Why Jerry Gray should not be kept on in Shanahan's Staff

Jerry Gray, the Scondary coach in 2009 for our beloved team should not be kept on as part of the new staff. For one
He interview for his Head Coaches job while Zorn was still coach. How could you do that Jerry Gray just tfor a token interview for Snyder to satisfy The "Rooney Rule" how does that make you feel Jerry to just be interviewed because you are a minority and just to make sure Shanahan is hired quicker so we can get ready for the 2010 season. Another reason why you should not be back is beacuse your secondary was awful the last 3 weeks of the season, Carlos Rogers droppes Intercepts like its a gernade, LaRon Landry gets beat on coverager on every deep ball thrown his way, the only bright spot on this secondary was D. Hall who can actually catch a int. Reed Doughty needs to go Jerry, also LaRon LaNDRY needs to be moved back to where he is comfertable which is strong Safety. Washington Redskins roster

Where are you coming from?

You said let go of Reed Doughty! Where is that coming from? Doughty plays hard and leads by example. He’s the type of guy you should want to keep on your team. Doughty is the most consistent tackler in the secondary. One of the problems in the secondary was tackling. On the season Doughty had 91 tackles and was on pace to reach 100 tackles on the season. He would have reached that milestone if he didn’t get hurt midway through week 16’s game against the Cowgirls.

You blame Gray for the secondary’s mistakes when he doesn’t call the plays and he doesn’t make the personnel decisions. Blache made those choices. You can’t blame Jerry Gray for Carlos Rogers’ bad hands. They will be bad before and after Gray is coaching him. So blaming Grays for things he can do nothing about is not fair. And do some research before you make a post.

scheme problems

I’m not adamant that Gray should be kept but the entire group of DB s was set up for failure in the scheme Blache was using.

I do agree that landry should be moved back to SS where he plays well.

Reed Doughty

had a hell of a season! If it wasn’t for him, our secondary would have been worse. I always see him leaving for Redskins Park early in the morning everyday, and he doesn’t come home until late everyday, so I know he’s working his butt off. More then I can say for some of those guys. Plus, he’s a high character guy, and right now, we need all of those we can get in that locker room.

Skins

Did you wake up in a parallel universe full of anti-matter? Other than putting Laron back at SS, you got everything bass-akwards. Nothing else was specifically Gray’s fault. Apparently, Carlos will NEVER learn to catch a football. Doughty was by comparison a STAR in our secondary. Imma shakin ma heyadd justa reedin yer posta. (This is how they speak in alternate universes, or so I’m told.)

Scott ?? Come on man .. Not Gray's fault. How many times did we see our Db's out of position or using the wrong technic ?

I will answer this question.( way to many times) How many times did our Db’s get burnt on the same type of play ? When this happens it is the coaches fault. Well coached teams will not make the same mistake every single game. Gray is not a good Db coach and Blache is not a good Defensive Coordinator. We also need to fire our special teams coach. Can anyone tell me that we have blocked well on any returns ?

just a DB coach

He can’t change the scheme unless the DC let’s him. The problems in the back field were mostly due to the scheme were the DBs had to let the WRs run free the entire game. That scheme would make any DB coach look bad.

How about allowing a receiver to get to the sideline when they are trying to move the ball into field goal range.

We were playing inside leverag coverage instead of playing outside in. This was on the position coach. What position coach would allow his players to get abused like that with out making a peep. How could you allow the D. coordinatror to set your players up for failure ?

you're making a lot of assumptions

“with out making a peep”

We don’t know what or if he said anything. And “playing inside leverag coverage instead of playing outside in” is part of the scheme.

You’re assuming he has the power to change those things and you don’t know that.

Funny how you don’t apply the same criteria to Campbell.

I wasn't commenting on the assertion made - Gray should not be a Skins coach going forward -

just the arguments used to back them up. His first comment on Gray faux interviewing for the Rooney Rule during a game week is spot on. I’m sure Gray got a kickback from Snyder (or something) in return for the….well let’s just leave it at that.

But asserting Doughty had a horrible year was not only baseless fact-wise, but truly an imaginative interpretation of events as they transpired all season.

All the double move failures and bizarre positioning really fall to Blache forcing the coverages due to injuries and people not playing to their strengths – LL for sure. And forgive me, but Carlos could not catch a ball if it were in his own scrotum. That’s not Gray, that it in black and white.

Gray

I don’t think Gray did a very good job – misused good players and went along with Blache’s passive defense. Carlos is our best defensive back (despite bad hands), and Hall, Doughty, Horton and Landry (used properly) are all excellent. I don’t see how Gray had a choice on the job interview, but he should have been totally honest with Jim (and maybe he was).
