I don't understand this. I know the Redskins need a 2nd inside LB, but the egos mounting in the Redskins locker room is getting to me. Is it because Porter once got shot in the ass? Or he mouths off and causes distractions? There's really no one else? Might as well bring in T.O. for a visit at this rate.

I don't see how he fits.

I’ll be surprised if we sign him.

Yeah, well

the same could have been said about Larry Johnson and Rex Grossman.

Eh, disagree

We need a back up RB and QB.

We don’t need another starting OLB

IMO

We STILL need a backup RB and QB. Those guys are just band-aids. As for us not needing a starting OLB, how do we really know at this point?

by VA_Skin on Mar 17, 2010 3:55 PM EDT up reply actions

Unless you've drafted someone for the future, back ups ARE band aids

by definition.

Porter

would most likely play on the outside, he’s played outside in the 3 – 4 for a long time

by milkman41 on Mar 17, 2010 9:34 AM EDT reply actions

Right, but OLB is the one place we have the personnel for already.

he would play inside

He has played outside lineback his whole career

why would he switch to inside now. He is a pass rusher not a sure tackler.

And a dolphins fan told me he's bad against the run

and awful in coverage

I can't stand this guy

He’s a me first type, a loud mouth, a locker room cancer, and he’s gotten into trouble and suspended for attacking Levi Jones in a casino because of on the field trash talk. The actual security tape showed Levi Jones being attacked by Porter and some of his friends. This guy is the ultimate piece of garbage.

Shanny must be desperate. It will be a sorry day if they sign him.

by skinsymets on Mar 17, 2010 9:48 AM EDT reply actions

Well lets just hope

he joins the parade of other folks who have visited and not signed. We already have enough without this.

by SkinsOsTerps on Mar 17, 2010 9:58 AM EDT reply actions

I'm willing to wait and hope

I’m OK with LJ (for now) and expected to see Grossman come along. Why we didn’t get Foote confounds me, if we are willing to even look at Porter. [shudder]

Time flies like an arrow. Fruit flies like a banana.

I'm wondering

if maybe they played it too hard with Foote then when he didn’t sign they got worried?

by SkinsOsTerps on Mar 17, 2010 10:42 AM EDT up reply actions

Are you begining

to wish you had signed Peppers, Dansby and Rolle now?

by G Fan in England on Mar 17, 2010 10:36 AM EDT reply actions

Hell no. Nothing's changed.

No expensive free agents.

Or Danta Robinson?

Actually it was like a relief. I liked Dansby more than the other ones for what he had to offer to the Skins. The money for these guys was crazy.

There are still a few free agents worth more moderate bucks at the Skins positions of need – http://www.nfl.com/freeagency#players-tab-set-1:players-grid-container-recent/players-list-links-position:pos-ol . More players show up on the specific position listings. Over a dozen offensive line starters appear on the OL list. Many of them are mediocre and some out right stink. Yet there are about six that would not hurt the Skins’ roster. http://home.comcast.net/~fwroy/version%202%20NFL%20OL%20talent.html

Lets not lose perspective....

Grossman is experienced in Kyles system and porter is a proven pass rusher in the 3-4 scheme and is by no means guaranteed to be signed. Even if they do sign him its not a bad look for us football wise. People on this site get too caught up in players personal lives….this self righteous shit is startin’ to be overwhelming, damn.

I agree

he can help the QBs ramp up in practice on Kyle’s system.

Grossman can also help in the film room.

That is one area where the details are in the tasting.

by Jefferson1935 on Mar 17, 2010 2:30 PM EDT up reply actions

Isn't he an OLB anyway?

Plus, he’s a right side guy, like Orakpo and Carter. Aren’t we jamming up that side of things already?

by kseandoyle on Mar 17, 2010 12:06 PM EDT reply actions

Porter

I don’t know anything about him and don’t know if he will help the team, but some seem very judgemental about him based on a few non-criminal incidents. Even if he was a bit of a hothead in his younger days, he’s older and probably more mature now, and not a star, not the leader, thus likely to be less obnoxious. All great athletes have a big ego. If the Skins don’t see that maturity, they shouldn’t sign him, and shouldn’t pay him a lot, and if he starts acting up, cut him. They probably see his ability and skills, and want to check him out. The Grossman signing can be looked at several ways – as backup or competition for JC (suggesting they won’t go for a QB) or as enabling them to trade JC and go with Bradford (with Grossman, not JC as the backup/competition). Depends how they rate the four QBs (JC, Grossman, Bradford, Clausen). Whatever, getting Rex gives the Skins more flexibility.

So we’ve gone from signing all the big names to signing all the cancers? Oh well. The cat can play the game. Pretty damn well I might add.

To me, it's perfectly ok to question: What the @#$% are they are doing?

This makes 0% sense to even have him come in for an interview. First of all, he is clearly using the Skins to ramp up his offers and draw more interest from Arizona and San Diego. He does not want to play on the east coast!
Secondly, he is a ME first complainer, that wants to bulk his stats 1st and foremost.
Thirdly, he is an injury prone part-time old player who has lost his skills. He will be 33, and literally makes almost no plays if he doesn’t get a sack. He runs his mouth both on the field and off, about everyone and everything. He takes games off, only had 2 decent games all of last year. Had 1 good year out of 3 with Miami. And if Bill Parcells wants to get rid of a Linebacker, you know it’s over.
An absolutely ridiculous invitation, Andra Davis just signed with the Bills, and would have fit here 50 times better than Porter. And he wasn’t even invited.
Haynesworth, Portis, Johnson, and possibly Porter on the same roster along with several other disgruntled vets? Are you kidding me? This is quickly becoming an All-Time ME FIRST team. Sounds like Allen, Shanahan, and Haslett are living in the past. Earth to Front Office…..It’s 2010!
Dynamite, TNT, Gasoline, and a case of matches in a Romper room. Good luck!

Well damn...

Seems to me like u have everything all figured out huh johnny??…maybe u should be GM and head coach instead of the two PROVEN winners we currently have since u are somehow more capable of evaluating the players that make up our upcoming roster…The point is that once again we don’t know if Porter will end up signing or not and we don’t know our teams chemistry will unfold until the season starts, so to start bashing player interviews and signings in march is a little premature….

by JONAH 31 on Mar 17, 2010 1:13 PM EDT reply actions   1 recs

The point I am making is if this were Cerato making these same moves....

he would be rightfully lambasted. I understand Shanahan was a great coach years ago, and Allen was a good GM years ago. Shanahan was considered a mediocre GM who was overpowering in his pursuit of certain players. I still have a right as a fan to question and critique moves made by my team. I am not blindly willing to accept all these moves as positive team building. Porter, IMO, is not an upgrade, only a replacement for Carter. Andra Davis, IMO would have fit much better as an interior linebacker next to Fletch, yet he wasn’t even invited.
At some point, it’s time to question some of these moves. Porter has already stated he wants to play in Arizona or San Diego. He ran himself out of Miami. Him coming here sends a negative message, IMO.
Shanahan as a coach…Awesome, but as a GM….not so sure.

Good pass rusher.

I keep trying to reset my password to "penis", but it keeps telling me "too short".

sooo...

we just completely disregarded Andra Davis….and we go after Joey Porter? nice…i love it….2010 sexy rexy, Larry Tampon & Joey all upgrades apparently smh….

Dorothy Mantooth is a saint!!!

I'm pretty sure Porter would start at OLB

Rocky seems more suited for the inside in a 3-4.
Albert at LE, Kemo at NT, Carter RE
Porter LOLB London LILB Rocky RILB ’Rak ROLB

Haynesworth, Kemo, Rocky all injury risks so backups will also be important. I think big Al moves to the nose on passing downs with Jarmon filling in hopefully.
