Redskins Release Colt Brennan

The Redskins have released quarterback Colt Brennan, the team announced on Monday.

Brennan’s release comes on the heels of the Redskins’ acquisition of quarterback John Beck from the Baltimore Ravens.

After a record-setting college career at Hawaii, the Redskins drafted Brennan in the sixth round of the 2008 NFL draft. Brennan become among the team's most popular players after  an impressive preseason that year but never got into a regular-season game.

How do you feel about Colt Brennan release???? Is John Beck better than Breannan???????

WHAT A SHAME

Its a shame that they never gave colt a chance to at least play this pre season i think it was a big mistake on washingtons part by letting this kid go , he might not start as the starting QB on another team but i bet you he will sooner or later be a starting QB somewhere i wish colt the best of luck i think he will be a fine QB somewhere and whoever gets him will be a very lucky team .

Ehhh

Colt had a stellar preseason as a rookie, then fizzled out. Injury problems, and not performing got him the boot. It’s a shame, because I was really rooting for this guy, but it’s obvious he isn’t going to develop into a starting quarterback, and 2nd quarterback not even. He always seemed like a class act, so I hope he can find a spot somewhere.

Zorn ruined Colt

Jim Zorn ruined Colt by trying to change his throwing motion. This led to injuries and weakened his arm. He never recovered from Zorn’s meddling. Let’s hope that the idiot didn’t manage to ruin Beck.

Colt's play also ruined Colt

Colt

The reports from camp (on HH) suggested that, for whatever reason, he was not playing well – weak arm strength, underthrowing, misses, so I can’t argue on cutting him, and it also bodes ill for him getting picked up by somebody else – he just isn’t good enough. In an earlier interview he didn’t sound very confident, either. I can’t feel too bad for a guy who got paid over a million dollars for three fun years. He had his shot. Still, for a while there…

Zorn ruined Colt?

haha that’s ridiculous. Absolutely ridiculous.

Changing his natural throwing motion

Like changing a batter’s stance in baseball. Can backfire, screw up your rhythm. Just a thought, wouldn’t bet my life on it.

Actually…I think that Georgia ruined Colt during that Sugar Bowl beat-down they gave him. He wasn’t the same. He seemed scared and quick to panic ever since that. He’s done as a QB.

Colt

Could be. That, a string of injuries and operations, changing his throwing motion, all could be reasons. It could be that he didn’t work hard enough to improve, partly because he just didn’t analyze himself well enough (e.g., at the end, he thought he had a “good practice” – no idea he wasn’t doing well). Whatever happened, he wasn’t throwing well and is probably done in the NFL, although maybe a new situation could turn things around.

watch this scenerio

McNabb will opt not to sign with us because he will see his big and only chance and sign with minnesota after 1 season with the redskins and just like like jason taylor did to us we get screwed of another draft pick again i can see this coming a mile away , we should have just kept colt brennan and give that kid a chance but mark my words McNabb is just a 1 year deal and we lose a draft in the process.

+1

But only in regards to McNabb. For whatever reason it was obvious Colt wasn’t going to even make a number two quarterback….. his situation reminds me a lot of Babe Laufenberg’s. this town has always loved its third string and four string quarterbacks, and has always hated the starter.
Hell I remember hearing the crowds at RFK calling for J. Schrader after Theismann had already won us a Super Bowl… Well we got what we wanted, thanks to Lawrence Taylor.

not buying it.....

minnesotas window is closing fast…and one full year behind Tavaris isn’t going to help….if we manage to finish 9-7 and they come out 8-8 do you think they will still look as attractive?

by MagicHat on Aug 3, 2010 3:42 PM EDT up reply actions

Yeah

Because they were a win away from the super bowl WITH Favre, and they have great young, offensive talent like Percy Harvin, Sidney Rice, and Adrian Peterson.

Their window is closing fast? How do you figure?

well watch in see

see minnasota will have to go with tarvaris for 1 year if favre is gone and that leaves a perfect oppertunity for McNabb to go sign with him like he wanted in the first place and then we end up looking stupid again for trading a pick away , if McNabb was going to stay with us we would have signed him to another contract already so who do they think they are foolin either he goes to minnasota or he will go back to the eagles either way i think we are screwed watch in see.

I dont think that it will ruin next years draft.

I think that you are not giving Shanahan and Allen any credit for making this team 10 times better then last years team. We got rid of a lot of player that were considered dead weight (that is evident because all the players that we cut are not with another team expect for Rock.)

If McNabb leaves then he leaves but that is something that we can worry about later. All I am focused on is seeing this team develop one day at a time.

A number of the guys cut were picked up by other teams

Mainly – Antwaan-el, by Pittsburgh. Ganther by Seattle. And I think a couple of others. But not (as far as I know) Collins, Griffin, Smoot or Betts.

by Donnio1234 on Aug 5, 2010 10:09 PM EDT up reply actions

Good call on ARE. I forgot that.

Ganther was picked up by seattle, that is a little suprising. Another person that I did not hear about is Randy Thomas.

From the Redskins' site

“For coaches, it may have been hard to evaluate the third- and fourth-team receivers — guys like Bobby Wade, Mike Furrey, Shay Hodge and Brandon Banks — because many of Brennan’s passes were poorly thrown.”

The one year lay off did a number on Brennan.

by Jefferson1935 on Aug 3, 2010 9:22 PM EDT reply actions

Wade

I just noticed they put Wade as a third or fourth stringer. I thought he was a bit higher than that. He has had some decent years.

Colt Brennan is now a Raider

The Oakland Raiders just signed Colt to a 1 year contract where he will ironically be backing up Jason Campbell once again.
