Todd McShay's Team Needs: Redskins

Here is the new scouts inc. (by Todd McShay) teem needs reanking. Again, sorry, I could not link the page as it is insider, but here is the copy and pasted version for the Redskins.

McShay's take is a little different from the one I posted from Keiper a few weeks ago, but both acknowledge that OL and QB are are top 2 needs.

Star-divide

OG

Washington Redskins

Top needs:
1. OT: LT Chris Samuels will likely retire and RT Stephon Heyer is inconsistent at both OT spots -- but he is not terrible. He is a restricted free agent and will likely be tendered and given one more year to improve. Levi Jones is an unrestricted free agent and not the answer at LT.

2. QB: What does the new coaching staff do with Jason Campbell? His contract could be up, but is he a guy you give one more shot to? He has good physical skills, but his supporting cast and coaching continuity has always been suspect. It's a big decision for this franchise and new coach Mike Shanahan.

3. RB: Shanahan knows Clinton Portis well, but that doesn't guarantee anything. Portis looks like an "old" 29-year-old back with durability issues and a questionable work ethic. Backup LaDell Betts is 30 and is coming off of knee surgery -- this is not a real stable position right now.

Other needs: OG, C, CB, S

you noticed that too

I would say linebacker in general, we’re lacking some serious depth. And we’ll need even more if we go 3-4. ugh

The Kansas City thread at pick #5?

The fans there seem to have the same problem with a #5 pick that he Skins have with a #4. Suh, Berry, Clausen, Bradford, etc.

by Jefferson1935 on Feb 10, 2010 1:02 PM EST up reply actions

Yea, that's what the skins have to address.

What do they do with Campbell, and how do they go about rebuilding the O-line?
Next would be what direction is the defense going in?
Then the Portis and Rb question.
Those 4 questions have to be answered in FA and the draft.

by johnnydee83 on Feb 10, 2010 6:01 PM EST reply actions

thats why they call it mock draft .

last week they had okung as the 4th pick then i hear claussen now i hear bradford the way to go at #4 is okung but you dont know what shanny is thinking cause bradford is tempting stay away from claussen ..

by lohaus#54 on Feb 10, 2010 6:41 PM EST reply actions

I don't like Claussen either.

I want to see Okung at the combine. Bradford will be there, but won’t test fully on Dr’s orders.
The skins will keep us in the dark right up until Goodell annouces the pick.

I dont see how you call QB a "NEED" for the skins

Doesnt anyone understand the difference between wants and needs, you need food, you want a Big Mac

Its like that with Campbell, he is not a top 5 QB admittedly, but is not bottom 10 either, IMHO hes in that middle rung with the likes of Schaub, Henne/Pennington, Garrard (but better) and no one is suggesting Houston has a need at QB or Jacksonville.

Now you could want a better QB for sure, but that does not make it a need, its not like we have JaMarcus Russel back there

J.C. had an average year at best, but that might be pushing it,need new Francise QB in draft

Shanahan wants his own QB,TO WORK WITH,J.C had his chance, has wasted 5 yrs showing what he can do,Shanahan wants to draft QB that has potential, and he will draft him.

He had a horrible year.

I mean he was pressured all the time. He should be a better blocker
His receivers were unreliable in their routes and dropped many catchable balls. He should be a better receiver.
The Defense gave up many game winning plays and never stood up to the challange. I mean JASON CAMPBELL gave up a 99 yard drive to the Detroit Lions. He is a HORRIBLE DT/DE/LB/CB/FS/SS.
And dont get me started on his running game. The redskins were embarrassing to say the least. Jason Campbell should be a better runningbcak.
He is also a HORRIBLE COACH. I mean he was completely inexperienced and couldn’t discipline anyone.
But by far he was the worst GM on the face of the planet. He was completely inept at creating a team.
JASON CAMPBELL IS THE WORST FOOTBALL PLAYER EVER!!!
lol

Orakpo!!! Russel Okung next year!

Todd McShay is one of the most respected scouts in the business.

He has information that 99.9% of us don’t have. He is not always right, but he is always respected. If he says it, you can bet a lot of GMs, HCs and professional scouts are saying it to.

Yeah but his mocks are based on what he thinks the team should do, not what they will do.

So they are not extremely reliable. Mel Kiper(I dont really like him) mocks drafts on what he thinks teams will do. He is more reliable, especially when he thinks a team will draft a QB.

I agree on what you say about McShay, but

I think he is better than Kiper. McShay’s new mock is out there, but I think he is just trying to stir something up to get new subscribers for his service.

Yea. it is time to see what they have.

Hopefully, they are not just nickle & dime guys only. If so, then time for an upgrade.

Top Needs

Our real needs are LT, RT, RG, FS, OLB, RB and then maybe QB. Anyone who thinks 1 LT is going to fix our OL is delusional.

by aFan4Life on Feb 11, 2010 2:15 PM EST reply actions

I agree, there are 14 positions that have to be addressed and replaced.....

by next year, not including QB. This is a multi year project any way you slice it.

Weapons

JC can do it, I think he just needs a little help. How about drafting two clemson tigers that would’nt only help us on offense but also on special teams. JACOBY FORD AND CJ SPILLER, Cj runs almost like Adrian Peterson and he can catch the ball. We do not need to trade away our picks , get CJ !

by RyanDblock21 on Feb 12, 2010 1:39 PM EST reply actions

I don't think the comparison....

of CJ to AP is right. CJ is more of a Chris Johnson type. Peterson can run you over…..CJ isn’t running over anyone…but he sure as hell can run around them!

by shvd98z24 on Feb 12, 2010 8:36 PM EST up reply actions

CJ is a 1st rounder, but not at 4.

Ford possibly later, but they have to get linemen.
