QB Jason Campbell. Love him or Hate him?

This Blog is mainly for the Poll but you may respond if you like. I am just trying to get a feel as to what people think about OUR QB. Again, you do not have to respond. I would hate for you to be attacked by anyone for your opinions. In my opionion he should be kept until the rest of the team is built up and we can afford a draft pick on a QB.

I think Jason is

our surest bet in the mid-term. Does not mean we shouldn’t draft a QB who has potential; just not this year when our needs in other areas are too critical. Down the road, bring in guys and plan on a transition when it makes sense while we continue to build our lines, bring in game changers, and add depth overall.

That sounds like.....
I just dont understand why some here feel that he is going to somehow become a legend.

you are using the wrong word….“some” should be one!!! LJP is the ONLY guy that thinks JC is a legend. I think most of the rest feel he is serviceable and our best option right now. I said I think we should keep him until we are in a better position to find a replacement. I think we need to get the line built up…..get a speed back in and shore up that defense (FS mainly) and whatever else we need for a 3-4! Then….we can look at a replacement. I am a big JC fan…..but have wet dreams of Locker being here next year!!!

Not sure if that was by design, an accident or subliminal messaging,

but the article about whether or not to keep Campbell as QB had a picture of Bradford prominently displayed?
The article does state that the team should keep Campbell, but they probably should have put up a picture of JC to drive home the point.

by johnnydee83 on Feb 9, 2010 4:23 PM EST up reply actions

what that article did not cover

INTs, lost Fumbles, bad passes, dropped snaps,How about completions before the 4th quarter before the other team goes into prevent D. If you are going to make a scientific model to prove someones QB rating everything has to be included. You dont get to pick what goes into it.

I voted mixed feelings.

Big surprise as I have posted many times how I am on the fence about him.

The reason I feel we need to shit or get off the pot now with JC is because A.) there is a good young QB in this years draft(Bradford) that could turn out to be special, and who knows when we will be picking again this high in the draft, and B.) I haven’t seen certain intangibles with JC that I like to see from a team leader(ie. leadership, 4th qtr comeback wins).

I think we can be competitive with JC if the right pieces are around him, but to take it to the next level, we may need someone else for the future.

Isn't that something that could actually be said for almost anyone?

We don’t know how anyone translates to the NFL until we actually see what they can do. Anyone could turn out to be special.

by BrandonO on Feb 10, 2010 4:20 AM EST up reply actions

Not really.

Most scouts know what to look for when they evulate NFL talent. There is a reason Bradford was projected to be the #1 QB drafted had he entered the draft after his RS soph year. Even the semi-casual fan can look at a college QB and say, wow, that kids got NFL potential. Now I will agree, it’s a crap-shoot to actually say how they will do once they get into the NFL. There are so many factors that come into play. Take for example Jamarcus Russell. Has all the potential in the world physically, but needs help mentally, and the Raiders were the wrong place to go to get that help.

by Tiller56 on Feb 10, 2010 9:38 AM EST up reply actions

I know the scouts for the most part know what to look for, but you kind of hit the nail on the head for what I was aiming for

Jamarcus Russell is a great example. As you said he has all the physical potential yet he blows with the Raiders. But he could end up developing into a star QB on another team. The supporting cast around players can have a huge effect on a players performance. We all know that a player can do wonders for one team but then can sometimes look lost on another.

by BrandonO on Feb 11, 2010 12:39 AM EST up reply actions

Exactly

To take it to the next level we need to take a risk and make a change.

to be just really good friends and decide to see other people?

A First Round Pick

should have already answered these questions before the end of his Rookie contract

by terpsez11 on Feb 10, 2010 7:02 AM EST reply actions

Keep him...

He is our best option right now. Even with a terrible line he put up decent numbers. I would like to see us get my man from MN in the draft. He has a lot of talent and upside to him. And shannahan has a way of developing QB’s. But OL is the top priority along with LB depth and a young speedy RB. Need some new blood in ST too…ARE just needs to go or redo his contract. Whats gonna happen with Rogers? I say trade him. Not worth the money he will ask for. Sign Peppers though, if we dished out for Big Albert, then we should for JP. If we go to 3-4 he has said he wants to play OLB and rush off the edge.
