Haynesworth to start camp on second string team

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/09000d5d8195917d/article/haynesworth-softens-stance-dt-wont-practice-with-first-team?module=HP_headlines

according to the accociated press, even if Haynesworth passes his conditioning test and is ready to go tommorrow, he'll likely start with the second team...

All I can say is this will be a rude awakening for our second string O'line, hope Cook/Lichtenstieger/montgomery are ready for that.

I don't see this as a big deal I think Shanahan just doesn't wanna slow down the guys that  were here and are ready to go. He'll likely move up within a day or two if he tries and masters the verbiage quickly. what do you all think, how long will he practice with the second string?

Yeah. And I would keep him there until his teammates want him back with the starters.

shan is a great coach and he knows the key is chemistry and the locker room

he ent starten till a couple of reg season games….thats how u build a TEAM…

play him erlier then that, it will not be a punishment and the locker room will be filled with resentment…shan ent zorn…that will not fly

How is that the way to build a team?

If you leverage the team’s ability to win actual games because of some beef you have with a player, you will quickly lose guys’ respect. Multiple players have already said that if he shows up and is doing the right things, it will all quickly be forgotten. This isn’t the first holdout/standoff that the NFL has ever seen, and it won’t be the last. To stretch out his “punishment” for up to two months would be a stupid move by Shanahan. Players don’t want to play under a guy who will hold a grudge. They respect a guy who punishes those who screw up. They don’t respect a guy who hurts their chances of winning in September over something that happened in June.

Shanahan is going to push him.

Shanahan is going to make haynesworth get in to game shape and once he is then everything will be back to normal, for the most part. He will also make Al study the playbook from early morning to late at night so that he can catch up with the team.

by Ratek on Jul 30, 2010 8:38 AM EDT up reply actions

His teammates will want him back immediately, if he arrives in as good condition as he says he is…and if he has the attitude he had two years ago.

If that is when they want him back than sure why not. Just saying it should be up to them.

Amazing

But that’s probably the best way for him to learn the system. Start easy.

by Donnio1234 on Jul 28, 2010 3:09 PM EDT reply actions

Right

Shanny is doing the Right Thing
Its the best Way to help make him…. truely Unstoppable An in shape AH is on his way to historic recognition …and the Skins can go along for the ride
I just hope that there is an Understanding.betheen AH and MS…AND that they are both able to disagree / agree
I hope that MS is able to motivate AH to higher Goals /Aspirations
Go Skins

Haha. That's excellent.

I hope Shanny makes him spend a week there, but probably not

I like this part of the article the best
According to The Post, Kemoeatu should be fully recovered from the Achilles’ injury that cost him all of last season in time for Week 1.

by SSBlitz on Jul 28, 2010 3:47 PM EDT reply actions

I don’t… That doesn’t sound too promising

by travisjh86 on Jul 28, 2010 4:20 PM EDT up reply actions

Same...

Vonnie Holiday gave a pretty ambiguous answer when asked if Kemo was still limping last week, which was pretty surprising cuz limping is nowhere near football shape. It seems like his recovery is taking a little longer than expected, I wouldn’t be surprised if it runs into the season.

Bored and broke.

by ThaRak on Jul 29, 2010 4:59 AM EDT up reply actions

I have also heard..

That Kemo has been running a lot of 2 a days during this offseason per Larry Michael.
We will have to wait and see what the verdict is when he plays in the preseason.

by Ratek on Jul 29, 2010 8:18 AM EDT up reply actions

Here's another source that sounds very promising

From insider:

Because of the favorable reports on Kemoeatu, many in the organization believe that barring injury, the former Carolina Panther standout will start at the nose tackle position in the season opener Sept. 12 against the Dallas Cowboys at FedEx Field.

Sounds to me like having Kemeoatu start Week 1 is Plan A for the Skins. If the team expects him to be ready by then, I’ve got no reason (yet) to disagree.

Ideal

That would be GR8

Kemoeatu

I didn’t see that part of the article, but it would be good news if he was healthy. Every report I read said he was still "90%‘, and Vonnie Holliday seemed rather negative on him – both enough to be causes for concern. If he plays NT, AH won’t have to, and everybody will be happy.
On AH, I liked Shanahan’s comment, but there was some needless anti-Haynesworth stuff in it which calls into doubt the writers objectivity.

Do you Think

That MS is showing ALL that this is going to be a TEAM , and potentially a pretty darn good TEAM. Therefore AH do what must be done (conditionally) in order to play ANY position.
Can one imagine this TEAM being in Superior Conditioning, esp. AH ?

Forget

By Allowing AH to process the possibility that if he does not comply, that he will not be 1st TEAM and will NOT B Traded this Season..is that right and will it have a positive or negative impact on the TEAM.
Without question a Smart, well conditioned AH is Whew!!

1 or 2 weeks.

Prove he’s replaceable, help him learn the system, and help look at O-line depth. If he realizes the world won’t end for the ’skins without him it might help his attitude.

Its a fine line...

Apparently his meeting with Shanny went well, but as Coach said “It’s real easy to talk the talk”. If he is in shape and shows up positive and ready to work and contribute wherever they put him, move him up after a week (also depending on the interaction with the other players). Leaving on the second unit too long just as “punishment” could turn out to be counter-productive if he gets frustrated and starts doing damage to the team. 1-2 days is not enough, and I don’t see Shanny relenting that easily.

by MagicHat on Jul 29, 2010 9:34 AM EDT reply actions

AH on second team

Right – a week or so is fine, to get him up to speed. But anything more than that, and anything done as punishment, could be very counterproductive – in fact, disastrous, if it really turned him off. Mike and Jim should not “diss” him in any way. Ideally, Albert would look at Haslett as his friend, mentor and ally (protecting him from the hard nosed boss). Whatever, we want him happy, confident and an enthusiastic member of the team.

by Donnio1234 on Jul 29, 2010 11:20 AM EDT reply actions

Agreed

Insisting on some humility is a nice thing, but trying to make him into a pariah will only piss him off more and possibly lose you the respect of other veterans who understand that issues sometimes happen but need to be moved on from as quickly as possible.

Futhermore, Shanahan and anyone else with football background knows

the real football conditioning includes putting on the pads and having contact. For players like Jammal Brown who have missed the better part of a season it is necessary to knock off the rust.

I think fat albert should set his entire contract in my opinion

But i also say if you allow him back in the game with the other guys who has worked so hard without this clown it will bring down the coaches credibility the team will lose respect for shanny i would allow all the teammates be the one to give the approval to let this cancer back on the team and if they dont want to play with this idiot then he sets all year , but this should be a team decission rather to allow him back or not that way the coaches will show our team that this is a group matter and that we play as a team and win as a team not a me me me me team and the coaches win and the team wins and everyone shows everyone the same kind of respect .

by washingtonwin on Jul 29, 2010 12:49 PM EDT reply actions

Let the team decide on AH?

You gotta be kidding. No coach in his right mind would just “punt” on a decision like that. It’s not a group matter. The coach says who plays, the coach is the boss. As far as I can tell (and there is a lot of disinformation flying around), Shanahan is playing things just right. E.g., “He has to show us what he can do”. Not mad, not grateful or thrilled or happy, just, “go out and play”, show us you deserve to start..

by Donnio1234 on Jul 29, 2010 4:01 PM EDT up reply actions

know look at what the coach is doing

I agree with shanny on fat albert dog his ass and dog him good make him wish or make him want to give back EVERY PENNY HE STOLE then kick his ASS off the team .

by washingtonwin on Jul 29, 2010 6:09 PM EDT up reply actions

I am sure we all have bosses that preach the team concept....

I did restaurant work for years back in the day, team concept is a necessity and we would hear about it constantly…..I have absolutely no recollections of any boss calling a staff meeting to ask us what we thought was best…..and for good reason.
