Roster analysis: Casey Rabach, Will Montgomery and the future at Center
In short, with a $3 million salary looming in 2011, by structuring the signing bonus in [the manner Bruce Allen did], the Redskins can terminate Rabach's contract without cap accounting consequence in 2011, meaning with zero dead money. Had the team not negotiated this provision, Rabach's dead money would have been $2.8 million. Therefore, one can conclude, in part, that the Redskins were uncertain of Rabach's role beyond 2010 and structured a contract accordingly.
Centreville's Will Montgomery, Rabach's replacement last week in Tennessee, also had his contract renegotiated prior to the 2010 season. That renegotiation could prove advantageous for the Redskins...

I'm still not sold on Montgomery
as the answer at Center. But it’s nice to know that we have some flexibility there.

On Montgomery, he rated well on Pro Football Focus in 2009, but he did not look that good - got pushed around a lot. I was
surprised that he didn’t get cut in September.

Who knew?
We have a capable front office that knows how to write up a contract(s)

The answer?
Stefen Wisniewski
http://www.nfldraftbible.com/Players/List/2011-Big-Board/Stefen-Wisniewski.html
Won awards at both center and guard. Played both positions for 2 years at the college level. He’s projected to be a late 2nd or early 3rd round pick. Beefing up that interior line should be a priority.
That sucks
Because we won’t have a 2nd (McNabb) or 3rd round (Hicks) pick to draft him with.

We do have a 2nd.
It was this past year’s 2nd we traded. This year the 3rd or 4th goes to Philly, with the other going to New Orleans for the Brown trade. We have a 1, 2, 5, two 6s and a 7, if I remember correctly.

I stand corrected
Seems like forever ago we had a 1st & 2nd round pick in the same draft. Do you think there’s any chance of us getting more picks in the upcoming draft?

I could see us trading down
depending on where we pick in the first round. If we’re picking where I want us to be, which is somewhere from 20-26, probably not, but if we’re picking between 10-20 which is more likely, we could probably drop back in the round for a team who really wants one of the quarterbacks or something. Trade first round picks with them and pick up a 3rd as well, something like that.
An 8-8 season got the Skins a 1st round 13th pick in 2009. The way things are lining up now -
http://espn.go.com/nfl/draft – which is very subject to change, i.e., for instance, Mike Pouncey, C,Florida has a Scouts Inc grade of 92 which is about the equivalent of an 18th pick and higher the Hudson, C. The Skins could get one of the better QB prospects in the 1st round, but not Luck given these rankings. An OT or DT could also be had.

I think should include Cam Newton
There is no way he will be back for another year of NCAA fun. He will be first.

Second.
Luck is the absolute real deal, no coach or GM would pass on him for Newton. Cam is a freak, like a smarter, faster Vince Young, but as a pure QB prospect, Luck is unquestionably #1. Where I disagree with almost everyone is Locker, I think the guy is inaccurate and makes questionable decisions. He gets inflated by great physical measurables but those don’t win games in the NFL.
Luck is the pure passer
Cam Newton is a one man wrecking crew. He is 6’6" and I think has a pretty good arm. Ofcourse, it depends on who is drafting first. I just don’t want to be the GM that passes on Newton.
