Sean Taylor's gone but his presence hasn't left Redskins Nation!
Three years have passed and it still seems unreal. Though we need to celebrate Sean Taylor's life and we do, it's still a sad memory that still seems unreal. How many conversations have you had with your buddies about the redskins defense always finding yourself bringing Sean's name into the conversation. When the skins D struggles, don't you always think back about how the defense would be with Sean running around? You look at Laron Landry and the pro bowl caliber year he's having and without taking anything away from him you can't help but to think what it'd be like if he and Sean were back there putting the hurting on everyone. Sean Taylor was on his way to being one of the best to have ever played the safety position. He was a complete- all around athlete, he could catch the ball, he could run with the ball and we all know the type of hits he'd lay on opponents. Dating back to the 2006 season when the skins played the cowboys and Taylor recovered the blocked Vanderjagt field goal attempt running it back….we all knew anything could've happened on that play. That was the beauty of his game, he left you guessing every time.
You probably didn't like Sean Taylor if you were on the opposing team, catching a pass in the middle of the field was thought about twice when #21 was in the game. Sean Taylor was on his way to his second pro bowl which he was posthumously voted to in 2007, but most importantly he was a different man than the one that entered the NFL in 2004. "The birth of his daughter seemed to be the reason for his change", Clinton Portis shared when asked about Sean. Taylor got into a few encounters with the law in his first two years but after his daughter was born Sean was more of the family man. It transferred to the field, his 2006 season which sadly was his last, Sean showed us why he was our favorite defensive player. Taylor finished the 2006 campaign recording 129 tackles, 1 interception, 6 passes defended and 3 forced fumbles. Sean was honored in the game against the Bills following his death by the redskins defense lining up with 10 men leaving his spot open. This also happened in the 2007 pro bowl when the NFC lined up with 10 men once again honoring the late Sean Taylor with his open spot on the field. Sean was loved by all, feared by all on the field but most importantly, he was respected by all. Thanksgiving is a time of reflection, I know I always have the Taylor/Garcia family in my prayers during these times. Football is great, Sean Taylor was one of the best, he will always be missed and remembered by redskins fans all around the world. HTTR!
