Congratulations to Greg Williams and the New Orlean Saints!

Wow, that was pretty impressive. Greg Williams figured out a game plan to keep Peyton Manning off balance and Sean Peyton with a masterfully called game to become World Champions.

Manning's coronation as the greatest QB ever will not take place this year,  as the 'other Peyton' shines brighter. This is a big loss for Manning, that 2nd ring is the great seperator.

My question is: What would have happened if Greg Williams was made the Redskin HC after Gibbs left? Would we be a playoff team? Would the nightmare and back sliding have happened with Williams?

Of course we would not have Shanahan and Allen and the #4 pick in the upcoming draft, but who knows how that will all turn out. I do know that we lost a heck of a good football coach, and the Saints are not Champions without him.

Congratulation again to Greg Williams, Sean Peyton and the New Orlean Saints! World Champions!

Congratulations to the city of   NEW ORLEANS

Congrats to Chase Daniel, too

Gets cut by the Redskins on one of the last cuts in the preseason and rides the pine on his way to a Super Bowl Championship.

Congrats to Pierson Prioleau, too.

Finally, congrats to Mark Brunell, who finally gets his ring.

That was an amazing game.

Onside kick to start the 2nd half. Take a chance on giving Manning the ball on the opposing 40 yd line down by 4. That takes guts.

by johnnydee83 on Feb 8, 2010 6:48 PM EST up reply actions

its not guts it was sensible

the way Manning had been driving down the field, starting from th INdy 30 or the NewOrleans 40 was a matter of one or two plays anyway, might as well take the risk, I loved the call, even if it had gone bad.

Plus going for it on 4th and 1 before the half was brilliant, it was a play that literally could not fail, even if you dont get the TD, you make Manning start from his endzone and he basically has to run.

Whereas if they had kicked a FG, then you give Manning the ball on his own 20 or 30 with 2 mins and 3 Timouts, basically a guaranteed TD, so really kicking the FG is a net minus 4 points.

Absolutely brillian coaching all around by Sean Payon, I know they cant do it, but he should have been the MVP

but hes not really

what odds would you have on Peyton not driving 70 yards anyway if hes gonna drive 40, I think its one or two plays difference,

I just thought it was genius

Yea it was.

Is he the new Belichick? They look set up for a good run.

The odds of success on an onside kick

are not good, but there was that element of surprise. It didn’t look like the Saints were lined up for an onside kick. It was also the first onside kick in the Super Bowl in the third quarter (or maybe not in the 4th quarter).

Just because.....

Greg Williams won a SuperBowl as a DC….does not mean he would have taken us there as a Head Coach. There are a handful of great assistants who get HC jobs every year……and generally…..they don’t last long. A few years and the next great thing comes along. For most of us…..we don’t know what the outcome may be…..but with Greg…..we already know. The Buffalo Bills. I am not taking away from his abilities as a DC…..he has always been great at coaching defense…….but that doesn’t necessarily make you a great head coach. The caveat to all of this is…..if Greg Williams was the Saints HC…..and Payton was the OC……I think maybe same outcome. Payton has an ability to get inside his players heads…..don’t know that Williams has that. As Skins fans….we can’t keep living in the past. I would have liked to seen Norv stay…..and Shottenheimer stay……doesn’t mean shit now! Congrats to Greg and the whole Saints organization though……long overdue and well deserved!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am still not sure

Norv Turner was not still on the Dallas payroll.

His success at Washignton was greatly diminished by a lack in wins over Dallas.

I agree....

that the lack of Dallas wins hurt him. But to think he was still a homer for the Boys is borderline nonsense. He wanted to be a head coach….period….and I am sure he wanted to be the Cowboys Head Coach. He knows the rivalry and I would think in his position…..he wanted to stomp the Boys as much as we did…….just bc he never got his shot there! Just my opinion though.

Yes, I understand and agree.

Just wondering what exactly happened when Gibbs stepped down. I thought Williams was groomed to take over. Gibbs, I thought, had control over decision making on his replacement. Never heard the full story on what happened.

It was the Golden Rule

He who has the gold, makes the rules. Williams is obviously a strong character type and wanted pretty much full autonomy to carry on after Gibbs (at least as much as Gibbs had). That didn’t sit well with the Snyderatto – I’m sure Williams kicked Vinnie to the curb many times and nicknamed him something like “little shit.” That probably didn’t help.

We’ll see if Williams parleys this win to a HC position and see how that goes. Probably a Rex Ryan style HC – lots of bluster and talk – but then backs most of it up.

Many congrats to this deserving organization.

My dad has been a lifelong (well, at least since they were established) Saints fan, so for years I have followed this team closer than any, other than the Redskins. I am quite thrilled for them today.

And Peyton Manning is still the best QB of all time; deep down, even the “haters” know it. Even though there were so many other factors in the Colts loss, however, yesterday surely didn’t help him shake the criticisms anytime soon.

But I am a little disappointed in our blog. For something that is christened as HOGS Haven, there has been no post about the most Redskins-relevant event of the weekend…the election of Russ Grimm to the Pro Football HOF – the first Hog to be enshrined!

There were

two fan posts. Thought that a bit redundant.

Ah...

I haven’t been around a computer lately; just been checking the mobile site on my Blackberry…can’t see those FanPosts here.

As a Saints fan

I love Gregg Williams as our D coordinator he is a very good aggressive guy and yes he has a big ego
The ego part is what makes him what he is thankfully Sean Payton can put his ego aside and give him complete control of the defense too many times head coaches think they know it all and are power hungry and threatened by their asst.
The game plan he came up with last night was spectacular he showed a vanilla defense in the first half so the Colts really had minimal adjustments to make
In the 3rd quarter he ahowed a little more and then threw everything but the kitchen sink at them in the 4th confusing Peyton
I hope Gregg is not picked for a head coaching job this year by someone but i do think he will be eventually given another chance
And I also believe his time spent with Sean Payton will help him to be a complete coach

I think he stays with the Saints at least another year

Don’t really see him taking a position with any of the teams needing a HC this year. He also seems like he likes the defense he’s building in NO so he’ll be there at least another year.

Congratulations to you! I am sure you are very proud after all these years.

I remember the ’Aints" days with the bags and empty stadium, Mora, and Ditka. They seemed like a cursed franchise, even Bush looked like a bust. Good for you guys, glad you won.
I really thought Peyton would win big, they started off so well, and the momentum looked unstoppable. I think they may have been a play away from getting blown out, but give Williams and Sean credit for hanging in there until mo switched.
