Colt McCoy anyone?
This question is mainly aimed at those who follow college football a great deal, because I do not. Most of you already know that I am in the camp of focusing on the O-line but with so much QB talk going on I can't help but ask this question. How come I'm not hearing Colt McCoy's name floating around? I compared McCoy, Clausen, and Bradfords career stats and McCoys looks just as good as the other two and he has an extra year over them. What is it about him that is making him be projected as a second rounder instead of a first, even though of course that could change.

I like
McCoy over Clausen, but only if he is there in the second.
mc coy over clausen but not lefvevour .
i would take mccoy over clausen in a heartbeat but lefvevour is going to be good i just feel it.
Shanahan has spent a lot of time looking at Colt
It is very possible he drafts him 2nd round.

Not a big fan of McCoy
Aside from the intangibles. If Tebow wasn’t a spread quarterback, I’d take him before McCoy because of intangibles alone. McCoy is a winner, accurate, and mobile, but his arm strength is not great at all and he is not a big guy. I honestly still think I’d take Tebow in the 2nd round and up instead of McCoy (I just wouldn’t take Tebow BEFORE McCoy is off the board) because Tebow is a pure winner. He is clutch, a leader, a thick guy with speed, smart. There isn’t much I don’t like about Tebow except the spread offense, everything else is easily workable. McCoy’s smaller frame and arm strength is a legitimate concern to me.
I would liken McCoy to Chad Pennington
He really doesn’t have the arm strength to be elite, but if he gets with the right team, he could be successful.
Yes
He athletic enough to avoid the rush and slide nicely in the pocket. He also makes up for his height with a very high release point. He also has shown good ability to throw on the run when he rolls to his left or right, and I know Shanny is a fan of moving the pocket, and having his QB outside the tackle box.
Only thing is that Shanny has had that big-armed QB in the past(Elway, Cutler). This guy doesn’t even come close to them in arm strength. Even Jake Plumber had a much stronger arm. McCoy could be better served playing for a dome team.
So it's mainly his arm strength that seems to be holding him back?
I’m sure thats something that can be worked on with a good strength and conditioning program.
chad got decapicated for the arm & still produced

MCCOY...
Love him in the second, would be an excellent pick. Mature, leader, athletic and accurate as hell. What’s not to like about the kid??…..Okung in the first…Mccoy in the 2nd….let’s go Shannaplan….
Here is the thing...
Several teams need a QB Seattle, Rams, possibly Cleveland and even the Panthers since they might still have questions about Matt Moore. I think they might be gone by the time it is our turn to pick. It all depends on what they see on the pro day from those guys. I will have to quess until then since it is unpredictable how other teams react to the performance of the pro day.
Seattle is my hope
Seattle can make the Redskins make an excellent move, and put Allen/Shanahan on a pedestal by trading back.
Seattle, switch places with the Redskins to get Bradford or Clausen, Redskins pickup an extra second rounder. Seattle has 2 first round picks this year, they can afford to swap one and give up their second.
Based on what?
Skill set?
Leadership?
performance?
What, just another throw a stupid statement out by LJP
Who did Colt play for? Do you even know in your world! Alice in Wonderland is not real by the way.
Next you'll be saying get rid of Landry
because he’s the worse tackling safety on the team
Oh, Crap you already did, but it seems Reed is ranked as missing more tackles…Go figure a biased statement which does not hold water…again!
dr, biased againts what? Who? Chris Horton is the best safety on the team when healthy. He is a mix of Landry and Doughty.
Landry still sucks as a tackler. He spends to much time “smelling himself.” Laron could be brothers with ARE. They both are in denial about their poor play last year.

Seeing as how Landry just tries too hard to make the pig play I don't think we can effectively judge his tackling
I’m sure the new coaches will get on him about not wrapping up unless he knows for a fact he is going to make the hit.
My two cents on Bradford vs McCoy, and Okung vs 2nd rd LT
I like Bradford over McCoy, so secret here. If QB is going to be selected somewhere in the first 2 picks, here is my reasoning for Bradford(in the fist) over McCoy(in the 2nd).
This also takes into account the O-line scenerio. Bradford has all the intangibles you look for in a QB. Great size, 6-4 236lbs, above average arm strength, incredible accuracy, good leadership, and super smart. He can make every NFL throw, he is a super athlete, and has played in a pro style offense in his redshirted freshmen year(and did very well too). McCoy on the other hand doesn’t have ideal NFL size, only 6-1 218, has below average arm strength, and has never played in a pro style offense(Texas runs a true spread). He is extermely accurate however, and this makes up for his lack of arm strength. He aslo shows good athleticism. I would give a significant egde to Bradford.
As for LT, Okung has been a 4 year starter, and team captain. He has adaquate NFL size at 6-5 306, and moves his feet very well for a big man. He isn’t the fastest LT, but his speed is more than enough to be able to handle the position. He has elcellent strength to go along with those long arms(38 reps at 225). He may have hit his celing on his ability, but either way, he should be a solid NFL starter from day 1, and a border-line prow-bowl calibur LT(I say border line, because I don’t quite see him in the same catagory as Joe Thomas, or Ryan Clady when they came into the NFL). As a second RD LT option I really like Charles Brown from USC. He is a boarder-line late first, early second rd prospect. He was a 3 year started for USC, 1 year at RT and the other 2 at LT. He has good size at 6-5 302, but there are some concerns on his weight as to see if he can maintain 300 plus pounds during the season. He has great feet, long arms, and is extremely athletic for a OT(he was originally a TE). He shows great ability to pull around the edge and lead a toss, and the ability to punch the DT and get to the second level LB’s on the inside run. there are some questions on his strength, but these can be addresses with an NFL strength plan. I give the overall advantage to Okung, but only by a slight margin.
This is where I see the differences become more pronounced. If we need a QB, then Bradford is pretty far ahead of any 2nd rounder we can pick. If we need a LT, we can get close to 1st rd talent in the 2nd rd.
Hope this helps.
Personally, I would not draft McCoy.
He is a winner and has great numbers, but his skill-set does not translate well to the NFL. The Mack Brown spread offense exploited his strengthes and covered up his weaknesses. His arm strength, size, and system he played under make him a high bust candidate. He would be a Chad Pennington, Jeff Garcia type who could be a starter in a dink-n-dunk west coast style offense. The system would need to be catered to his game.
Not being able to throw the deep ball and deep outs is a ‘QB killer’ in the league now. Defenders are too fast and if they don’t respect the deep ball, you’re in big trouble.
If the choice is Campbell or McCoy for the next 5-6 years, stay with Campbell and draft a different position.
IMO, If you are going QB, take 1 of the top 2. If not skip the position this year.
If you really want to develope a QB 2 years from now, I would take 1 of these 3:
Tony Pike has similar concerns with his size, but has a much better arm.
Jarrett Brown has perfect size, athletic ability and arm, but needs to develope.
Tim Tebow also has much higher upside, but needs to work on his release.
I've said this 3 months ago
in my 3 different offseason scenarios. One which suggested trading Cooley for a 2nd rounder and another trading Landry for a first. In these situations we could pick up a LT and Mcoy. About Mcoy… I really feel like he is “it” and the best qb in the draft. How did he slide to the 2nd round i dont know. But I do know this dude is deadly accurate and I mean Peyton Manning accurate (yea I said it, Peyton Manning). Thats a skill that can’t be taught. About him having a weak arm…I dont think so. Point blank I stronglt beleive Mcoy is the truth!

Johnny made a good point earlier
that QB’s who lack the ability to make all the throws at the NFL level are going to struggle. McCoy, I feel, falls into this catagory.
Based on a lot of what I have read and heard about him I would agree.
Except for the skill can’t be taught thing. You have to learn from somewhere. But with all of the positivity that I have heard about him I just couldn’t understand why he isn’t at least a late first round projection. But we will have to wait and see when he goes.
Who says that Mcoy cant make all the throws
if you ask me, its the other way around. Qb’s on the collegiate level that can so called make all the throws tend to struggle in every other category like accuracy. The best qb’s coming out of college, like drew brees are usually underestimated because of there arm strength

To be fair, the top QBs have not had their Pro-Days yet.
They all test at the end of the month, and that will be the final barometer for true rankings.
It’s possible that Bradford or Claussen could disappoint with their throws, and McCoy could throw much better than expected. That would jumble the final rankings.
Based on 3 years worth of film, scouts should have a solid understanding of a quarterback’s abilities. Still, until the coaches and GMs actually witness a ‘live’ test, the final verdicts are not in. By the 1st week of April, we will know what the coaches saw, and have a clearer idea of where everyone is.
QB play is also system specific, so 1 QB that is 2nd or 3rd on one team’s board could be 1st on another’s. But if a QB cannot make all the pro-tree throws, he likely will be ranked substantially lower.
Fuck everyone and draft Spiller #4
I’ve bben drinking since long time.
