With the new format for the Draft
(1st Rd on a night, followed by rounds 2 and 3 the following day)
all the talk has been about how valuable St Louis 2nd Rd pick will be as all the teams will have time to adjust their Draft Boards overnight and be desperate to move up, to get that player that they didnt expect to drop out of the 1st round.
Following this logic, surely the 4th pick of the 2nd day (i.e The Skins Pick 36) should be more valuable than the usual 2nd Round pick also, if as we wake up that morning, we see a bunch of players we would be happy to have at that point, what would you be prepared to give up that 36th pick for.
For Instance, if someone was desperate to get Jimmy Clausen and he was there, and we had decided to stick with Campbell, would it be worth risking missing Beadles or another top ranked guard, to trade down for 2 second rd picks, lets say picks 49 and 53 to pick up a solid LB and a Guard at that point.
I know a lot of this is speculative as we have know idea who will be sitting there at that point, but seeing as we do not have a 3rd Rd pick, and our desperate need for Elite O-Line talent makes the 1st Rd pick untouchable, I really feel we should look strongly at trading down in the 2nd Round for either 2 Second Round picks, or a 2nd a 3rd and a 4, or a 2nd and two 4ths something like that, the reason being is that we have so many holes right now that we really need every pick to count, meaning we cant take a flyer in the mid rounds on a high risk high reward type player, someone from a small school with great stats, or a guy who blew everyone away at the Combine with his speed for instance, at the moment we cant take that risk, but if we can turn pick 36 into 3 picks between 40 and 100 or 2 picks between 40 and 60 then we have the freedom to take a risk with one pick
