10 Out of 16 games Trent Williams Will Face 2x+ Pro Bowl Defensive Ends

As announced previously in this space, XFINITY from Comcast has generously agreed to support the best NFL community around -- us! As part of that effort, between now and the end of the 2010 NFL season XFINITY will be sponsoring a variety of special editorial and interactive features on our site.

Well, the title says it all. This season the former Oklahoma Sooner will face two 5x Pro Bowlers, one 4x Pro Bowler, two 3x Pro Bowlers, and three 2x Pro Bowlers. Trial by fire? Oh yea. Look at that three game stretch before the BYE: Freeney, Peppers, and Vanden Bosch. Dear Lord. One thing that should help Trent is McNabb has the uncanny ability to wiggle his way out of collapsed pockets. It's safe to say Clinton will be in quite a few situations where he's chipping as well.

Levi Jones, who started at LT for the Redskins half way through the year, got tore up by the competition giving up 6 sacks, 14 QB pressures, and 18 QB hits in 9 games. Reload.

Sorry to rain on the O'Halloran bashing parade

His list is actually not too shabby as I look at it. After all, it is June.

Looks like there is a good chance

we’ll win the off-season and the BYE week. Sheesh! Let’s hope that we see the reverse of last year where we played down to the level of our competition. Good news is other teams in the Div have to face many of the same teams. We will find out if the East is Beast in a hurry.

OUCH!

Looks like young Mr. Williams will be asked to earn every penny of his rookie contract…and then some!

well I am sure he is fully aware of this too

all the more incentive for him to come in and bust hump in TC

Damn

I mean, aside from Tampa Bay and Green Bay, Trent is gonna have top competition, regardless of pro bowls. I kinda, now that I look at it, would like to see Brown play LT, at least for this year. That schedule is unbelievable. Still, I think Trent will be mostly ready, I am just concerned about some of the truly elite guys there: Ware, Williams, Cole, Freeney, Peppers, Allen. Those guys easily are in the NFL’s top 10 pass rushers alone. Regardless, what will be good is Trent will get experience against Orakpo and Carter, and his week 1 game against Dallas, he will be able to learn a lot after going against the, arguably, best 3-4 OLB in the game.

yeah, right.

As if the Redskins are going to drop back and pass on every down. The Shanaplan will be to run the ball at those rush-happy ends until they’re worn down a bit. Then we’ll see how well they do against Trent Williams.

If Osi Umenyiora is starting by week 13

then the number goes up to 12 (Osi = 2x Pro Bowler too).

If not, Kiwanuka is still a handful.

by SSBlitz on Jun 28, 2010 2:48 PM EDT reply actions

Kiwanuka might very well be a very good ball player....

but after running that gauntlet it should feel like a scrimmage. I am just happy we don’t play the Giants until late in the season. From Zorn’s debut, the moment Strahan busted out with the trophy in his hand I knew it wasn’t going to be good, and they have physically dominated us, more than any team in the division ever since. I see the Giants crumbling by week 10 at the latest, we should get both wins this year.

I got a little giddy when I read this until I realized… Wait, our LT has to face all these guys, too.

Formerly Bye, Dawk :(

by JimmyK on Jun 28, 2010 4:41 PM EDT reply actions

Yeah, just substitute Orakpo twice for Trent Cole twice

on this list. The Giants and Dallas have much the same situation – plug and play.

by Jefferson1935 on Jun 28, 2010 6:47 PM EDT up reply actions

With that said,

I guess Trent will be lining up against B-Rak in practice everyday… What better way to prepare him for this type of Schedule?

by ATXSkinfan on Jun 29, 2010 2:33 PM EDT up reply actions

Wow

Kinda weird that we have a Giants DE who is one of the weak links in this chain. Just a couple of years ago their line was fantastic. (and I’m not saying Kiwanuka is a slouch either)

If Trent is the real deal, he is going to grow up fast and furious. No doubt Shanny’s will play call to his strengths and try to run down the D’s throats. Let’s hope BMW is healthy and after a year at his new weight will be more athletic in his road grading.

No doubt Shanny’s will play call to his strengths

And that’s why I’m not overly worried for Trent. The Shanahans will be able to alter their playcalling and formations in order to help him out if he needs it (hopefully he doesn’t). If Trent were on a Jim Zorn offensive team, come September, I’d be in a corner in the fetal position.

If T. Williams has problems with these pass rushers

there can be a TE on his side of the line. If the rushers want an outside lane, run to their inside. The other 4 offensive linemen can do their job in pass protection.
