Redskins re-sign OT Heyer, DL Montgomery

Offensive tackle Stephon Heyer and defensive tackle Anthony Montgomery yesterday signed their restricted free agent tender offers from the Washington Redskins.

Both players were expected to return to the club even though Washington tendered them at low levels last month. In fact, the Redskins would not have received any compensation for Heyer's or Montgomery's departure if the team had tendered them any lower.

...

The Redskins' remaining unsigned restricted free agents are cornerback Carlos Rogers, linebacker Rocky McIntosh, safety Reed Doughty, and defensive tackle Kedric Golston. They have until today to sign an offer sheet from another team.

Our season is saved!!

Kidding…both are decent additions. As much as Heyer sucked last year, the fact Shanahan spoke highly of Heyer makes me willing to give him another shot. I guess that goes for the whole team the way Zorn and Blache mis-used so many players.

Don't forget the obligatory hype for "outgoing" players who

are now not so outgoing. We’ll see if someone beats him out at camp and he is even a backup…

Shanahan spoke highly of Campbell, doesn't mean much

Heyer will be a great back up.

Right Shanny, a BACK UP?

More instant gratification

from Redskin fans…some linemen picked in the top 100 picks take a couple of years to earn a starters job…Heyer was thrown to the wolves…
they had to have an excuse for Jason

So now we have

1 hundred and forty TWO defensive tackles for ONE spot. They need to trade 1 or 2 or FIVE of these guys.

by CJHutch on Apr 15, 2010 9:20 AM EDT reply actions

I don't think there will be enough parking at the Ashburn facility

this Summer until they start weeding through some of these guys.

so basically

we can’t even GIVE Heyer away? Nice

Well...

Heyer has a 2nd round tender…no chance anyone takes that.

I think if we pair him with a nice fruitcake or mincemeat pie

someone will bite…

Maybe we can package Heyer

with the guy who washes cars at Redskins Park for a 1/2 lb Nacho Burrito from Taco Bell.

by CarverM on Apr 15, 2010 10:41 AM EDT up reply actions

I think we need to go higher with Heyer

and package him with Pie Mysterio, the Lucha Libra wrestler, and then just get the nachos in return.

Man!

And I thought you’d so like the Lucha Libra reference. And then using Ken’s name in the random wrestler name generator get’s no mention. That was priceless

So much for Welcome Back Scott! hehe…

And stop talking about my damn stretchy pants – even if they are wrapped around underneath my armpits!

WHY

couldn’t SOMEONE have hired Vinny? We could’ve stockpiled tons of draft picks by now, just returning his trash to him.

by CJHutch on Apr 15, 2010 9:45 AM EDT up reply actions

Who?

Who besides ESPN and Snyder (twice) would hire that guy? Him and Matt Millen have a beautiful future together.

by RPMontana on Apr 15, 2010 10:29 AM EDT up reply actions

Man, I'm tellin' you,

Vinny resigned from the vice president position, he wasn’t fired from the organization.
His position now is…let me put it this way-
remember the prince regent in “Braveheart”? remember his advisor/lover who gets tossed out the castle window?
yeah, that guy except without the defenestration unfortunately

Heyer

They cut Griffin, RAE and Betts, but keep Heyer. Amazing. And a 2nd round tender! Maybe somebody would give us a 6th rounder for him?

apparently.

Heyer and Hicks are our starting tackles right now

no way we could let either of them go

by Skins Fan '77 on Apr 15, 2010 2:54 PM EDT up reply actions

Heyer and Hicks starting tackles

Sort of sobering. I read that Hicks is better at guard, so would logically battle Williams for the RG spot (leaving it in pretty good shape). But he could also battle with Heyer and Jones for RT. Whatever, RT is a real weak point. We desperately need two good tackles. If Heyer is the starting RT, we’ll be really lucky to win 6 games.
