Our Future at the Running Back position
I don't know about you guys but i think that we are set at running back so why wast a draft pick, or sign a veteran running back while we have Ryan Torain, Keiland Williams, and James Davis. These three running back's have been having a good season ,and thats with our bad offensive line with the exception of Trent Williams, and Jammal Brown, and Stephon Heyer. Just the taught of us having a beater offensive line with them gives me goosebumps, image the big numbers they would get with a beater offensive line. I still cant believe we didn't even need to draft them with a 1st round pick or anything. I don't know about you guys, but i think we don't need to sign any running backs, or draft any. If you use our draft picks correctly on offensive linemen, and sign 2 or 3 descent offensive linemen we would have a season like Chris Johnson had maybe even beater.

I don't wanna be a dick here
but I hope you’re kidding. That is probably the worst RB corps in the league. Williams is slow and doesn’t do anything great. Sure he’s okay at everything but honestly he wouldn’t make the roster of half the teams in this league. Davis showed some spark the other day but we have seen him touch the ball only about 10 times and even if we do see more of him these next 4 games and he plays decent I wouldn’t even pencil him in as a definite member of the team next year. I liked Torain when he was playing, he runs hard, breaks tackles and shows good instincts, but I don’t see him being effective unless he is a complement back. Not to mention he is really injury prone. Williams is basically a mini Torain and Davis seems kind of similar to these two. The team desperately needs a homerun threat and we have needed it for years. Portis never really was a home run threat, and our backups never were either . If more than 1 of these guys between Williams, Davis, and Torain make the team we are in trouble, unless we keep 4 rb’s then MAYBE i could see Davis and Torain making it.
RB is definitely a position that must be addressed in the draft. If we can trade down from our #1 pick and pick up an extra 2nd rounder I would be tempted to take a RB with our last 2nd rd pick. I’ve said it before but a guy like Demarco Murray from oklahoma would do wonders for our offense. He is a homerun threat who is also a great pass catcher, hopefully we get a shot at him.
a high draft pick on a rb = ur crazay

Davis is the best of the 3 IMO
I would keep Davis, and give him a shot at starting. He has good speed(don’t know if I’d consider him break away, but it’s better than average), great hands(see his days at Clemson), and can run with both wiggle and power. You could easliy see his burst the other week, eventhough he didn’t have much room. I’d also keep Williams as a change of pace guy. He runs hard, and has a nose for the end zone.
Torain would be the guy I let go. I’m very nervous about his injury history. The guy just can’t stay healthy.

Tiller ?? Come on man !! Letting go of Torain would be crazy. We need to bring in a true # 1 back. Keep Torain as our goal line back and use James Davis for a little bit of everything.
Whoever we bring in as a #1 should be able to do everything K. Williams does but a lot better. He is a Jack of all trades but is a master of none. He blocks a little, runs a little and has a very little amount of speed.

Tiller, Torain might not have the durability to be a everydown back. He makes a good short yardage one.

IDK my man
you and I have spoke on here about our desire to have a break away back. Davis is much closer to that than Torain. I guess the thing I’m afraid of about Troain is the injuries.
As for a goal line back, Williams is pretty good in that role.

IMO it's a pretty mediocre RB corps, but a decent or good OL can make average RBs look great

the obvious hasn't been pointed out
i’m for keeping torain and j. davis, but we need a change of pace/speed back. k. williams being the answer is not an option. a low draft pick on a speed back that we can teach to block is the best way to go, in my opinion.

we def don’t need to use a 1st round pick on a running back. low draft pick could be OK, but they better address O-line early in the draft. It’s clear the one thing Shanahan is still able to do is get production out of most running backs, and there’s always low rounders, undrafted FAs and practice squad guys out there that can turn into good running backs, given they have good o-lines. The absolute most important thing right now is to get super-young on the o-line, and deeper on defense. Those things are the foundation, with a good foundation, it’s easier for skill players to excel.
a life: it's the shit that happens while you're waiting for moments that never come -Lester Freamon
I think higher than Running Back right now is WR
The priority goes as followed:
1) A Nose Tackle because there seems to be a pressing need to shore up the Run Defense right now.
2) A Guard/Center since there are no O-Linemen talented enough to go in the first round.
3) Wide Receiver with breakaway speed because more than anything on offense besides the line we need someone with that quality our run game can work with an above average line. Most likely in the middle rounds if we can manage to get a pick at that position because Mike Williams in Tampa was a 4th rounder.
4) An Inside Linebacker/Outside Linebacker due to the lack of good Run Defense/Pass Rush.
5) Free Safety/Cornerback to help the pass defense plus Carlos Rogers will most likely leave.
6) Running Back with breakaway speed.
So In all honesty it’s not the most pressing need right now, but if we can get a guy in the later rounds with tremendous upside as Shanahan has done in the past I’m all for it.

We've already talked about finding a Nose Tackle in the first round
aint gonna happen. Prob wont happen with a C or G either, as there is not one that is going to get selected that high.
WR, for the value in the 1st is still our best bet.
Unless of course we can trade back to the mid or end of the first and get another 2nd and a 3rd. Then all options are open.
If we stay put where we are most likely to be drafting(8-12), don’t expect a NT or a C/G.

Don't know college talent that well
So IMO if their isn’t a C or G good enough for that pick I say trade back cuz we could use an extra pick. Sounds like a smart move even though WR definately needs an upgrade.(As well as 3/4 of the team)

Isn’t Marcell Dareus a monster of a DT, I thought ‘Bama played the 3-4?
Yeah, I’m very sure we’re going to trade down for a late 1st and 3rd Round pick.
by TerpsAllTheWay on Dec 10, 2010 8:20 PM EST up reply actions
Bama does play the 3-4
but Dareus isn’t a NT. He’s a DE in their 3-4. He will prob be drafted as a 4-3 defensive tackle ala Suh.

Yeah you're right.
We could take the Nose Tackle from Stanford in the 2nd Round.
by TerpsAllTheWay on Dec 10, 2010 10:25 PM EST up reply actions
I don't think the Stanford kid goes that high
Fairley from Auburn could transition to NT, but he should be a top 10-15 selection. Again, even his best position would likely be a 4-3 DT.
This is kind of the prob we run into with the 3-4. Most dominate college DT’s dont project to NT that well at the NFL level. Could you imagine taking a talent like Suh, and asking him to absorb double teams, so our LB’s could run free; what a waste of talent that would be.
If you want a prospect to keep an eye on, that could help at NT for us, look at Baylor’s DT Phil Taylor. He should be a mid rond draft choice(3rd-5th), and can definitly play NT in the NFL. It actually would prob be his best position.

now having said that, I’d gladly take Darius or Fairley in the 1st round as a DE in our 3-4. They could take the place of Golston/Daniels. Hell, maybe we could move Golston to NT. He doesn’t get much push into the backfield as a DE, so maybe he would be better suited as a NT. This is all speculation of course, because I have no idea if he would be at all effective at NT. All I can tell you is both Fairly and Darius would be a huge upgrade on our DL.

Stephen Paea could probably play NT
& if not would be a monster as a DE. Kendrick Ellis from Hampton is more of an NFL NT than Fua but I doubt either will be around when we pick in the 5th & both would be huge reaches in the 2nd. Addressing our D-line in the 1st should be a priority in April & the realization that this is not a one year fix
I kind of agree ENs
with the D-Line statement. Although I’m not so sure the staff will pull away from the talent of a Green/Jones/Newton/Mallett.

Some 2011 Free Agent that may be available listed in "Washington Redskins: Top 10 Free Agents to Target
After the ’10 Season" By Matthew Brown on December 10, 201 http://bleacherreport.com/articles/539800-washington-redskins-top-10-free-agents-to-target-after-the-10-season#page/6
Barry Cofield, Defensive Tackle, New York Giants
Mike Sims-Walker, Wide Receiver, Jacksonville Jaguars
Richard Marshall, Cornerback, Carolina
Ryan Kalil, Center, Carolina Panthers
Their current contract situations of these players have not been investigated. Some of them may be a starting point for roster improvement.
Some other players in the article had been previously discussed in HH for the 2010 season and it would be a rehash to mention them again.
Free Agents
I like the Barry Cofield, & Richard Marshall idea, Ryan Kalil is a OK sign to get more deph at Center, i think some good players to sign is Jared Gaither even though there is a small chance of Baltimore will let him go, Carl Nicks, Lamarr Woodley is a must be yes but i don’t think the Stealer’s will let him go if he does get signed i think Brian O. will move to the other outside linebacker or will go back to defensive send
by Moe_Abdulkadir21 on Dec 10, 2010 8:11 PM EST reply actions
Kalil would not be signed as a backup
he would be a starter. He is better at this point of his career than Rabach.
Cole from the Eagles would be another option at C.
Woodley will not leave Pitt.

ATV
Sure did look good today and I have liked him from the start. While I’m loving some Torain we still need to pick up a speedy RB to compliment him or start over him and he can punch it in on goaline.
torain train is the future.
could not agree with you more there is no need to waste draft picks on backs when we have torain and williams the big issue this team has is the o lineman you are right just imagine if we had a pro bowl o line torain would break some of riggos rushing records. we need 2 more tackles a guard and a center plus some speedy linebackers that can play the four three scheme haslet wants this team is going to be a work in progress and we have some pieces to start with thats torain and williams .
lohaus #54
How about a defensive coordinator that can call the 4-3? We don’t have the right personnel for the 3-4 and it’s going to cost us too much talent and too many draft picks to change that. We’re talking about years to get that system running right and my personal opinion is that unless you have someone like LeBau, Ryan, Belichek, Ryan, Capers or even Phillips calling it you are wasting time and are going to be mediocre. Bottom line is that we went from the top half of the league the bottom in one year on that side of the ball. We improved a bit on offense (specifically the line and in turnovers) yet we only got 2 more wins.
You combine last seasons defense with this seasons offense and you may win an extra 3-4 games and the whole Haynesworth mess would have been avoided to boot. Not justifying his behavior, but less drama is always a good thing for a team.
