Redskins Need to Cut 2 Players Before Camp
Rich Campbell just highlighted an interesting point:
With Trent Williams and Carlos Rogers still unsigned, Redskins still must release 2 players to make room for them on the 80-man camp roster.
Shall we take some guesses? Usually in professions with cuts, last one in is the first one out, so Ramzee Robinson (CB) would fall into that bucket. Given the fragility of both lines, I don't see any linemen getting cut.
The Redskins are carrying 6 RBs, the most likely to be snipped Darryl Young, the 1-year back out of Villanova..although I don't see this happening.
The Skins have a nice balance of 6 safeties, but very solid talent at the top, which probably makes rookie UFA hopeful, Russell Anderson, a little nervous.
There are currently 11 WRs on the team. Shanahan obviously isn't happy with his depth right now, so cutting a WR seems less than likely, but Shay Hodge is a player that seems a candidate.
Full, current roster after the jump...who you got? My guess is Robinson and Anderson.

I can agree with one of your cuts.
Darrel Young was a linebacker and safety in college and was picked up as a UDFA, LB, in 2009. His lack of RB or FB experience would seem to make him an easy cut.
Shay Hodge will get his chance to prove himself in training camp. While he did not have the best 40 yard time, he may have other intangibles that convert on the playing field. “In four years at Mississippi, Shay Hodge became the all-time leading receiver in school history with 2,646 receiving yards. Hodge’s 173 career catches and 22 receiving touchdowns are second in Rebels history, while his six 100-yard receiving games are tied for second. Hodge earned first-team All-SEC honors last year after catching 70 passes for 1,135 yards and a team-high eight touchdown grabs.”
Lee Vickers, TE, has been around for a few years and the depth at TE is good without him. Paulsen (UCLA) will get his chance in training camp and may end up on the practice squad. He was known as one of the better blocking TE in college last season. His age is an advantage vs. Vickers. Vickers is my second cut.
I agree Jeff
Shay Hodge impressed me in college. He would have been drafted if it weren’t for his poor forty time(which iin some part was due to a nagging toe injury from the season)
Don't ever let failure get you down. Remember, a very successful major league hitter failes 70% of the time.
You're still listing Mike Williams...
who’ll be on IR from the get go. So does that mean only one cut now?
Mike said he can run and
lift weights but can’t have contact. The limitations on him have probably been placed by a doctor. Maybe there is an outside chance that he could play by September.

considering Jason Reid broke the story
there has to be a chance Williams plays against Dallas opening week
What has Reid been factually incorrect about in the past?

Cuts
Sounds reasonable. How about Darrion Scott? Seems small for a DE, some personal history. Do they cut some guys early as a favor, so they can hook up with another team?
I say Anderson Russell stays, Russell Anderson on the other hand is gone(LOL)
My guess is Lee Vickers and Daryll Young.

Anderson Russell
If he stays, we’ve got a problem – we’ll never know what his proper name is. And I just figured out Tryon, not Tyron. Who is Nick Sundberg, listed as a “LS”?
Sundberg
Oh, yes – thanks. Never thought about it, but can’t one of the regular centers serve as long snapper? As long as they had Albright, no sweat, but to bring in a LS? Do all teams have a long snapper? Just curious.
Ramzee Robinson
I posed this question to Robert Henson tonight and he had never heard of Ramzee. Classic. He wasnt aware of the cuts.
Good point up top. Should be 1 cut. But Mike Williams sais he hopes to make it back this year. Coaches need to make a call on that

Who says well have Carlos Rodgers?
I think there is still a possibility we make a trade. I hear we need a new ball boy, one who won’t drop the ball.
Carlos
IMHO, unthinkable to lose him. I can’t understand why they won’t extend his contract, but he should sign anyway – can’t see why he’d want to leave.
Cuts before camp starts.
Mike Williams will go on IR, leaving 1 cut. 11 WR’s is too many for camp. I think 1 goes. Probably R. Williams.
BMW
Maybe he’ll be back. I thought there were ways to treat bloodclots. But he can’t risk his life. Roydell came close last year and has a decent history – I’d think he’s ahead of a few of the older guys. But maybe he’s just not good enough. I thought Joey had heard that the Skins actually cut two players already, but cannot find any story on that, and it’s not on HH, who usually get it fast. On the 53 man roster, the battle for WR is really interesting.
It will be in August before you
will have a better idea of who will be the WRs on the 53 man roster. In the mean time you can just speculate.

R. Williams
He hasn’t played in 2 years. I can’t understand why we signed him in the 1st place.
Cut a WR and a "Williams"
Any WR with a number in the teens, that sh!t annoys me. Pick a # from the 80s! jack@ss!!
And we seem to have an abundance of “Williams” on the roster, cut one of them, too.
Can we cut ARE again? That felt sooo good.
"pick a number from the 80's?" really?
I would love a WR who wore 42 because he wanted to emulate Charley Taylor or 25 for Belitnikoff….the number on the jersey doesn’t ,matter….the numbers on the field do.
Taylor was originally an RB,
but he did so well in receiving that he became a WR. Hence the 42 number. He also made a lot of yards after the catch.

the teens
Wade and three fast, promising rookies – I’d sort of like to keep a couple of them. By the way, one Williams is (probably) gone already – unfortunately. Of course, names and numbers are vitally important in building a team. Not!
