Redskins Get Moore Safety Help; Sign Tyrone Carter - Former Steeler
Update 2: Haslett says Doughty and Horton will compete at free safety. Newly-signed Tyrone Carter will play strong safety (via @RedskinsInsider). Obviously, he'll back up Landry at SS.
Update: LB Chris Draft was released.
The Redskins announced Reed Doughty will start at Free Safety versus the Jets with Kareem Moore going down, but that didn't stop them from adding 10-year veteran, and former Steeler, Tyrone Carter. Tyrone saw a lot of action with Polamalu's injury last year racking up an AFC Defensive Player of the Week Award with his 2 INT performance versus the Broncos. His familiarity with the 3-4 defense will help immensely. Tyrone is listed as 5'9, 195lbs and was an unrestricted free agent after last season. The Vikings drafted him in the 4th round of the 2000 draft out of Minnesota. This looks to be a good addition given his experience all things considered. I can't help but feel sorry for Kareem who again suffered an injury in pre-season despite making great progress.

haha, I’d rather throw Kordell Stewart in to our WR mix.

We could get ARE back as well!
Anyone else surprised Saturday when there was a fair catch? Yeah, me too.
Time flies like an arrow. Fruit flies like a banana.
Nice pickup
He should be able to assimilate our Steeler-esque defensive schemes rather quickly.
Doughty doesn’t have the speed to play FS.
I forgot to mention Kareem tweeted last night he was fasting
And couldn’t eat after midnight. Sounds like he had a procedure done this morning…which means it’s more than a MCL sprain. Shanahan addressing the media in 2 hours.

ignore this one
One of the beat writers said Kareem is fine and might still be back for Dallas.

I sure hope he's right
Moore’s been playing well, so it would be nice to have him ready to go against Dallas.
Carter and his wife April have six children, five sons, Tyrone, Jr. , Tyron , Tristan, the twins Tyshantay and Ty.
Thats not confusing. GET THIS MAN A CONTRACT, HE HAS KIDS WHO HAVE TO EAT.
And he evidentially
Couldn’t think of another name that started with “Ty” and so he just said “eff it” and called one of the twins Ty.
Apparently not a Star Trek fan
Wasn’t it James T. (Tiberius) Kirk? Not nearly enough “Tiberius’” running around out there. Let’s hope he has #6.
no, I’m not a trekky….. just happened to watch it once or a hundred times or so….
Now that, my friend, makes much more sense
The last one could have been named “T.” It’s perfect!
Carter and his wife messed up big time.
Carter is a great pick up
As long as he gets the system quickly, he will be perfect. Doughty and Horton are both SSs, and we need someone who can play FS. Carter (if I am correct), also replaced Ryan Clark in a game or two (who was Pitt’s FS). This guy can definitely play FS for us and be a legit FS. I love Doughty and Horton, but we need someone to give us that legit FS, and he can play it well. Really hope Moore gets better soon though, because he was looking great.

That is definitely true.

Wierd statline
2008-2009 was his most productive year in terms of interceptions, yet only 16 total tackles. Not sure what to make of that, or if it really matters, but it looks a little queer. By queer I mean odd.
they're linebacker corp
is a wall.

Hey Skins fans...
Any questions on Carter I can help with?
I’ll say this… Carter is one of the players Dick LeBeau really liked while in Pittsburgh. That said, he has some limitations that have kept him unemployed for this long. His knowledge of our system is accurate, and in your transition, I think he can definitely help with the pseudo coaching aspect. But on the field he lacks in a few areas. His angle of pursuit is sometimes spotty. He is undersized, and can be beaten by larger players downfield.
His play last year drew the ire of most of our fanbase. There is no replacing Troy (as you know with Sean Taylor, may he rest in peace) the greats are hard to replace.
Any questions ask away.
I bet a fun thing would be to go way back in time to where there was going to be an eclipse and tell the cave men, "If I have come to destroy you, may the sun be blotted out from the sky." Just then the eclipse would start, and they'd probably try to kill you or something, but then you could explain about the rotation of the moon and all, and everyone would get a good laugh.
They plan to use him as a backup Strong Safety
How’d he do in that role when Clark went down?

He played a majority of his SS snaps when Troy got hurt...
And he left a lot to be desired. Temper that with the reminder we’re used to one of the best in the game at his spot, so expectations are high.
His angle of pursuit can be spotty (See David Garrard’s run in the playoffs two seasons ago). His size restricts his matchups, and bigger player can pretty much do what they want with him. When he gets a read on a guy, he can still lay a hit, but more often than not, he’s not in a great spot when the time comes.
But for LeBeau to like him, he must be smart… real smart. And he’s not afraid to stick his nose in a pile. If you’re picking up a back up with knowledge, he’s a good fit for the role. If he plays opposite LaRon Landry, he may have a good sense of where to be, off of playing opposite Polamalu. His best role might be free safety, if you can limit the size of his coverage zone.
He’s gutsy, but limited pysically.

Thanks for the info
I think anyone asked to pick up after Troy is going to be perceived as disappointing. He should know the system and fit right in.
Time flies like an arrow. Fruit flies like a banana.
Yes sir, he can be a good role player...
And a good locker room guy, from all accounts.

The team has 10 linebackers now.
Jarmon was a LB earlier. Currently there are 5 ILB and 5 OLB. Jarmon might get moved back to OLB instead of getting cut as a DE. Some commentators think the team will keep 9 LBs. Curtis Gatewood is small for a OLB.

Sadly,
This cut will prevent great headlines like:
Redskins have high hopes in Draft
Draft disappoints Redskin fans
I really hope he never has to play
because he was god awful last year for the steelers.
how hard is it to find a free safety, really? i understand the steelers connection and assumption he will pick up our defense fast. but we dont need another strong safety. we already have three of them.
if they cant find a free safety, stick carlos rogers back there and start buchanon. our strong safeties can not cover and it does not sound like this guy can either.

i don't like carter -
the last i remember him – he played great when polamalu was out – i think it was a MNF game
and then the next week – he talked a lot of trash about Tom Brady and the pats – and he got smoked over his head.. and got benched the rest of the way
serves him right
I think you're a little confused
That was Anthony Smith talking shit about the Patriots, two years ago. Carter filled in for Anthony Smith later that year and then filled in for Polamalu last year.
ahhh yesss
thank you for cleaning up my mess lol
he was the guy vs Denver on MNF who came in off the bench at safety and had a few int’s and made some big plays
but yes that was anthony smith that got toasted
my apologies to tyrone carter and his supporters -
