Haynesworth to Show up

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/03/14/report-haynesworth-will-show-up-for-the-start-of-offseason-workouts/

For all the grief Big Al cops about his attitude, he was there for all the workouts last year, he is here again this year and last year seemed to be one of the few guys who genuily got angry in the Guts (the massive guts admittedly) at all the losing, dysfuntion, and all around nightmare that was the 2009 Washington Redskins.

I really am starting to feel that he gets a bad wrap, all he did last year was create enough carnage on the line to give Carter a career season at DE, helped a Rooking in Orakpo get a dream NFL start with a Pro Bowl berth to boot, got a couple of Sacks himself, fired up at Blache about his tentative scheme, something all fans had been screaming about all year (and possibly two)

I know I am probably in the minority here, But I am glad we got Big Al, and I cant wait to see him tear sh*t up if (and its a big IF) if we use him as 3-4 DE and not spend a 100 million to fill space in the 3-4

Preferably I want him as a 4-3 DT of course, but if we are committed to going 3-4 I really really hope we get a Mt Cody or someone to play the space eating role in the 3-4 and as I have written elsewhere on this site, release Big Al and B-Rak from the same side of the 3-4, I just dont see how a defence stops that combo without letting Jarmon, Carter on the other side have an absolute field day because they have overloaded BRaksworth with RB's and TE's on the other side

Pomm, I have more respect for Al then I do most of the other pansies that were on our defense. He spoke his mind about the piss poor defensive scheme Blache used. He also stood up for his teamates on the field.

It speaks volumes about a team and its coach, when you have one player getting slung around on the other teams sideline and nobody helps but Al. I was almost embarrased to call myself a Redskins fan after watching that mess. If Al had not came to the rescue they would still be slinging D. Hall around right now.

I hate to defend LJP

but he said the scheme was piss poor, not the defense? Which means the players overcame the stupid scheme. I don’t see it as splitting hairs.

Reason for the scheme in the defensive backfield was Hall's weakness according to Greg Trippiedi

In his opinion piece, he said:
“Rogers had the worst season of his career in 2009 playing in a zone-heavy scheme that essentially was built to protect against DeAngelo Hall’s weaknesses. Rogers was below average for the first time in his career, and recorded no interceptions for the first time in his career, but he was better at adapting to the role than the other man coverage corner … , Fred Smoot. In making the decision about whether to keep Rogers or trade him, the Redskins need to address what coverage system they will be playing. There probably isn’t a simple coverage scheme that will allow Rogers to reach his potential while protecting Hall’s weaknesses, and this is what Greg Blache struggled with early in the year. If they decide to keep Rogers, Hall might need to be tried at safety. If they’re going to keep Hall as the number one corner, they’re best off trading Rogers now while he still has value. Rogers flashed his ability at the end of 2009, enough so that the Redskins could get something for him in a trade, if only a third or fourth rounder, but Hall is the one who Vinny Cerrato committed all the money to, and the Redskins have to live with that.” http://redskinshogheaven.com/2010-articles/february/redskins-old-guard.html

If this is a fair evaluation, the Skins need some personnel moves in the defensive backfield. Any alternative viewpoints?

Haynesworth was a good addition

but I’m not sure any player is worth $100 million. But hey, it’s not my money. There’s no doubt in my mind that he improve the DL and I think we’ll see a big improvenemt this year just because the DB scheme won’t be so passive.

I hate how PFT says stuff like
Despite speculation that Redskins defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth could skip the voluntary portion of the offseason program to voice his supposed displeasure with the shift from a 4-3 scheme to a 3-4 attack

I haven’t seen anything outside of this article to suggest he would skip.

Yea, PFT is crap

"I am excited about starting 2009. We are looking forward to an outstanding year. We're on our way. We have a lot of healthy players this year." - Vinny Cerrato

Big Al

He’s gives 100% and more every play – no wonder he gets tired. A real Redskin. We’re lucky to have him.

Yes

Al “Bring the” Painsworth was a great addition. It’s not my money, so I could care less. Plus, I’m pretty sure the largest part of his guaranteed money comes this year, when the salary cap hit doesn’t mean a damned thing.
Now, I will admit that at first I too grew tired of seeing himest he can that take every other play off. But once I heard him tell one reporter that "I get double-teamed every play. Let’s see YOU go up against 650 lbs. and not be tired.

Of course, all that said, I still think he needs to be in a lot better shape than last year, to ensure as best as possible that he plays 16 games, in which case he will re-establish himself as the most dominant player in the league.

I don't understand

why everyone says it’s not their money. Snyder doesn’t lose any money at all. He might be shelling it out initially but he makes it all back from ticket sales, food, and souveneirs. So the more he spens the more the fans spend too.

by skinsnyankees on Mar 15, 2010 1:38 PM EDT reply actions

OK, sure

it’s not ALL his money. Fans definitely split the bill with him. But, since I went to no games last year, I am still in the right saying it is “not my money.”

by CJHutch on Mar 15, 2010 2:51 PM EDT up reply actions

it's easy

I don’t keep the $100 million in my pocket if Haynesworth isn’t signed. Why? Becasue it’s not my money! I didn’t contribute 1 penny to Snyders fortune last year.

by aFan4Life on Mar 16, 2010 12:28 PM EDT up reply actions

It is moot.....

there is a minimum and maximum cap (not in 2010 obviously)……..if he didn’t spend it on Haynesworth…..it would have gone elsewhere. We would still be flipping the bill no matter what. It’s part of being a fan!

Albert at NT...

I agree, I’d rather see Haynesworth at DE and a proven traditional NT in the middle on most plays. But using the NT as a “space eater” as everyone says isn’t the only way to play a 3-4. Jay Ratliff has put up sack numbers the last two seasons that would be outstanding for a 4-3 DT. He plays NT totally differently than guys like Casey Hampton or Vince Wilfork, shedding blockers instead of occupying them. If Haynesworth could do the same thing, he’d be pretty scary at the nose. Obviously we brought in Kemoeatu for a reason, but Haynesworth could be a good fit in the middle on passing downs to get an extra rush threat.

Serious business.

I don't think that people don't like Al, as much as they don't like how much we're paying him.

But I love the dude. He’s just big and mean, and I love every second of it. I would LOVE to see him lined up at DE and scare Tackles half dead before the ball is hiked. That would be a thing of beauty.

I'm happy to purchase one or two extra $8.00 cheap domestics

just to have Al on our team. Thank god the Iggles, G-Men, and Cowpokes didn’t get him. Now we need to really build our D into something fearsome with the addition of a few key players and an aggressive scheme. This D can and should kick butt.

Time flies like an arrow. Fruit flies like a banana.
