Red Snapper

So is there 0% chance that Shanahan will bring him in for a tryout?

yea

Although Albright is 39 and coming off back surgery. The new guy, Dearth, supposedly had a bad snap already today. As inconsistent as Sundberg has been in camp, he said he’s never had a bad snap in a game since high school.

Albright

The concern with back surgery I can understand. But does age really make much of a difference when it comes to long snappers? It seems like they should at least bring Albright in to compete, especially considering how consistent he’s always been. I don’t remember him ever having a bad snap, at least not off the top of my head.

This is one of those situations

where you want to have the loyalty factor kick in. I don’t think Shanny realizes how good the RS has been for years now.

You would think that

Danny Smith would say something to Shanahan about Albright’s consistency. Unless there’s something Danny knows that we don’t.

by bigrm18 on Aug 16, 2010 10:32 AM EDT up reply actions

One would think so

Maybe his back condition was based on a serious deterioration issue or maybe he just wants to stay retired….hmmm

Actually, he still wants to play.

After last season, Washington did not attempt to re-sign Albright, a 15-year veteran who was with the Redskins the past nine seasons. Albright, 39, hopes to continue his career, and his “bag is packed when a call comes,” he wrote in a text message to a reporter recently. “I think I can still help someone win some games. Obviously, I enjoyed playing for [special teams coordinator] Danny Smith and would love to play another season or two for him.”

Wow...

Don’t know what’s going on there. Maybe he PO’d Shanny in a previous life…?

Plus the NFL added that rule that you can’t line up directly against the LS…you have to be outside of their shoulders. Albright could play til he’s 60.

The saints lost Lynell Hamilton

Their 3rd string running back, and are looking for a replacement with game experience. Anyone think they’d want Willie Parker or is he too similar to Reggie Bush?

Luck can only last so long

The training program and our competent staff will be here for a while if they’re the main reasons why our team is so healthy and in shape.

by bigrm18 on Aug 16, 2010 10:45 AM EDT up reply actions

Yep. The Skins have not had full contact drills yet where they hit below the waist

They didn’t even have a scrimmage against another NFL team as they had done in the past. Seems to keep the injuries down, but the tackling was poor in the game on Sat. It should get better as we get closer to the start of the season.

by liger99 on Aug 16, 2010 4:56 PM EDT up reply actions

We'll see how lucky we truly are

During the regular season. Of course, that’s when injuries to players will truly make an impact on a team. Especially a team that doesn’t have much depth…

by bigrm18 on Aug 16, 2010 10:22 AM EDT reply actions

Based on the rookie play

and how well Heyer did in place of J-Brown, I think we are looking deeper than we previously thought. Between Banks, Armstrong and Riley, we have rookies stepping up and fitting into our schemes, both Torrain and K-Williams (2-TDs) looked more than serviceable as compared to previous thinking about an aging threesome by committee. Hensen had a sack, etc. Granted, it was the Bills, but I’m feeling better about this team every day.

by Scott E on Aug 16, 2010 10:27 AM EDT up reply actions

True

I never thought we were as bad depth-wise as a lot of people appeared to think. But I’d still have to see them consistently perform well against better quality teams before I truly become confident with our depth. I’m cautiously optimistic and am taking sips of the Kool-Aid right now. After a while, I’ll be chugging it down if our team consistently performs well.

by bigrm18 on Aug 16, 2010 10:42 AM EDT up reply actions

Next Saturday

will either be totally euphoric or quite sobering both offensively and defensively, because the Ravens are looking excellent. It will be a good game to gauge just how far we’ve come. I have to say, though, there were an awful lot of pluses that came out of Friday’s game for me.

Time flies like an arrow. Fruit flies like a banana.

by Scott E on Aug 16, 2010 10:58 AM EDT up reply actions

Definitely

Playing against the Ravens will give us a much better indication of our team’s ability. I’ve never been this amped up about preseason games before.

by bigrm18 on Aug 16, 2010 11:05 AM EDT up reply actions

I can't tell you how psyched I was

to see a RB run thru a HOLE (OMG!) and have our QB’s stand up and throw. Oh, and throw and make completions (I counted at least 6) of 20 yds or more. I also felt like 3 and 9 was downhill sledding vs looking up at Mt. Everest like the past few years.

Keim's report - on depth

Keim analyzed the game in detail. He gave very low marks to Rinehart, Oldenburg, Robinson and Montgomery, and a less than glowing comment on Hicks. Also the NTs. Sort of surprising, but sort of cools my enthusiasm about our O-line depth, despite a decent performance from higher. Just one game and one man’s opinion, but…

I sort of feel the same way

my mind automatically puts a disclaimer on this win with “It was just the bills,” but it was nice to see some individual accomplishments.

by Rekka on Aug 16, 2010 11:31 AM EDT up reply actions

I read Keim all the time

So I saw his analysis. And that’s why I’m not jumping for joy with the win. Keim pointed out things about some players that I wasn’t personally able to see. I’ll try to watch certain players more intently against the Ravens.

by bigrm18 on Aug 16, 2010 11:34 AM EDT up reply actions

Yes, but just being able to say

Heyer did well (plus Shanny’s positive comments about him) make me feel a lot better. I wonder if he will challenge Brown at RT? Just knowing we are solid at LT and RT and good at Center is way better than where I thought we were at going into the game.

I’m not worried about the DLine as AH is manning up to NT and Keamotu will (hopefully) regain form once he’s in game shape. On the super plus side, I think Perry Riley may be starting for us (or at least seeing game time in packages) at LB. Makes me wonder if we should trade Carter for a draft pick….?

You add in that both Williams and Torrain looked more than serviceable and we can say we are much better than I thought at RB. Finally, we have a PR guy who can take it to the house. I know it’s the Bills, but we looked far better than I expected for a 1st pre-season game when you consider we have all new systems on the O and D sides of the ball. Pass me some more of that Kool-aid, bartender!

I'd skip the scotch in the Kool-Aid Scott haha
I wonder if he will challenge Brown at RT?

It was nice to see, but let’s see him do it again against baltimore first.

Well,

yes. Baltimore will be a much more accurate test of his progress, and I may feel differently next Sunday – the scotch in the Kool-aid hangover – I hope not!

BTW – I have two ticks to the Ravens game if you are interested. Saw my friends last night and they don’t want but a nominal sum for them. Are you interested?

Agree, looking pretty good

By the way – Keim also had less-than-glowing comments on Rabach and his understudy Lichtensteiger. I think he had good words for Edwin Williams. On NT, it may not be real important because Haslett is using so many combinations that don’t necessarily even use a nose tackle. Great!

Titans RB Stafon Johnson

Also reportedly dislocated his ankle and will be done for the season. He is hardly an impact on them, but it is such a shame that a guy who fought so hard to make it is only going to be shorted by another injury.
