Several Redskins Starters Out for Friday's Game vs Jets
Donovan McNabb is out and Shanahan said he probably wouldn't be able to go if it was regular season game. His boot is off, but he watched from the sidelines in an ankle wrap.
Mike Sellers is out with a sprained knee, but should be fine after that.
Malcolm Kelly is definitely out and Jason Reid reported that this does NOT mean he'll be cut. He still has a chance to prove his worth.
Kareem Moore is out 4-6 weeks after knee scope. Reed Doughty will start at FS but Chris Horton is competing for the spot.
Well, we'll get a good look at what the (potentially) 2010 Redskins will look like with Rex Grossman going up against a Jets defense. Where'd I put my blind-fold?

3rd game
when your really revving up for the season, your starting QB is out for the next two weeks, and the backup is known more for turnovers than his pocket presence with an o-line that is still trying to gel going against one of the best defenses in the league that will neatly segue into the Cardinals, whose defense is depleted but not totally inept right into Dallas.
Of all preseason games, these games are the most important. Not for the wins, but for the chemistry of everybody on the offense, and the centerpiece of the whole thing is out.

Sprain...
He’ll be fine…but this means he’ll likely sit next week too, which means Malcolm Kelly will get 0 game-time action with Malcolm Kelly.

Something like that? Or is it that?
Or you bet on the Redskins? Never bet on the Redskins…

New info on that, Kevin.
Seems I remember hearing information on 980 recently on the last ten games between the ‘girls and the Redskins. Apparently, they’ve gone 5 and 5 (which is news to me, perchance the stats were about home games at FedEx?). Also, the ’skins covered the spread 7 of the ten games. Interesting. Maybe bet on, not to win, but to cover?
I'll def be doing a gambling post...
Will keep that in mind as part of the research.

“Still sore,” coach Mike Shanahan said. “He’s walking on the treadmill. He won’t play in this game.”
If he’s walking on it he should be 100% by week 1…and I’m basing that on Freshman year biology, which I took 20 years ago and remember none of.

I didn't think trading a 2nd rounder for him could get any worse.

Since playing 16 games in 2003, McNabb has played one full season. We should know this is going to happen.
"You're fucking out!"
oh I agree
I’ve been harping on this with ya’ll since we got him.
I was just making the point that this situation could be worse.

give me the under
with 3 turnovers (2 INT and a fumble)
SpottieOttieDopaliscious
With Grossman playing against the Jets blitzing defense?
I think I’m gonna go with the under. I just have a hunch.
maybe I shoulda put it at 42.5
think I still like the under. Ok….31.5.

Against the Jets?
Still wouldn’t hesitate with the under.
And should he complete a couple and get that “I’m Going Deep” look in his eye, I’ll up my TO number.
SpottieOttieDopaliscious
was that a response to me?
we make a trade I personally think is a mistake, some people around here love it, and the dude might ALREADY be missing time.

Its alright I’ve just still yet to hear a positive thing out of you in like 2 years. But hey its just the way you roll…
Your obessession with my disposition is faltering and inaccurate.
Try harder.
"By far the worst performers on the team are in the front office." – Sally Jenkins
We could have drafted him
and he could have gotten injured. Same thing, except we have a seasoned veteran instead of a rookie.
Time flies like an arrow. Fruit flies like a banana.
Only Vinny Cerrato drafts rookies with injury risks as high as McNabb's
And a 2nd round pick would be making a fraction of the money McNabb will (assuming we ever resign him)
And we wouldn’t be spending all day every day building an offense around a rookie, like we have with McNabb. When McNabb doesn’t play, that’s a huge percentage of team practice that flies out the window. Not all of it, but a lot.
"By far the worst performers on the team are in the front office." – Sally Jenkins
For the record
Which one of these 2nd Round picks would you have taken over Donovan McNabb?
1 STL Saffold, Rodger, OT, Indiana
2 MIN Cook, Chris, CB, Virginia
3 TB Price, Brian, DT, UCLA
4 KC McCluster, Dexter, RB, Mississippi
5 PHI Allen, Nate, FS, South Florida
6 CLE Ward, T.J., FS, Oregon
7 TB Benn, Arrelious, WR, Illinois
8 MIA Misi, Koa, DE, Utah
9 BUF Troup, Torell, DT, UCF
10 NE Gronkowski, Rob, TE, Arizona
11 BAL Kindle, Sergio, DE, Texas
12 OAK Houston, Lamarr, DT, Texas
13 DEN Beadles, Zane, OT, Utah
14 NYG Joseph, Linval, DT, East Carolina
15 ARI Washington, Daryl, LB, TCU
16 CAR Clausen, Jimmy, QB, Notre Dame
17 SF Mays, Taylor, FS, Southern Cal
18 KC Arenas, Javier, CB, Alabama
19 MIN Gerhart, Toby, RB, Stanford
20 PIT Worilds, Jason, DE, Virginia Tech
21 NE Cunningham, Jermaine, DE, Florida
22 CIN Dunlap, Carlos, DE, Florida
23 DAL Lee, Sean, LB, Penn State
24 GB Neal, Mike, DT, Purdue
25 BAL Cody, Terrence, DT, Alabama
26 HOU Tate, Ben, RB, Auburn
27 CLE Hardesty, Montario, RB, Tennessee
28 SEA Tate, Golden, WR, Notre Dame
29 NYJ Ducasse, Vlad, OT, Massachusetts
30 NE Spikes, Brandon, LB, Florida
31 IND Angerer, Pat, LB, Iowa
32 NO Brown, Charles, OT, Southern Cal
What's your point?
"By far the worst performers on the team are in the front office." – Sally Jenkins
I'd simply like to know
what player you feel we missed out on by trading that 2nd Round pick for McNabb. It could also be anyone from the 3rd round, since we didn’t pick there either. Who should we have drafted with our 2nd pick (instead of trading for McNabb)?
You don't evaluate the McNabb trade on whether Player X turns out better
That’s hindsight and it doesn’t help.
You evaluate it on whether it’s better to add a 2nd rounder to the team, knowing you hit on X% of second rounders, or whether we’re better off with an extremely talented but injury prone 33 y.o. QB who will play at most 4 more years, probably more like 2-3 good ones.
"By far the worst performers on the team are in the front office." – Sally Jenkins
Ultimately
the only thing that matters is how these players, and by extension, the team turns out. That’s the measuring stick we’re all going to use to evaluate these moves. QB is the most important position in football. If McNabb plays here for the next 4 years, that just means we won’t have to reach for the next Clausen or Tebow or McCoy in 2011/2012. Instead, we can continue retooling the OL and other less critical positions.
Having McNabb doesn't mean we don't need to draft a QB
sooner rather than later.
Only a fool would count on 4 healthy years of McNabb
"By far the worst performers on the team are in the front office." – Sally Jenkins
Sooner rather than later
A little vague, but based on some of your other posts I assume you’re not implying that we HAVE to necessarily draft a QB next year (provided McNabb signs an extension). With McNabb, we know we have a QB who can play at an elite level with adequate protection. That wasn’t a sure thing with JC.
I would have taken
Nate Allen who was taken by the Eagles with the pick we gave up for DM. I also would have been happy with Jimmy Clausen or Terrance Cody. I think the trade for McNabb was the right move to make even tho I am a JC supporter but I can definitely understand smutsboy frustration
Or any of the OL prospects
"By far the worst performers on the team are in the front office." – Sally Jenkins
Or same thing
We have a rookie sitting on IR making one third the amount of the free-agent star sitting on IR. And don’t keep responding that Danny has the money, that money comes from us and when a chucklehead free agent sops a lot of it up, it leaves no money for depth. This has been the Redskins problem ever since Danny took over.

Anyone know who gets the start at FB this week ? i’m hoping to see more of Morris.
morris is listed at TE
it’s gonna be Young or the new guy

Even at TE...
I want to see Morris get some good playing time in…I like how this guy plays even though he hasnt been impressing in camp.
probably won't be this one though
with the starters playing most of the game I would think.

Reports haven't been favorable for Morris
So you probably won’t see much of him. Unless the coaching staff decide to give him one last chance.
c'mon, yer kidding
I SWEAR I read somewhere that Morris was gonna be a beast, supplant Chris Cooley’s, return kicks, play linebacker, solve the energy crisis, fix the economy, and lead the successful habitation of Saturn.

Not if, but when...
At least we answered the question. Hopefully its out of McNabb’s system now.
Anybody consider that...
Shanny doesn’t want to give Dallas ANYTHING, so he is taking crazy caution with McNabb? HHe is a 6 time pro bowler and has worked really hard. Plat it up and surprise the crap out of the cowmuffs. Rex is going to look like total shit and maybe dumbass wade might take us lighter. Just a thought.
