Since the turn of the century we have drafted only 1 RB.
When you mention the name Washington Redskins and NFC East, the first thing that comes to mind is the brand of smash mouth football that has been played around there parts for many years. I found this hard to believe for a team in the NFC East with such a heavy run history that we have drafted only 1 RB in the 2000's. That pick was Ladell Betts, who was a 2nd Rd pick from Iowa in the 2002 NFL draft.
It would be nice to see us get back to our roots, draft a stud RB, and ride that horse to the SuperBowl.
Thoughts?

Amazing is right
Think
Little to no offensive lineman

And the question is why can the Redskins not score points….go figure

Thank-you Jim Zorn For Ending Vinny’s run of stupidity
Never thought of it that way
Every cloud has it's silver lining
appropriate cliche pad.
Time flies like an arrow. Fruit flies like a banana.
Whats even worse is
that we have drafted a total of 8 OL since the turn of the century. We have only drafted 1 OL(Chris Samuels) in the 1st 2 rounds. Dock was the next highest drafted OL and he was taken in the 3rd.
Out of those 8 OL, 4 of them were OT’s. Only Samuels still remains with the team.
Nothing this team does
surprises me anymore. When you think of it, we have morphed into the Anti-Hogs since the glory days. Obvious formula for success – develop awesome OLine and big, fast backs to pound D into submission. Throw deep once they’ve forgotten we can pass.
Then we go a decade without building anything like that. Amazing!
Here’s another stat: Super Bowl teams were among the highest scoring teams in the league, including one year they scored the most points in one season in league history averaging something like 40 pts/game. Last year’s Anti-Hogs…not so much.
Do we need to change the name of this blog?
Time flies like an arrow. Fruit flies like a banana.
this is the bigger issue
and should have been the main point of this post IMHO
We have only drafted 1 OL(Chris Samuels) in the 1st 2 rounds
Smashmouth football starts with the line, not the back
Pommylee
Joe Jacoby was an undrafted free agent.
Yes, it’s prudent to place a premium on OLinemen and to grab the round 1 and 2 studs. But there are other paths to glory – as long as you are continuously working the issue.
Time flies like an arrow. Fruit flies like a banana.
In Comparison
During the 90’s we drafted a total of 15 OL. We drafted a total of 6 RB’s.

Drafting RBs
A surprising statistic. Of course, with CP and Ladell ensconsed at RB, there hasn’t been much need for quite awhile. Portis had an interview with lindsay Czarniak (NBC) today, and he sounded determined and confident. Said he always came to practice and meetings, but conceded that he may not have worked through injuries well enough at times. But he really likes Shanahan (very honest). Sounded great to me – like a guy who’s going to tear up the league this year.
Tiller I love your posts and all but your wrong right now
We have drafted two RB’s in Ladell Betts and Rock Cartwright, other then that yea I see the point of your post

Ouch,
not very faithful to Cribbs anymore? or was that you that made the article about Spiller?
Spiller is going to be amazing though.
travis, I talked about both of them. I would be happy with either one of them. We need a RB more so I would prefer Spiller.

I usualy disagree with you about J.Campbell, but I do agree with you about CJ Spiller
I think Campbell should be signed to a 1 yr. contract and then tenered,to see what we can get for him as far as draft picks.I believe we wasted way, too many years on Campbell. It is time for him to go,and their are teams that we give us draft picks for him,our future QB is in the draft,we might even draft 2 QBs,if we can pick up many picks.I do agree with you about RB CJ Spiller,he will be an incredible RB, that we can not afford to pass up.We could still trade down slightly, pick up a few picks and still get CJ Spiller.O-LINE will be taken care of in free agency, and we have already picked up OG K. Lichtensteiger, and we will pick up more of O-LINE in coming days.
No no no
we might even draft 2 QBs
Just by saying this you lose all potential credit with this post, not that it had much credibility anyway.

OL then RB
It’s real simple, an RB needs a decent OL so there’s no sense in drafting an RB with our current OL.
Is there an "All the Above" option for the poll?

Great post Tiller...
This is probably worth even flushing out more. I love how in 2003-4, the Skins had a total of 7 draft picks…ah, the glorious Spurrier era.

Those were the years
everyone, including Spurrier, went to Myrtle Beach to play golf on draft days.
