Rocky McIntosh not in camp
According to the Washington Post, Rocky is not in camp due to contractual problems. Is it just me , or is this one of a handful of defenders we CANNOT afford to lose? I say pay the man his due. He was second on the team in tackles last year. He is going to be needed in a 3-4 or some variation of a 3-4. I don't think now is the time to take the risk of losing a solid young LB. He is only 27. In his prime.
It seems the Skins are so busy signing players in their 30's they are forgetting to resign one of their best young players. Let's get this deal done, Bruce Allen. I want Rocky on the field in 2010.
Does anyone have any additional info the Post didn't discuss regarding his situation?

I have no idea anymore what the defensive plan is…makes it hard to judge how Rocky fits. I like him, so he’s probably doomed (jk)

Rocky
Good point about how he fits into the scheme, but I’m always amazed that they play hard ball with the good guys, but throw money at other guys. Penny wise and pound foolish, like with Antonio Pierce. But as Tony says, we don’t usually know what’s going on, the real facts.
you know, we are very close to having NO starters
actually drafted by the ’Skins…very sad if they let Rocky get away.

McIntosh versus most of the other NFL restricted free agents:
The ones that would have become unrestricted free agents have the same gripe as McIntosh. They were generally offered one year tenders plus some level like 1st+a 3rd, a 1st, a 2nd, etc. compensation. McIntosh in effect wants to be treated like an exception and figures that he has some leverage to get an extension plus more bucks. That is his prerogative. He basically has not been a troublesome player although he has some injury concerns going back to his college days.
and he's solid, not great
I think he needs a reality check.
Next years possible lock out..
And uncertainity may be the reason, it could be that Rocky wants a long term deal and might want to test the market. Their is so much going on and I am sure other teams are facing the same questions. Usually a contract squabble results in a trade so it does not interfere with team chemistry.
Rocky's situation
is not unique. I don’t feel the least bit bad for him, and I don’t think we should treat him special, or any different than anyone else for that matter. Furthermore, while I do kind of like McIntosh, I do not feel he is irreplaceable. In fact, in the 3-4, he may be replaced anyway, who knows. With Alexander moving to LB, Chris Wilson in the mix, and (hopefully) Robert Henson developing, McIntosh could be easily replaceable. If he doesn’t want to be here, I’d rather have a draft pick.
McIntosh's NFL rating
is 82.3 which was 41st of 58 4-3 outside linebackers and his Pro Football Focus rating was 43rd. He really is no more than an average OLB in the 4-3 scheme. As Donnio has said “he probably does overrate himself.”

Rocky
I hope they keep him, but he probably does overrate himself. Most good players do. He’ll probably see the light, and stay. If not, I hope we get something good for him.
