RB Kestahn Moore

After the Redskins signed Kestahn Moore to the practice squad, my first thought was "Yes! A former Gator!"

My second thought however, was that Kestahn was part of the rushing attack that Urban Meyer called "trash" after the 2005 season.

Sure the guy averaged over 5 yards a carry, but he didn't have to run much as for his entire career (other than that "trash" running backs season of 2005) he had Percy Harvin in front of him at the "Percy Position" which is a RB/WR hybrid.

A few points to note about Kestahn.

  • He is a decent character guy. And what I mean by that is while he was never really busted at UF for doing anything all that stupid, he was there for a few of them.
  • He suffers from DLD. Defender Look at Disease. Meaning that when he is running if a defender even so much as looks at him, he falls to the ground.
  • He is actually a decent receiver out of the back-field. Florida didn't use him much in this role as they had Percy to handle it, but when Kestahn was called on for these plays, the majority of the time he delivered.
  • At his size he tries to be a Stephen Davis type of runner, but because of his DLD, it doesn't work out so well.
  • He grew up a Cowboys fan. And he went to UF because he wanted to be like Emmitt Smith.

After 4 years at UF he had 235 carries for 1,200+ yards and 13 touchdowns.  He also had 38 catches for 231 yards and 3 touchdowns.

It  should be noted however that aside from 3 scores against LSU (2 rushing, 1 receiving), and 1 each against Kentucky and Georgia, that Kestahn Moore never scored against SEC teams. The rest of his touchdowns all came against chump teams (Citadel, Troy, UCF...etc).

I know that he probably will not advance farther than the practice squad, but just thought I'd let y'all know the stuff I can remember about him.

If he sees the field (even in garbage time) the ’Skins are in serious trouble. Unless Kestahn changed in the one year since he left UF.

Yeah, this guy sounds like a bum...

Sorry to say so, but it sounds that way and with the exception of a few players (See: Keiland Williams) I don’t think you can be a successful Running Back in this league if you haven’t rushed for at least 2,500 yards in college. Now, the most important reason is that Running Backs need as much time on the field as anyone in order to develop proper field vision and awareness.

Oh he is a bum. There is a reason why Urban Meyer called him and the other running backs “trash”…more than once.

He played special teams at UF only one year, in 2008. Got a few tackles as well. He was also one of the up men on kickoff returns. He returned something like 4 or 5 short kickoffs for around a 15 yard average.

Moore -

any chance he has matured, turned into a pro?

At best, he can have a DeShawn Wynn type of career in the NFL. At the absolute best.

They were teammates for a couple of seasons and Wynn was another member of the “trash” group of running backs.

That’s what we Gator fans thought of him for 4 years. Though he was on two national championship teams…he wasn’t an intricate part in the offense at any time.
