I know that by trading for McNabb we are sending a message that we are planning on being a good or at least improved team next year. Trading away the 37th pick in a very good draft definitely says that we are planning on being contenders & I hope, as do all of you, that we are. My problem is when I look at our D, that if we are transitioning from a 4-3 to a 3-4 that it will take a couple of years to acquire the right players. Orakpo is one of the few players on our team who will excel in either system. NT is such an important position on a 3-4 defense & I am not sure that Kemo has the gas to be a 16 game starter anymore. There has been a lot of talk about Haynesworth being our NT ( & maybe he could be a good one ) but he does not want to play the position & it really is not what he excels at. Our two new pickups, Bryant & McKinney have the size to be 3-4 DEs IMO, not too sure about the talent. I also think that we will need LBer help if we are switching as well as a true FS. On the offensive side of the ball it will be tough to get our line in any way respectable in one off-season & getting a real "playmaker" would be nice so as to be able to stretch defenses.
I do have total faith in both our coaching staff & our new FO & I have no doubt that their football knowledge is infinitely superior to mine. I also have no doubt that they have a plan & are building this team according to it.
I am curious what you guys think, are we rebuilding or are we contending??
