Haynesworth Now "Happy"?

ESPN is reporting that Albert Haynesworth is now excited about the upcoming season (And even playing some NT) . Is anyone actually buying this? We all recognize his ability when his mind is right, will he be able to honor his contract despite position or will he be a cancer all season? I hope he comes in and dominates, the team gets off to a good start and by week 2 its water under the bridge. What are your opinions is he a "Changed Man"?

I'm ready to give him a second chance...

but if he blows this chance, he’s done. He really hasn’t done much to win over the fans, but it seems like everybody is excited that he’ll be on the team and at least SAYS he’ll be cooperative. He will improve the defense so much, it is hard not to embrace Fat Al and welcome him back.

A lot of people have bought the negative stuff spewed by the bloggers this offseason, so why not buy the positive stuff as well. There’s about the same amount of basis for believing either.

Very well said.

I never believed he was as unhappy as people said.

His performance, dedication and effort this year will tell me what I need to know.

There was another Washington Post article today on Haynesworth.

Apparently the Haslett meeting in January was not to either Haynesworth’s or Haslett’s liking. Then Shanahan also has some standards that aren’t to flexible. The media certainly did not help matters. We may never know what the facts are. Most on HH were not that satisfied with last seasons DC calls either, so they were/are in agreement with Haynesworth on that issue.

I think Chris Cooley has it right on Haynesworth, yet it may be forgiven but not forgotten with the team and fans.

I agree

If he is here tomorrow and he is in shape then all is well. I think that he will be more productive in this D now than last year.

As long as the rest of the team is OK with him then I can careless what he did.

AH is a dumb@ss - remember, he did not show up for mini-camp.

Redskin Insider also had a couple articles on this that sound like AH is saying the right things given the present situation, but I believed the negative hype only once he failed to show up. I thought it was likely before that given the lack of flowing prose on AH coming from the Redskin leadership during the latter part of the off-season as well.

Of course, he wouldn’t have to be saying those things had he had the conversations with Shanahan / Haslett in March instead of July. I’m not surprised that he’s actually gotten himself in shape, but that’s likely mainly because he was aiming to get traded.

i agree with the very last line – AH realized that his public spat and portrayed attitude have sunk most of his value (combined with that massive bonus he renegged on). He realized that he’s regulated to ‘skins so had no choice left but to play choir boy. He comes to camp, says all the right things, shows up in shape, etc, and his image is boosted enough where another team just might bite (either via trade or when he’s a FA down the line). Look what the league did with TO this year and last – AH doesnt want the same future.

Jason Reid (Redskin Insider) article

Reinforces the idea that Haslett first told him he’d be playing a lot of positions, then Shanahan dumped the NT on him. Sort of “good cop, bad cop”. But I hadn’t heard that the Haslett meeting went badly (he was, after all, the “good cop”). That could be why AH got mad – thought Haslett misled him (after talking with Mike). Maybe he now realizes Haslett was being straight with him. AH may have read the articles about ex-NTs (although I didn’t think they were very encouraging) and talked to Redskin players, and realized he might like the 3-4. I always thought that his reluctance to play the 3-4 and NT was more fear and lack of confidence, rather than arrogance or concern for his stats. He basically wasn’t sure he could do well in that scheme. On attitude, he may just be smart enough to know that he has hurt his reputation badly and has to play well to regain his eminence as a D-lineman, and thus make the Pro Bowl and make more money – so may actually be pretty “hyped”.

Another online article said that

Haslett and Haynesworth had been texting over a period of time. All was not silent since April.

AH - Sounds good

Haslett sounded pretty cool and confident in the small bit(s) we heard of today’s interview – suggesting AH would like the defense when he got into it. That’s really interesting that they’ve been texting. I’d like to hear from Albert himself, too.

IT DOES NOT MATTER

If you get paid this type of MONEY like fat albert got he should be digging a ditch if he was asked 2 no matter what im sorry people might forgive this idiot but when you treat your team mates like fat albert did i say make him sit on the bench no matter what even if it makes us go 0-16 he is a traitor to our team and team mates , you are suppose to have your friends back not stabbing them in the back .

This is too simplistic

not just U washintonwin, but this whole “if u get that much money” attitude from everyone.

Lets be clear, Big Al was not going to be out of work if the SKins did not offer him that money, he could have got very close to it from a number of teams, he had the position of power here.

Yeah you and I may be prepared to shovel sh*t for 100 mil, personally I’d shovel shit on my hands and knees for 10 hours a day for 100 million, but that is because I have no bargaining power.

Haynesworth is elite at what he does, at the time he signed he put was offered certain guarantees that we will never know for sure what they were. Now you can say he is naive for beleiving them, u can say he shoudl understand the NFL and realise the deals could change etc.

But the facts are unlike me and you, he has the choice because he has an elite skill and he is entitled to push forward on his options, he did not breach his contract, Snyder agreed to pay the 21 million early on and consequently Haynesworth has the postion of power in the negotiation. No one cares what you or I would do for 100 million, there are plenty of ppl who would like Big Al to come work for them tomorrow however

Wash - you seem to take it all so personally

You’re willing to hurt the team badly just to make Albert suffer? Why? Why not let Shanahan and Haslett handle him?

by Donnio1234 on Jul 28, 2010 3:14 PM EDT reply actions

ITS ALL ABOUT WATCHING YOUR GUYS BACK

Well i do know sometimes i get carried away with things but when you are on a team you are suppose to watch each others back not stab each other in the back , and as far as i am concerned fat albert has shown his team whos back he has and its not his teammates as far as im concerned when a guy hurts his team with all these distractions like fat albert has done and on top of it when he stomped on that players head in that dallas game even though i hate dallas that was pure wrong , and like i said fat albert is nothin but a cancer on this team he stole 21 million and do you think he is really going to work hard after getting that much money up front ? i doubt it very much , why do you think fat albert got away with not coming in for the mandatory practice because he knew he could get away with it hmmm? wow he payed only $10,000 thousand dollor fine out of 21million hmmm not much of a dent in recouping ehhh , but anyway i just think this guy has some balls in asking for a trade after taking 21 million dollors earlier this year and plus the only reason fat albert got in some shape was because he thought he pissed off the owner and coaches enough that he thought he was going to be able to be traded and he wanted to look good for another team thats the only reason he lost weight not for our team but for another team .

The $21 million

The Skins could have cut him, or traded him cheap, but they chose to pay the money.

by Donnio1234 on Jul 29, 2010 4:04 PM EDT up reply actions

HE ACCEPTED IT ALSO RIGHT

So that being said he should be scrubbing toilets if asked 2 for that kind of money , he was told if he accepts the money he was going to be on time for camp and drills and to act right not like a cry baby , he was givin a chance to turn the money down but instead he decided to take it so if you look at it he lied and stole the money .

by washingtonwin on Jul 29, 2010 6:03 PM EDT up reply actions

again washington

he did not lie or steal, he merely exercised his contractual rights.

It appears that if anyone lied in this negotiation it was the Skins and in particular Snyder who promised him he would play in a 4-3 for the duration of his contract.

None of us know the whole story - so we judge

Both the Redskins organization and Haynesworth both equally responsible for the media circus they created.

Should have hashed out their differences and never allowed the media and public the opportunity to pass judgement on a private situation in which all the facts are not divulged.

If you leave it to the fans to judge the situation, then nobody comes out a winner.

Being a good citizen makes you more tradable

This is very simple.

The redskins will continue to try to trade AH.

If they haven’t managed to when the season starts, he will be silent if we win and he will be worse than ever if we lose.

by sofutomygaha on Jul 28, 2010 3:58 PM EDT reply actions

AH

Might learn to really like the defense and situation here, and forget about leaving – particularly if we do well, and maybe even if we just do better, but seem to be on the right track. I.e., he could just “see the light”. But no guarantees – he’s pretty hard to read.

by Donnio1234 on Jul 28, 2010 4:31 PM EDT reply actions

Yep. I still think success for him and our D is entirely possible
