Derek Anderson?
Former Oregon State and Pro Bowl quarterback Derek Andersonwas cut today by the Cleveland Browns after a year in which he replaced the starter Brady Quinn during the Ravensgame. Now that the browns have cut him I think it wouldn't hurt to take a look at signing him as our back-up because in my opinion Colt will not be our number two and Anderson would be a viable back-up if Jason gets hurt. Plus he has the experience of being a starter in the league if Jason goes down so if we draft a sam Bradford he wont get thrust into the game we could have Anderson step in and hopefully lead us to victory. The one problem i think we have in not signing him is i believe he is looking to be a starter and he will not be one here and he is most likely looking for starters type of money

He had a game where he only had two completions
Why would you want a guy who cant even complete 40% of his passes. Hes just not worth it. I at least want to be optimistic about our backup, if by chance he would have to come in the game. Derek does not offer that type of optimism.
Name some of his WR
My point is, they all suck

mohammed massaquoi
is second round pick who has a lot of potential. Massaquoi had couple hundred yard games. If Anderson could have been able to but the ball on him consistently, Massaquoi would have been a 1000 yard receiver.

I have to agree
I live 20 miles from Cleveland, so I got to watch the personal suckfest that is Derek Anderson all last year. Cleveland had better blocking than we did, had promising receivers in massaquoi, robiskie, cribbs, and to an extent stuckey. Through all of this, the one constant was anderson unable to hit a wr in stride. When fans are clamoring to put brett ratliff into the game, you know there is a problem at qb. No thank you.
Being a Browns Fan
All I can say to you is, “Kordell Stewart” anyone? This guy cannot even reach kordell’s jock strap. You would be doing yourselves a “HUGE DISERVICE” to bring this loser in. Just look at Jamarcus Russel, he actually had a better season all around than this azzclown.
I have never had a bad thing to say about the Hogs, and would actually like to see you guys get better and kick the “Boys” azzes over and over. Good Luck to ya’s.

My best friends from college
are from Ohio and are die hard Browns fans. I respect rooting for a team that disappoints year in and year out. I’ve got a soft spot for the Browns myself..
No brainer
Sign him ASAP. He’s looking to be a starter?…Good!….We could use some competiveness at the position. We should be in a hurry to sign him.
Although I really believe Troy Smith is going to be a star but I dont think we have the draft picks to give up for him.

I would much rather have Troy smith than someone is terribly inaccurate
Derek Anderson is terrible. He had a 42 quarterback rating, and a 44 completion percentage. He had 10 interception to 3 touchdowns. Is this what you want starting for your team. I don’t even want that on my bench. I’m sure Colt Brennan can do better than that.

Yeah
It’s not like they were booing despite his excellent play. He needs to look at the fans as being entirely supportive of his career. As in, “You need an entirely new career path and we’re not even charging you for the advice.” What can be clearer than that?

I like the Pittsburgh Back up
I forget his name now, he played one game last year against the Ravens and did not disgrace himself, even ran for and passed for TD’s.
He was a College star who did his knee in his senior year, before that he was projected as a 1st or 2nd Rd pick, there was a great SI piece on him at the time where he had set up a webcam in his gym so all the Pro Scouts could watch him work out.
I would love to sign that guy, cos he played spread style in college, we could even utilise him as a Wildcat QB in certain situations
Pommylee
Just a note to all posters at this site
I particularly don’t care if I ever see the Burgundy and Gold in the Wildcat formation. With the Shannys’ offensive IQs there should never be a need to get all gimmicky. Everyone has seen it run and knows how to defend it, so we are best to focus on pummeling our opponents with the run followed by bombs away. IMO. With all our pressing problems, I think it is a waste of time and energy to even think about it.
Not pouncing on you PommyLee, but have been meaning to say that for some time.

GOTTA BE JOKIN ME RIGHT???
THIS GUY HAD ONE OF THE WORST SEASONS LAST YEAR IN NFL HISTORY!!…WHO IN THE @@ WOULD WANT HIM IN WASHINGTON????…..LMAO
he is what we thought he was
and that’s a 3rd string QB. No thanks!
With our current situation
Its best that we sign him. Like I said, we need a nice competition at the position during camp whether JC stays or goes. I mean anderson could be alot worst than JC or he could be alot better. Plus I like him playing under our current coaching staff…I think shanahan can excel Anderson’s play. Either way its time to roll the dice on a qb and let them battle it out…we cant be content with mediocricity

I'm not sure the solution to 'being content with mediocrity'
is to sign a significantly worse player to ‘compete’ for the position.
Aaaaahahahahahahahaha!
Do you watch football through a reflection of funhouse mirrors? How could you possibly believe this guy could pressure Jason for a QB position?
we cant be content with mediocricity
So let’s settle for total incompetence….?
Time flies like an arrow. Fruit flies like a banana.
They did stand out in
comparison to the ones that fell short or flew wide or overhead. Then the batted balls and throws knocked down by the coverage come to mind. A neat spiral to the side judge comes stands out as well and the guy who marks the lines on the field DID catch it, so I’m thinking that maybe I should back off some.

If Shnanahan can improve Anderson of all people...
the he can improve JC. Also, Cleveland has had a QB competition for years, look were it got them.
So you think Shanahan and Co. can excel Anderson but not JC?
Anderson had 1 good year but we can’t be content with mediocrity? lol wow man
PLEASE no
this feels too much like the Kent Graham signing. Why do we want a guy who couldn’t start for one of the worst teams in the league?
I'm sure you guys can come up with a couple of excuses for his poor play last season...givem a chance

hahahahahaha
Most of the excusses at the QB position have been taken….
" IF YoU Are aRgUinG WiTh ME, YOU ArE WRonG!!!! "
Let's say that overall his line and weapons were
pretty close to what we had last year and same for the coaching. How do you attribute his QB rating, which was half of JC’s? (pretty funny comment, though, Mr.SHM) LOL
Time flies like an arrow. Fruit flies like a banana.
Dont get me wrong
Campbell is hands down better i think than Anderson right now… HIs team and coaches were pretty lousy last year as was ours. We did squeek that all impressive one more win out than they did though… Just trying to be funny…
Campbell is a little less sucky than he is….
" IF YoU Are aRgUinG WiTh ME, YOU ArE WRonG!!!! "
HA!
Yet JC somehow finds a way to rate out in the middle of the league for a job position very few in the world are capable of performing….just saying we cannot afford to throw out the baby with the bathwater – not this year. Next year we will know and all may change.
Time flies like an arrow. Fruit flies like a banana.
Does this mean you
are not going to shoot me? LOL
Time flies like an arrow. Fruit flies like a banana.
what are you talking about.... Why would I shoot you...
I only have one bullet and im saving that one for someone special…
" IF YoU Are aRgUinG WiTh ME, YOU ArE WRonG!!!! "
I was joking on your post of yesterday
Something about the world would be a simpler place if you shot everyone who disagreed with you. All good fun.
Time flies like an arrow. Fruit flies like a banana.
shooting everybody
that doesn’t agree with you would be fun…..?
Make sure to frisk milc down extra hard if we ever have an HH get together.
SpottieOttieDopaliscious

you're just being selfish
SpottieOttieDopaliscious
Hell no!
Sure he could come in and surprise us all by playing like he did a few years ago when he went to the Pro Bowl, OR he could continue his decline since then. I don’t want to take that chance though.
The poll on this thread is the closest I've seen on HH.
58 against and 55 for acquiring Anderson.

Neither do I
I’m assuming a lot of people are just that desperate for a QB change.
