I know that with everything going on, it is highly improbable that we will qualify for the postseason this year. However, for the sake of actually having a reason to watch the remaining 5 games, lets just think back to a time not too long ago when the redskins were in a similar situation in 2007.
We had just lost to a team that was playing horribly all season in the Buffalo Bills. We lost at home to a team that had been playing more poorly than we were at the time. All hope was lost as we dropped to 5-7 on the season and had these same conversations of demise and playing for next year. How do the Redskins repay us.....??? By winning the next four games against Chicago, New York, Minnesota and Dallas! 9-7 and a wild-card berth for a team that fought hard the rest of the way! Of course we would lose in Seattle but it was alot of fun watching the final 5 games of that year!
Could it happen again this year???? In 2007, it started against Chicago and then New York. We are back in New York this week to begin a new streak of wins. I would like to believe that it will and here are my extremely optimistic reasons to believe after the jump
- We are 5-6 now. We still have 5 games left with only one of those games an AFC game. We essentially could get 4 more wins in the NFC. Now is not the time to give up hope.
- We have three more division games left and could be 4-2 in the division. We have a depleted Giants team this week, an overachieving Cowboy team in three weeks, and the Giants again at home to finish out the season. This is why the schedule makers placed more division games toward the end of the season.
- Lets play prognosticator for a second: If we win out we will have given the giants 2 more losses in the division giving us the tie-breaker with them if we somehow both ended up at 10-6. The Eagles also have 4 losses and would need 2 more for us to tie them in the loss column. They still have 3 division games as well and if they somehow find a way to lose at the Giants and split with the Cowboys, they should finish the season at 10-6 as well. A three way tie at the top of the division at 10-6 (if this scenario plays itself out) would give the nod to the Redskins and give us a home game in the playoffs against a team that will probably have a better overall record than us.
The season is not over! We are still well within striking distance of a playoff berth. Once again, I have tempered my expectations and realize that this may not happen the way I just illustrated, however, I wanted a reason to watch the rest of the season. I wanted a glimmer of hope that something magical could happen. Redskins Nation....Here is your scenario! There are probably other ways that it could happen but I wanted to focus on our division! Nation, lets stand up and get behind our team for the stretch run!
HAIL!!!
