I WAS AGAINST THE SHANAHAN HIRING FROM BEFORE THE START
as in before he was even hired I did not want him, and the releases overnight, only serve to confirm my view, well one of them anyway
I know the guy was injured and this is a ruthless business, but in a team that used 5 RB's last year, only one of which was any good, and you decide to release the good one. How quickly we forget that after years of sitting behind Portis, he got his chance last year and had good solid outings every game, even though teams knew Zorn would run on 1st down more often that not, and they knew if we were running, we were definitly not running behind Heyer, so could double down on the left. Now after tendering, Heyer, they unceremoniously let Betts go
Now after saying all this, I dont know how is injury is progressing of course, and knee's can be a bitch, but after sitting uncomplainingly for years behind Portis and being a solid if unspectacular contributor, he really stepped up when needed last year, and now IN AN UNCAPPED YEAR NO LESS, the team that paid Haynesworth 110 million, doesnt even have a lazy million to give to a long serving Redskin, to see if he does recuperate from injury.
Which raises my main concern
Is this a Portis driven thing, I dont mean in the sense that Portis engineered it, but is it Shanahans way of saying to Clinton, that hey, even though you'll here some noise about FA RB's and we may even sign one, or use a pick on a RB, you are still important to us. Have we just cut a high character guy, to send a silent message to someone who most who have watched him think is done...I hope not
mostly though, I hope I'm wrong about Shanahan, but in amongst some of the good stuff that has happened in the last few months, sits little red flags like this one
