Ok, before you Toby Gerhart for Prez people start celebrating. Did you notice how, I did not say he was the best running back but the most important one. I would even go as far to say he could be more important to a team then Clinton Portis was to us. Ok, I hear some of you saying it now "what the hell are you talking about LJP". Let's take a quick look at what Portis really means to the Redskins. We can all agree that Portis had a good year in 2008 or do we. I say if you think about it his year was not really that good. He rushed for 1,487 yds and only 9 td's. Now lets look at Michael Turners stats from 2008 1,699 yds and 17 td's. Now, maybe some of the Portis fanatics understand what I am talking about. Portis rushed for alot of yards but scored very few times. I wonder why was this? Can anyone help me with a answer? Maybe it was because he was on the sideline taking a knee when we made it to the redzone. (after taking himself out) I have one better then that. Could it have been his legs were tired after carrying the ball multiple times, and he did not have the stamina to punch it in? This would have been ok, if we had a goal line back to punch it in but we did not. What stud (dud) running back takes himself out in the redzone? (Clinton Portis) Maybe, I am wrong and he only has one lung and nobody knows about it. But, he has to be one of the least in shape running backs to be his size that I have ever seen.
Now lets get back to Toby Gerhart. This guy has something that makes him stand apart from the average running back, he has abnormal leg strength. I know this guy can and will pick up the short yard or two that has cost us alot of games. How many games have we lost because we could not score from the goal line or we could not pick up a short yard on 3rd and 1 ? He may never be a 1,400 yd rusher but he will score over 9 td's for someone. He also is big and strong enough to play full back. So in LJP's humble opinion give me a running back that will get the short tuff yard and I can find any running back to pick up 1,000 yds. By the way 1,000 yd running backs are a dime a dozen nowadays, especially under Shanahan..
