I was debating with a friend of mine that we could have 2-3 more wins if we had a solid FG kicker so I went back and looked at the stats and I was right. Check this out below.
In our loss to the Texans: 2/4 (missed a 20-29 yarder and a 50 yarder) both in regular time and we lose in overtime by 3.
In our loss to Indy: ½ missed a 40-45 yarder and we lose by 3
In our loss to TB: 1/3 (missed a 20-29 yarder and a 30-40 yarder) and we lose by 1…not to mention he almost missed an extra point.
I didnt bother getting the exact yardage, but rather the different brackets that espn breaks down the stats into. The guy is 22/32. How is that possible as an NFL kicker?
AT THIS POINT I WOULD BE OK WITH DRAFTING THE BEST F-ING COLLEGE KICKER WITH OUR 1st ROUND PICK. Can you tell me another position where you can point to and say that player really won us 3 games by himself this year? You could argue QB, but I could argue that it was a combination of the QB and the WR. You could argue RB, but I could argue OL or having a QB that can spread the field. I am really JOKING about the 1st round, but we definately need to improve this.
At 8-5 we would play Dallas and Jac (both good chances for a W) and then matchup against NYG in the final game of the season possibly at 10-5 and control our destiny.
I just looked up who won the Lou Groza award for best kicker....Dan Bailey... to my dismay Gano won the damn award in 2008. Guess that award doesnt mean jack for predicting NFL kickers.
