Do you like obscure stats? Then I've got a great one for you.
Andy Reid is of course infamous for his 12-0 record off a BYE week, well, I decided to look into his record for the 2nd game after a BYE, which is what tonight's matchup reflects. In his last 5 games, the Eagles have lost 4 of them. Last year's loss after the BYE certainly stings with Eagles fans since that was their loss to the hapless Oakland Raiders, Quarterbacked by Jamarcus Russell. McNabb laid somewhat of a stinker that game (0 Tds, 0 INTs, 269 yards), but that's the game Reid decided to throw the ball 46 times and only run it 16 (against a 29th ranked rushing defense). Brilliant!
Here's how the Eagles played their 2 games after the BYE....
2009 - Beat Tampa, then lost @ OAK 13-9
2008 - Beat ATL, then won @SEA 26-7
2007 - Beat Jets, then lost to Bears 19-16
2006 - Beat Redskins 27-3, then lost to TEN 31-13
2005 - Beat Chargers, then lost @DEN 49-21
2004 - Beat CAR, then beat @CLE 34-31 in OT ****
2003 - Beat BUF, then beat Skins 27-25
2002 - Beat TAM, then beat NYG 17-3
2001 - BEAT NYG, lost to @OAK 20-10
2000 - week 16 BYE - only 1 regular season game left.
1999 - week 16 BYE - only 1 regular season game left.
*** - I have to add an asterisk. Going to OT against Cleveland is pretty lame...although Jeff Garcia was the QB for CLE this game.
Two other notable, handicapping stats:
- Redskins are 3-0 ATS (Against the Spread) when facing a team with a winning record and 4-0 ATS on natural grass
Currently, the line is Eagles -3.5 (opened at 3).
