Ben Roethlisberger?

How much does Roethlisberger's availability hurt our ability to move Jason Campbell?  (Not what you were expecting, I know)  With only a limited number of suitors for Campbell in the first place, does anyone think we can get more than a third round pick for him?  Given how tough draft picks are in coming so far...I doubt it.  At best, I think Oakland, Buffalo, maybe Cleveland, Jacksonville, or even Carolina would be in play.  Who bites, and for what?

At this point, I think Jason's off the table.

At least for tonight. Maybe we hear something about it tomorrow after the four and possibly Ben are moved. It wouldn’t be a bad thing if he’s not traded within the draft. Someone’s sure to lose a QB in training camp, preseason, or the first couple of weeks in the regular season. But it’s not imperative that he go “today”.

I heard the most likely scenario is Campbell gets released.

He’s taking a roster spot and owed $3mil…cut em loose. We at lease owe him that much to not sit for a year.

That depends on Jason.

If he realizes that being a backup to Donovan is the best scenario, and he’s willing to renegotiate his contract, then he could opt to stay.

With all that said, I doubt that happens.

He can't renegotiate...

He was offered a RFA tender, and I believe that deal is set in stone, unless he is waived.

Besides, I would so much rather have JC as my 2nd string QB over the Mental Midget.

by TerroristFistJab on Apr 23, 2010 9:40 AM EDT up reply actions

It's not set in stone

They could negotiate a one-year contract for less than that. You can’t negotiate the tender, but you can write and sign an actual contract that would trump the tender.

Good to know...

I was wondering about the ramifications of signing him to that deal. Though I suspect that if the Skins asked to renegotiate a deal, he would decline and force them to trade or release him.

it's a real shame

that someone with integrity like JC won’t get a look when a guy like Ben "Rape"lisberger will get all the publicity. On another note seeing the penalty that Vick got a couple years ago, and comparing it to Ben’s, when did dog fighting become worse than rape. The man is despicable and should be gone from the league.

not saying I disagree

but I was reading an article on SB Nation that went something along the lines of Vick was actually convicted of his crime, compounded with the fact that he lied to the commissioner as well.

true but

There was enough evidence to go forward with a trial but the girl didn’t want to press charges. Who knows what a high priced lawyer of Ben’s could do to her. I believe that you are innocent till proven guilty, and I know he has not been convicted but the evidence is there and it is not the first time he has done something like this. I commend the Rooneys for looking to rid themselves of this cancer, it is the respectable thing to do.

I agree

just wanted to put that train of thought out there.

Whoa now...

Rape? C’mon man, no charges have ever been filed. Sexual assault can mean a lot of things (indecent exposure, unwanted touching, unwelcome advances), but not a single soul has ever come forward and accused Ben of rape in a criminal court.

The girl in Vegas filed a civil suit, and the woman here accused him of assault, and charges were dropped. I think he probably is an asshole, but at this point all he has done is put himself in the position to be accused of something.

there's no way you get a 3rd for Campbell

some very good players are being traded or rumored to be traded for very little….I’d say a 5th or 6th is the best they’d do…maybe a 3rd for 2011

by BostonSkinsFan on Apr 22, 2010 9:43 AM EDT reply actions

If the best we're offered...

Is future year picks, then keep JC as the backup.

There might not be football next year, what the hell is the point in looking forward to a draft that may be of no consequence?

by TerroristFistJab on Apr 23, 2010 9:44 AM EDT up reply actions

Campbell won't garner a 3rd round pick

It would be worth the value, but that simply not what he’s going to go for. 4th or 5th. The good news for Campbell about Rothlisberger getting traded is that it would mean that one more team is in the market for a QB. And, honestly, of all the teams mentioned so far in the Campbell trade talks, Pittsburgh has to be his dream destination.

by kseandoyle on Apr 22, 2010 10:25 AM EDT reply actions

Seriously...

I was thinking last night about the Colts and how they have jack shit for QB depth behind Manning. Wouldn’t it be something for him to end up as a backup there or in Pittsburgh? I’d be happy as hell for the man.

by TerroristFistJab on Apr 23, 2010 9:45 AM EDT up reply actions

I don't know...

It seems like Leftwhich has the favor of the coaching in Pittsburgh, so any hypothetical deal for JC would likely put him into a battle for 2nd string along with Dixon and Batch. Speaking of which, wouldn’t it be totally in the spirit of the Steelers organization to be the only NFL team with 100% of its QB’s being black? (Rooney rule and all).

Not to open up a can of worms, but I heard Loverro say today that he thinks that the lack of overt interest in JC indicates that teams around the league think that JC isn’t “smart” enough to play the position.

by TerroristFistJab on Apr 23, 2010 2:55 PM EDT up reply actions

Unfortunately, Pittsburgh brought back Byron Leftwich...

And I’m pretty sure that they’d prefer to have him over JC – they know he can do a decent job in their system, and so I think they are fine for the short-term, and would look for a long-term solution on their own.

just supposing.....

we trade Mc Nabb, AH and Davis to SF for their 2 #1s…..trade their top #1 for Ben Rothlisberger….draft Okung and Colt….then trade Campbell, Carter and Landry for a 2 and a 3, pick up 2 more OL’s or OL and a LB? (slow day here)

by MagicHat on Apr 22, 2010 10:48 AM EDT reply actions

I'd be concerned

you just removed Campbell as the face of the franchise – a class act – and replaced him with McNabb – a class act but a little sketchy – whom you now want to replace with a dirtbag; all in less than a month?

Don’t likee.

Well said Scott....

I was just musing not condoning….I still don’t know how I feel about trading Campbell at this point…..other than the fact that I would like to see him get an honest shot somewhere that he can be appreciated.(and we seriously need all the picks we can get) Would have loved to be able to keep him.

by MagicHat on Apr 22, 2010 11:32 AM EDT up reply actions

It may behoove us to keep JC

given DM’s injury record. All other alternatives at QB get a bit scary.

Big Ben

He wasn’t convicted of or even indicted for anything, but it appears that he definitely acted like an idiot and bully, enough to get him suspended. Namely, he followed a young girl into a woman’s restroom, and somehow got her to have sex with him (not clear if it constituted rape, but it was certainly close, since she was probably intimidated). All this with his bodyguard nearby. Considering the other accusation, he certainly seems to be a world class jerk, and I would not ever want him on my team.

Plus the (only) cop that took the report was taking pics with Big Ben

and the cop recently resigned. GA police botched it pretty good.

The girl should sue the GA police department.

She CLEARLY had her rights violated and could get paid. Though, if she really was raped, there is no $$$ amount that would appease her. Ya feel me?

by J.Cash on Apr 22, 2010 3:01 PM EDT up reply actions

seriously, how about this?

AH, JC, and #4 for #13 and #17. sounds fair.

AH doesn’t have to play NT. JC puts Smith on the pine. They can pick up Berry with #4

OL with both of those picks.
