no cap? why not?
i keep asking the question if there is not a salary cap this season (as every pundit has pretty much said there wont be) why not just put the word out to the players around the league that dan is willing to pay whatever it takes to get it done, its not a really good free agent class but if we can land almost all the quality ones because dan will just pay more why not... so i say we sign Sproles, Rolle, Dansby, Mawae.... the redsox and the yankees have an advantage over the rest of the league and use it every year, why not us as well hell even if its for one great year and then we just cut everybody next year, not like danny doesnt have more money than almost all the other owners especially the three in our division

Because when we cut them, their contracts are accelerated against our cap
even if its for one great year and then we just cut everybody next year
This isn’t how football works. Don’t you think that the NFL sees the potential for this to happen, and has taken steps to insure that it doesn’t?
We have to assume there will be a cap in 2011, and this year will....
count against it. I am all for signing free agents, but they have to be a part of the rebuilding process. I can see signing either a Dansby or Rolle long-term, but not both. Either one of them will solidify a position in need for the next 5 -6 years.
The redskins have always done this and it hasnt brought us success
Building through the draft ultimately wins championships. Steelers, Colts, Patriots are the premier franchises in the NFL because they have built through the draft.
hasnt it pretty much been declared by peter king and adam schefter said that if a cap goes away its never coming back

Exactly adam was on espn the other night talkin about that and he was saying if the cap does ever come back it will probably be a couple years to get it all strightened back out after this uncapped year so let’s go get as many super bowls as we can if dan wants to spend money like the yankees and redsox let him do it like he talked about when he bought the team. What’s wrong with being the envy of everyother team in the NFL just like the MLB.

No cap?
You guys serious? They said no cap? I thought that the teams liked it because of the maximum and the players liked it because of the minimum.
The team has to keep up with the Jones'es.
The Giants, Bears, Dolphins, Jets, Vikings, Seahawks, Buccaneers, Cowboys of course, and possibly the Eagles along several other teams have money to spend and will spend it to win.
I don’t think we’ll see any of those teams even the cowboys splurging like you all are talking about doing.
I would be shocked if the Giants, Eagles, Bears, Patriots, and Dolphins ....
don’t make a big splash this weekend. Dansby, Rolle, Peppers, Sproles should all be signed on friday. I also think we can expect multiple trades and RFA movement in the next 2 weeks.
The Eagles are looking hard at Peppers and Rolle. The Giants are looking hard at Dansby, The Bears, Dolphins, and Patriots are looking at everyone.
If the Skins don’t get in this game friday morning it might be over except for the scraps and leftovers.
4 titles and over 15 playoff appearences my goodness why would we want that

15 playoff appearences in one decade? Makes sense.
You’re talking about bringing in big named players that want to get paid. You’re talking about bringing in greedy, non-loyal, locker room cancer type players, Me ME ME ME ME ME.
Of course I want us to win, but if it comes at the sacrifice of this franchise’s image or character, no thanks. There’s already been enough damage to this franchise over the past 10 years, I thought we were trying to change things around here? We would become everything that people hate.
And I’m pretty sure we wouldn’t be pulling in the playoff wins or titles like the yankees, football is a different sport, you need chemistry, heart, and determined players that are hungry for it. Thats not something you get by bringing in every big name on the market. Thats not something you can do in football with a big check and steroids.

Good summary of what the majority of fans
really feel and care about this franchise – I hope! What made the Gibbs era so especially cool was that Gibbs and the team would not only kick your ass, but they would do it with style and class. It was like an honer to have Joe Jacoby’s cleat marks imprinted on your chest, even if all you could say at the end of the day was that you survived. :)
Time flies like an arrow. Fruit flies like a banana.
The team should sign at least one of the big guns.
Hopefully Dansby, but Rolle will be ok to. Can’t let the other division teams get markedly better while we stand pat.
and of the owners in the league danny, kraft, and blank are the only ones that can play it the yankees/sox way

They might have more cash but dannys the olny one that would spend everything on this to get the trophy he’s already said he would do it.

yes there might be nine that have more but you have to eliminate
all of those whose sole business or income is the team ie Jerry Jones, Al Davis, the Mara’s,… also owners that are part of an ownership group this elimantes the groups that own the rams, Texans, etc…. so that leaves Paul Allen, Bob Kraft, Arthur Blanc,…… also all the final 8 teams can’t sign free agents so there goes the colts, saints, cowboys etc

Really?
Final 8 teams can’t sign FA’s? I had no idea…
Time flies like an arrow. Fruit flies like a banana.
"... there will be a "Final 8" rule in 2010. Futher explanation.
The rule will restrict the final eight teams in the playoffs from signing free agents. The final four teams shall not be permitted to negotiate and sign any unrestricted free agent to a player contract except for players who acquired their status by being cut or were on the final four team when their contract expired. Playoff teams five thru eight get a break to sign one player with a salary of $4,925,000 or more and any number of players with a first-year salary of no more than $3,275,000 and an annual increase of no more than 30 percent in the following years.
There is a mechanism to permit the final eight teams to sign an unrestricted free agent for each one of their own unrestricted free agents who sign with another club as long as they don’t spend more than what their own lost player received from his new club"

Geez, even Madden is confused...
How hard do they need to make this sport, anyway?

I feel like I should be offended by what you just said

Rules, rules, rules!
I have a little disestablishmentarianism in me. They (ownership/players assoc.) seem to make things real hard on themselves and the rest of us. :)
Time flies like an arrow. Fruit flies like a banana.
And it's Christmas Eve
which has my mind boggling at the prospects.
Then again, what if they just draft Okung at #4, an RT at rnd 2, Montario Hardesty at round 4, and 2 Olinemen in final rounds. Then, no one bites on our tenders (makes an offer on one of our players who was tendered as an RFA – just to clarify), and we pick up Dansby and Bodden in FA. Then Brandon Minor makes it to locals camp and makes the squad.
I’m pretty much a happy dude at this point. Especially, cuz no one bites on our tenders. Then again, if someone picks up Carlos and we get Graham or Donnovan Warren on the squad, I’m even happier.
Time flies like an arrow. Fruit flies like a banana.
actually if there is no pay cap the FA list dwindles
the FA rules will change and those that would be FA would have to wait 2 more years before they are actually on the UnRes FA list. The new rules would only allow individuals with 6 years under their belts to enter the list. otherwise they are still restricted.
Plus it will not help us rebuild. It would give us only one year to do something with. next year there will either be a pay cap or a lock out. we ould be forced to dump the costly players and have to start rebuilding again. It would hurt us more in the long run to aquire many high dollar talent.
