Sam Bradford Highlight Film
For those of you who don't follow college football, or some who just haven't had the time to see him play, here is a clip of some highlights of Sam Bradford's Sophomore year.
Couple things to notice here. His release is unbelievably quick. Also, his accuracy is amazing. He shows very good footwork in the pocket, and has the ability to slide step to aviod the rush and buy his WR's extra time. He is also very athletic for someone his size which is evident on a couple of his runs. What sticks out to me most is his ability to go through his progressions so quickly. Bob Stoops runs a very complicated offense, so it's not like he has 2 reads and then checks down. He shows such great field vision, decisiveness, and throws a very catachable ball. What he does very well that scouts love, but not many college QB's do well, is looking off, and being able to move the safety with his eyes. You will notice this on many of his throws.
I hope all you who are against drafting him just take 6 min to watch this, so you can get an idea of the type of talent this kid has. I know it won't sway many people's minds, but maybe it can open some.
I'd love to hear your comments whether positive of negative.

Sam Bradford is the truth!
Sam Bradford is the truth … I like JC but SB is going to be one of the greatest if he can get to Washington. I’ve been a skins fan since I was born … I we go from one quarterback to the next … every year …. we need some consistency and a star quarterback!

If they do indeed go QB, this is the guy to get.
In my mind, he is worth trading up for. I believe with the 2 Shannys that he will be the greatest quarterback in Redskin history. I am already sold on him, and not at all concerned with his shoulder since Andrews cleared him. Still, a Left Tackle is a must get, as is a 3rd down back.
That's bordering on Al Davis logic.
Look, I’ll be fine if they draft Sam Bradford. He’s got intelligence, intangibles, and good, quick decision-making. But…
…the logic of picking a QB or skill-position stud based solely on the fact that they are “awesome” can’t single-handedly make us a better team. I’m sure Al Davis thought that drafting the super-fast Darrius Heyward-Bey last year, just like he thought it would be awesome to draft the strong-armed JaMarcus Russell two years before.
If we get Bradford, who’s the LT that will keep him off the ground? If we draft a stud RB, who’ll open lanes for him to run through? Like I said, I am fine with Bradford, but I would love to have a left tackle for 10 years as well.
Scribble
We have been discussing this for weeks in case Bradford is drafted by us.
1.) Gaither(from Ravens) Trade – Give up a second and a player for the 23yr old stud LT
2.) Draft a 2nd rd LT
a. Charles Brown USC
b. Vlad Ducasse UMass
c. Roger Saffold Indiana
You can't give up a 2nd
& a player for Gaither & then still have the 2nd rd. pick to use on a LT, we only have one & if we plan on trading JC for a 2nd then are we just going to throw Bradford in to the game his rookie year?? I agree with you Tiller, Bradford MIGHT be a really good, possibly HOF QB, his release looks like Dan Marinos & he is everything that we would want in a QB but we still should be smart & wait on a QB. Next year there will be the next crop of stud can’t miss QBs that we could go after but this year we should concentrate on fixing our offensive line. Whether you like, love or hate JC, no QB will be anything other than a guy in a very dirty Redskins uniform until we get some people that can block
He definitely does look good
But I want to see how he does under pressure and in most of the highlights it looked like he had all day to throw and the receiver was WIDE open
Thats because he can find the open receiver, thats the QB's job.
WR’s are always open in college, some QB’s can find them, some can’t.
True but I mean like miles away from the defender wide open.
I’d still like to see some clips of how he handles pressure, and some more difficult throws as well.
Highlights are called that for a reason
its a selection of all his best stuff
not saying anything against the kid, I just think that I have heard a lot of Question marks about him, whereas Okung is a solid gold stud, And JC deserves a chance to show the Shannys what he can do,
If Shanahan decideds to use the 4th pick on him, then I will trust his judgement (as he knows infinitely more than me) but I do not like the idea of mortaging our future by trading up to get him, when we can take a stud OT and wait one year for Locker who is seen as a stud, (see my Long Term Planning post for my idea of how Locker can be got by us)
Not saying I dont think Bradford is any good, frankly I dont know, but I hate trading up in the 1st round for a QB with so many question marks, it just costs too much for a team with holes to fill, and in desperate need of all the picks we can get.
Still thanks for the Vid, he does look good, but I fear you are wasting your time, I try to keep an open mind, but the likes of LJP are just going to bombard you with a bunch of LOL’s and other captial letter driven diatribes, without even ackowledging any of the kids obvious talents.
Like I say I am happy with whatever the Shannys do, other than trading up, but I hope they go Okung, I really do
Pommylee
Pomm, Sam Bradford LOL, LOL, LOL What the H. ? Why in the H? LOL, LOL, LOL Ok he has good speed, throws a nice ball. He has a problem locking onto his primary receiver early, just about everytime passes the ball. He will be a interception
For those that don’t believe LJP go back and watch the video again. The only time he does not lock onto his primary receiver is if he is under pressure. If he is not under pressure. He stares them down as soon as they leave the line of scrimmage.

absolute proof at lastq
that you do not read peoples posts.
If youhad you would have seen that I definitively said that I DID NOT THINK WE SHOULD PICK HIM.
However I did say that I would trust Shanahands judgement, which strangely enough, due to you know things like a lifetime of work in the NFL and Superbowl rings, I tend to trust a little bit more than yours

He comes up with his arguments before even watching a player.
Like how Gerhart is so special because he has strong legs…

LJP
You obviously don’t know a thing when it comes to scouting a QB. I have seen this kid play so many times, and thats the one thing he doesn’t do.
Maybe you should go watch some more video on him before you make a stupid comment like that.

is the injury not enough?
When, in any of the workouts, have they aloud him to get tackled by a 330 lb. D-lineman, or even a 250 lb. linebacker who runs a 4.5 40? Until I see him do that without remaining on the ground, I will not be convinced of his NFL viability.
pretty much agree with all this
SpottieOttieDopaliscious
mainly the injury
and I could be wrong here, but it is my understanding he has spent very little time under centre, played the spread system (all modern college QBs get this criticism I know) but more just that unlike say Peyton Manning (high level to mark against I know) he is not seen as a cant miss prospect, where from everything i have read he is not rated as highly as Locker
So I just think when you already have a competent QB in Campbell, and a top notch guy is coming out the next year, and you are in a position to maybe do some trades to get a high first round pick next year, you may be better waiting, and DEFINITLY NOT TRADE UP TO GET HIM, and sacrifice the chance to get the line to protect him
Saying all of that though Shanahan knows a lot more about football than me, so if he takes him at 4 I’ll be ok though not thrilled with it.,
It just seems to me we can get Okung who is seen as a guaranteed stud to anchor the line for a decade, and if Campbell doesnt work out, have a crack at Locker next year.
Not criticising the guy at all though, just saying what i have heard
Pommylee
Surprisingly, he's spent a lot more time under center than people tend to say.
If you’ve heard Mike Mayock talk about him, he makes a point of mentioning that every time. He’s played a lot more pro-style offense than the other prospects (excl. Clausen).
I was just about to reply the same thing
not to mention the offense Stoops runs is very complicated. I do believe he is far ahead of Locker. Locker, while I like his potential, is very raw, and will need time to develop. FWIW, I am a pretty big fan of both Ryan Mallett and Pat Devlin over Locker. JMO though.
I definitly understand the concern about the injury, and it is a concern I share as well.
i want highlight films that show highlights, not touchdowns
This is mostly useless. Was that, like, every touchdown he threw against Chatanooga and Texas A&M? Gosh.

While I'm not saying
that Bradford will not be a good QB, this reel does nothing for me. First of all, you could probably put together a highlight reel of Jason Campbell’s college years, or even Colt Brennan’s, that would be just as impressive. Highlight tapes just don’t do much for me. What concerns me more is what I DIDN’T see. I DIDN’T see him operating under any real pressure, which he will see lots of here, especially if we forgo drafting a tackle to get him. I also didn’t see him actually account for most of his yards. His receivers were so much faster than their competition that they gained most of their yards after the catch. And, lastly, what concerns me the most about Bradford is the main thing I DIDN’T see – highlights from 2009.
Try watching him in 2007; his redshirted freshmen year.
If you don’t come away impressed with that, than I don’t know what to tell you.
I’m not just saying this for arguements sake, but for all the time I’ve spent watching, and scouting college football, I’ve never seen a player as a freshmen have such great command of an offense as Bradford had.
All I ask is that you look into it more before making a judgement. If you still disagree with me, thats fine. i just feel(and I am in no way singling you out Hutch) that some people are quick to jump to conclusions instead of making their own decisions based on actual game situations, simply because they don’t believe we need a better QB.
I really like and respect your football knowledge. Certain guys won’t take the time, or just don’t care enough to look into things like this. This is why I posted this clip for them to see. I just want everyone to see this objectively before jumping to a decision. LJP for instance, will only see what he wants to see when watching something like this, which is evident in some of his earlier comments.
I know you know your shit when it comes to football. It come out in your posts and opinions. This is why I like to discuss these kind of topics with fans like yourself.
Boy, you sure lay it on thick
It’s cool though, I can never take enough praise.
Seriously though, like I said, I am not saying he’s not gonna be good. I actually felt he coulda gone #1 if he would’ve come out last year. And, in retrospect, maybe he should have. What concerns me the most about him is his injury history, and the fact that he hasn’t taken a hit since his last injury. You just don’t know what you’re getting – he could be just fine, a la Drew Brees, or he could turn out to never be the same, a la Tim Couch.
Anyway, like Pommy said, I will have complete faith in whomever Shanny picks (except Berry). But, if he does choose to go QB, I hope like hell there is a viable starting option at left tackle in the 2nd.
Now, as for LJP, I wouldn’t worry too much about him. He’s a nutcase who definitely has a picture of Campbell on his ceiling. And, now that his man crush on Josh Cribbs went unfulfilled, he has more time to become even more consumed with all things Jason Campbell. Sometimes I wonder if he is that guy who sneaks into the locker room to steal JC’s jockstrap. Now, on the other hand, I think that if you can look past all the intimate feelings he has for Campbell, the guy actually does know a thing or two about football. What’s funny is, if we DO end up getting Bradford (or even Claussen), I’d be willing to bet that he’d be 1 on THAT guys fan club when (or if) they secured the #1 spot.
Truthfully
I hope we re-sign JC to a 3-4 year extension. I just don’t see any signs of that happening now(I hope I’m wrong though). If this happens I’m on the Okung bandwagon for sure. If the Lions snag him at #2, I would take Trent Williams.
If we do go QB in the 1st, Brown, Saffold or Ducasse could be nice LT options in the second.
I too am putting complete faith in the staff and whichever direction they decide to go.
Do you mean
he would no long be LJP? He might have identity problems.

What do you mean sidestepping the pass rush?
This is a 6 minute video that shows 3 minutes of endzone celebrations, 2 minutes of playing pitch and catch with open receivers and no passrush, and 1 minute of strikes through coverage, also with no pass rush.
Nice ball, quick release, good accuracy… but who makes these things??? Do they make highlight reels for kickers, too? Like, I’m seeing maybe 4 minutes of bum slaps and helmet bonks to go along with 30 seconds worth of extra point kicks…
One thing I do agree with you on, he does a great job looking off the coverage. You can credit him with plenty of those wide open receivers.
Highlight videos are what they are
one things for sure, he can throw one helluva good ball. You also gotta admit he’s a pretty good athlete as well.
He has certainly put on some good weight
and made himself much stronger. I imagine that weight could drop to around 230 during the season.
When his shoulder falls off? :)
Just kidding. If there is a QB out there for this team, this year, it’s Bradford. But going for a QB just screws us this year more than helps unless we get the next Manning – not likely.
Time flies like an arrow. Fruit flies like a banana.
We will hope he survives a year or two
while we build an OLine. More risk given his injury history.
