"You’ve got guys who fought through adversity all season long and he wasn’t even there," he said. "He didn’t come to meetings. He wasn’t on the sideline with us when we were going through these rough times. And if he did come, he left by the third quarter. You never saw him around the facility or anywhere. For him to go out and throw Jason under the bus, what kind of teammate are you?"
I guess that settles it.

I've been saying all season

CP is a huge problem in every way – paycheck, attitude, effort, dressing issues, BIG MOUTH with nothing positive behind it. Happy trails….

Time flies like an arrow. Fruit flies like a banana.

by Scott E on Jan 6, 2010 9:58 AM EST reply actions

But ESPECIALLY
dressing issues

How can we have our starting RB look like he’s always on the hunt for man-meat?

by CarverM on Jan 6, 2010 10:27 AM EST up reply actions

I couldn't agree more

What screams “ME, ME, ME” more than someone dressing stupidly to get attention?

Well CP

I guess we know that Jason has the respect of those in the locker room, you know – something like a LEADER would have.

Says it all

CP a top 10 back
CP a solid and productive Redskins
CP a cancer to building a team which will go to the playoffs and have a shot at the Superbowl

CP is TO: Me players not team players, which is ok when the team is doing well but when the team needs to rebuild it cannot be allowed to continue. Buh-Bye!

Portis lost me a long time ago

It was around the time he stuck his foot in his mouth about Michael Vick. That might not have registered with some people but it set off a bunch of alarms with me at the time. He never really recovered since.

Not only that, but when he whined about playing in the preseason, that rubbed me the wrong way, too.

I’m not convinced he’ll be gone. This could be a struggle between Snyder and Shanny as far as Portis goes. Portis is Snyder’s mancrush, so we’ll see if things have changed on that front.

by killianskid34 on Jan 6, 2010 10:08 AM EST reply actions

this CP situation

will be what tells us if there’s really change here. Bruce said he wants character on the team, so if he’s not cut in the uncapped year we know what the deal really is.

the running game improved after he was hurt

so it’s not like there’s a good reason to keep him.

by aFan4Life on Jan 6, 2010 10:37 AM EST up reply actions

That's the signature sign that he won't be here

There is no sufficient reason to keep him except his contract. I think what we are seeing is CP seeing the writing on the wall and he is going into death spasms.

Bruce Allen said the word “team” about a thousand times during his press conference. If CP isn’t let go, I don’t know what’s going on.

by hsoup on Jan 6, 2010 1:13 PM EST up reply actions

Conflicting views

Shanahan never really had an issue with taking guys with poor character (Clarett, Travis Henry, etc.), but Bruce Allen is talking about guys with character. I wonder who will win out here?

I’m still not convinced that Portis will be gone just yet.

by killianskid34 on Jan 7, 2010 7:33 AM EST up reply actions

This is no big suprise

He always ran to the owner when he didn’t get his way. Even the players said the offense looked much more efficient without him their. He has helped to drag this team into the gutter now for more than just this year.

He is such a self centered egotistic maniac.

Maybe Portis, Owens and Ochowacko could start their own team. Call it the crybaby club.

Don't include Ochocinco in that group

His schtick is comedy, it doesn’t undermine the team.

I used to dislike Ochocinco

but that was when I only heard/saw parts of interviews. Now that I’ve watched a couple extended interviews I can see what he’s doing and I think it’s ok. It’s not something I would do but I don’t think it undermines the team.

by aFan4Life on Jan 6, 2010 10:38 AM EST up reply actions

I also used to dislike Chad Johnson

and I still think the “ochocinco” thing is ridiculous. But I respect him as a player because he takes accountability and he works as hard as anyone. I did think it was funny when he insisted he was going to go stay with Carson Palmer to get on the same page.

by CarverM on Jan 6, 2010 10:42 AM EST up reply actions

he is ridiculous sometimes

like offering the ref money. That was ridiculous!

The name thing is stupid too. It’s a fun stupid though, not a mean stupid. Kind of like a fun drunk as opposed to a mean drunk. :P

I thought holding a dollar bill during the review was hilarious

a $1 bill is obviously not a bribe, and everyone except the NoFunLeague realized this. Maybe my issue with the name thing is that its not real spanish. Maybe if he changed it to “Ochenta y cinco” it wouldn’t be quite as annoying.

yeah, I agree

I thought the “bribe” was kinda funny too. He would’ve been the perfect player for the XFL. Not saying that he doesn’t belong in the NFL. I think he is much more of a “team guy” than the others that were mentioned.

That said, the name change still irritates me. I feel bad for the commentators every time they have to say it. And I feel bad for his family, who’s name he discarded.

He shows respect for good play

He and Revis faced off against each other last week and Revis shut him down completely (0 catches). After the game, Ochocinco complimented Revis and his excellent game and gave Revis credit without making up excuses on why he was shut down. What I liked about this is he probably could have made some excuses because he hurt his ankle during the pregame warmup and didn’t play the entire game.

by RFKate28 on Jan 6, 2010 11:02 AM EST up reply actions

by aFan4Life on Jan 6, 2010 12:31 PM EST up reply actions

Sorry.....I do

It might be comedy, but theirs no denying he needs all the attention. Where is the Loud mouth on the Steelers, Colts, Pats, or any of the past super bowl winners. You can’t find one like these three. It’s not a coincidense that these guys haven’t won a super bowl and never will. They always call out attention to their team even though they want it all on them, it hurts the team IMO. But don’t take my word for it, just look at the amount of Super Bowl wins between them…….ZERO!

But I’ll give you that he’s at least good at comedy and I would guess he might be good at reality TV to.

by skinsymets on Jan 6, 2010 10:40 AM EST up reply actions

There is a world of difference

between being a colorful character and seeking media attention, and what CP has done this week, or what TO did his whole career.

I’m not saying Ocho doesn’t have an ego. He obviously does. But his actions aren’t detrimental to the team and don’t take away from his on-field production.

You called Ocho a crybaby. He most certainly is not.

your point is well taken, I will say that the Steelers have had their share of “loud mouths”, from Plexiglass to Joey Porter to Harrison. Fortunately for them it has had no effect on the team.

by Scott E on Jan 6, 2010 3:48 PM EST up reply actions

Well your point is well taken also

but the category I’m puting these three in, the “I” “ME” and “Distraction to my team category” or call it whatever category you want, it’s just a different breed or category compared to the type of distraction your talking about. I give Ochowacko a semi pass, but he was definitely neglected by Mommy for all the attention he needs.

But it’s just my opinion and oh yeah I still have the Super Bowl evidence to back it up. No super bowls for these three guaranteed! You don’t need to know that E = Mc to the second power to figure it out. Yes, these three are good drama queens and maybe actors or whatever else but all three have PROVEN TO BE POISON IN THE ULTIMATE COLUMN, winning the Super bowl.

The nice thing is that Shanahan won’t put up with any of this crap. So if anyone is counting on any of this up to the minute update with what’s going on in these players lives from the sidelines, who’s on what reality show, who’s crying about playing time, who’s da man, who can’t cover me or I’m changing my name, who’s twittering about getting yelled at in the locker room or whatever kind of drama these players need their mommy for, they’ll be out of here as fast as they came in. Let’s start worrying about football not drama.

by skinsymets on Jan 6, 2010 6:37 PM EST up reply actions

What's funny about all this...

Is Shanahan didn’t like CP’s work ethic and attitude his rookie year…then Gibbs and Snyder sign him to 15 years for 3 trillion dollars. Mis-management 101. The team was already a mess at that point tho with Bailey wanting out.

"It was one of those things where everyone in the building was suddenly excited again," Cerrato said. "And all the women in the building were the most excited. They couldn't believe we were getting the guy from "Dancing With the Stars."

Hindsight is 20/20. I didn’t see you bitching and analyzing the move when he was a premier rusher in the league and going to pro bowls.

He did a lot for this franchise in the Gibbs 2.0 era. He laid his body on the line consistently. I’m sure he’s a little insecure now and can see the light at the end of the tunnel.

But ask yourself is anything he said about JC wrong? (I’m sure LJP will shit himself and have about 9 posts) It was wrong to come out and say the things he did, but what he says was true.

by Parks Smith on Jan 6, 2010 10:16 AM EST up reply actions

Yea he did do a lot for this franchise

but is anything that the other players said wrong? If he wasn’t their leader and didn’t have their respect, why would there be as strong a backlash as this?

Much respect for what CP did for this franchise, but this was just uncalled for.

“He laid his body on the line consistently”

that’s what RBs do…all of them, on any team, it’s in the job description. He didn’t do any more of that than anyone else would have.

He was good (not great) for a while but his pay and productivity are way out of balance.

As I stated in another post, it’s possible that CP was right about JC not being a leader. I don’t know since I’m not in the practices or huddles.

Personally, if I were on a team, I would not vote for a guy who consistently missed practice (CP) but that doesn’t make JC a leader.

by aFan4Life on Jan 6, 2010 10:43 AM EST up reply actions

I'm not sure why you overextend gratitude

for CP laying it on the line IN PREVIOUS years. He was way overpaid and we should expect hard play (and practice) and leadership from someone in his position. Yeah, we got some good mileage from him, as we should expect, the rest was purely detrimental.

Prima donna

I have many issues with CP. I’m not saying I’m on board with JC, because I’m not the biggest fan of his. BUT I’m definitely not a fan of CP. He’s a prima donna who misses practice and expects to play anyway. It speaks volumes that his backup goes in the game and does better than he did all season.
As for preseason play, I know CP got burned one preseason, but winners want to play. You didn’t see Brady or Manning whining about preseason. They played as much as their coaches would allow them. They led the team by example. I’d say it shows.

From Dan Steinberg:

Cooley: "There wasn’t enough offensive leadership. There wasn’t someone that took the team and said, ‘This is what we’re gonna do.’ "

different styles of leadership

Is 1 issue here. personally I’ve never been one to be motivated by fiery speeches and I’m much more likely to be motivated by example (as JC has evidently shown) but maybe some of the other team mates need the more boisterous kind of leadership.

by aFan4Life on Jan 6, 2010 12:36 PM EST reply actions

I think most good teams get both kinds

With Zorn and Campbell, you had 2 “Medium” personalities and no one else stepping up except Buges on the offensive side. If Zorn or Campbell were the fiery type, then you get a “good cop/bad cop” dynamic which tends to work well.

by Scott E on Jan 6, 2010 1:17 PM EST up reply actions

I think a leader exudes confidance.

I will never forget hearing this, back in the eighties before he was JOHN ELWAY, when he led his team on a 98 yd drive in frozen Cleveland in under 2 minutes. A few of his lineman said: he told us in the huddle( from their own 2 yd line with Browns fans screaming wildly) “we got them exactly where we want them”, he said it quietly and directly. The lineman all said, they could see it in his eyes, that he knew they would do it. They could ‘feel it" and they believed. He willed that team downfield against all odds, and the players all knew they would do it. That was “The Drive”, and Elway became a legend.
Granted that was John Elway, but the idea is you must have 1 person in the huddle that the other 10 guys can believe in. You cannot win without that 1 guy.
That’s what Washington is missing, that guy that lets everyone around just know, “that we are going to do this”. You don’t have to be loud, or a screamer or rah-rah guy. You have to see it in his eyes.

We scared to write who said this?

First off, I would like to address Portis saying anything…He’s 29, and broken down because of the Redskin’s Stupidity. Every single fan owes him a debt of gratitude for making the Redskin’s not be 4-12 since his arrival. The man was Remarkable without a significant threat at Wide Receiver or QB. For that every Redskin fan should just push whatever he says to the side. Ever since he started dressing up in his stupid outfits, we all could see this day coming. He became the bipolar uncle who isn’t taking his medicine. Now that there is someone to take his spot, who’s proven and young, He doesn’t want his money/playing time to be taken away from him. He wants out of a bad situation. It’s funny really, because the redskins to me have been “rebuilding” since they got him. He is sick of it, and wants out…yeah maybe…or maybe he doesn’t want to be embarrassed like LT was when Sproles took half of his pay check.

I just think it’s funny that someone will say anything on this team about fight anyone not “Fighting through adversity” …Portis didn’t get his shit pushed in on national television against the Giants. True Story. And as for leaving in the 3rd Quarter, it’s cool to watch football with a concussion. By the way, with the way the Skins were playing, your damn lucky he stayed 3 quarters, fan’s didn’t bother to stay that long.

And stop calling Crapbell JC (it makes me laugh, because that bitch wasn’t our savior).

by Blueblood27 on Jan 6, 2010 8:04 PM EST reply actions   1 recs

portis was good

but he now sucks, can’t get on the field, doesn’t practice, and his act is real old. I appreciate what he has down for use like single handedly getting us into the playoffs in 2005 but its his time to go. And JC was not supposed to be our savior just a starting quaterback that produces. If you expected him to single handedly save the franchise from 4-12 then you are delusional (but I already knew that you were delusional by thinking he is bad, and the fact that you are taking portis’s side in this argument). Oh and btw LT is happy with where he is at right now because his team is winning and he has a shot at the super bowl because he isn’t a bitchy prima donna like Portis. I think its ok to be a bitchy prima donna if you can produce a lot, but portis doesn’t produce, or even play for that matter, anymore and his contract is ridiculous for a broken down whining ass. I will appreciate what he has down for this franchise and will always wear his jersey with pride with fond memories of his prime years with us, but right now CP is a huge asshole who is fracturing the locker room and he needs to go. Funny how we just hired the same coach who got rid of him in denver…

by Area 51 Forever on Jan 6, 2010 8:38 PM EST up reply actions

I am glad your taking JC's side

I take portis’s side because he helped, “single handedly getting us into the playoffs in 2005”. How many times did Campbell do that?

Oh and btw, Shanny is great with QB’s right? I mean Jake the snake was awesome. How many superbowls did Shanny win without Elway? Oh thats right. And this isn’t some week division like Denver is in. The Eagles and Cowboys have YOUNG talent. The Gmen’s defense was hurt all year, they are just coming off a superbowl. We need a LEADER at QB, not just someone who’s leading by example. If you Lead by example, you look like the Giants Defense the last two weeks of the season…or Like Jason Campbell all year. Do you think a leader would let Portis pop off at the mouth? NO. Never would happen. I really hope Portis goes somewhere he can be great again. LT actually was really hurt after the sproles thing happened, but he is the classiest back in the league, and who wouldn’ t be happy living in San Diego’s beautiful weather.

send both of them out here, PERIOD. Portis for being old and wreckless with his truths, Campbell for not getting the job done.

by Blueblood27 on Jan 7, 2010 8:37 AM EST reply actions   1 recs

he can't do anything about portis because

portis is butt buddies with dan snyder so he has been untouchable until now cause shanahan looks like he not gonna have any of that shit. just because portis carried us to the playoffs one year doesn’t mean we should keep his sorry ass who as of right now is always injured, doesn’t put in any effort, is a terrible teammate, hasn’t produced at all, is being paid 7 mil this year, and was close to retiring not too long ago because he has had ongoing concussion problems. Oh yeah and being such a ignorant hater how bout you ask yourself this question: how many superbowls did elway win without shanahan? those superbowl wins could be more attributed to shanahan’s juggernaut rushing attack than elway’s arm. Yeah you just proved my point also by saying LT is the classiest back in the league because portis right now is being a huge douche who hasn’t done shit the whole year and is being paid 7 million dollars. even his teammates don’t like him. And fyi he sqeezed a 13-3 season out of jake the snake, so good job on the sarcastic question that only further proves your ignorance.

by Area 51 Forever on Jan 7, 2010 5:38 PM EST up reply actions

Actually I think it's time to let both go

I guess the last thing i said held no water. AGAIN GET THEM BOTH THE HELL OUT OF HERE ASAP, and Deanglo Hall. Why not. Draft Picks ALL AROUND. I was saying, LT is complete class, Portis speaks his mind and is completely right about what he said, but is a gutless bastard for saying it in the media. If he kept it in the locker, this wouldn’t have been a problem at all. My problem is with ignorant ass fans who drink the haterade and star shitting on a guy who up until this season was a BEAST. This is the business of the NFL now moron. Throw someone under the bus to save your job. He is no longer the FACE of the chargers. LT should be popping off at the mouth when they don’t win the superbowl about how he deserved more money this season. But I digress, back to the matter at hand. Accept that Portis really was the only thing from making you not drink the bleach in your laundry room after every game (when he was healthy). Your right, Shanny deserves the respect of helping win a Superbowl, he did establish a running game. But NEVER throw that weak shit about Plumber in my face. 2005 was a shit show, and he had an easy ass schedule! BTW Shanny sent Portis packing because he needed Bailey because he’s a joke of a defensive coach. He’ll be smart and pawn it off to someone else, he knows his weaknesses. He’s the man when it comes to running backs, minus his last couple draft picks (OSU). As for the Jake the Snake comment…

 They beat three legit teams…
1. Jacksonville *12-4
2.KC 10-6 (once)
3. Washington 10-6
4. Patriots 10-6

Teams that were 2 games above 500.
1. cowboys
2. chargers (twice)

Teams well below 500 that Jake beat. These were Six wins this season.
1. Eagles
2. Raiders (twice)
3. Bills
4. Jets
5. Baltimore

So His schedule was pretty weak….
The only valid reason to even sign Campbell to a one year extension is to draft a QB and give him a season on the bench before throwing him to the Wolves. Trade Campbell straight up for Anderson in Cleveland. Holmgren works wonders with QB’s.

chill asshole i wasn't talking about portis in the past

i will always be greatful for what portis did for the franchise and appreciate what he did in his prime years for us especially the playoff run in 2005. I was talking about RIGHT NOW as in AT THIS MOMENT and at this moment portis is a grossly overpaid injury prone back who hasn’t produced in a while and is being a dick by mouthing off the the media and a bad teammate. Its a classless way for him to go out but I won’t hold it against him cause in the past he was a stud player for us but now its his time to leave he is done. and no the business of the nfl is not being a dick because you are a declining player, it should be that you act as a professional and try to find a job with another team that would want to use you. you are a moron for thinking its ok that these guys should get a pass for acting like prissy bitches when they are going to get replaced. if its a business then there shouldnt be any hard feelings and they should be able to move on without throwing a pussy fit like portis just did. and i love how you admitted you were wrong and said shanahan does deserve credit for the super bowls he won even though you said he couldnt win without elway. and with plummer they beat who they were supposed to which is more than i can say about our beloved redskins these past years. its not their fault they ended up with an easy schedule and they did their job and got 13 wins which is impressive in the nfl no matter who you play, so stop flipping a shit over strength of schedule. and shanahan is a joke of a defensive coach because he is all offense which is why we just need to get him a great DC and will be fine. Also the portis bailey trade didnt happen because shanahan needed defensive help you are completely twisting the situation. we were shopping bailey around the league because he made it clear that he would not resign with us because he hated the front office (don’t blame him) and we didn’t want to lose him for nothing. Denver offered the best deal and we made the trade which ended up working out for both teams. And you hate on campbell is absolutely inane and delusional. The reason he couldn’t get the job done is because the OL would let guys walk through he jack up campbell on every other play. he did very well for a guy who was running for his life and ending up on his ass almost every passing play. how bout we give him a decent OL and let him play with them some before passing judgment early out of sheer ignorance like you. Drafting a QB would be the dumbest thing possible because that’s saying that we won’t try to really win until 2 years down the line which is stupid because we are a few starting O linemen away from being a playoff team. And you are completely delusional if you think anderson is a better QB than campbell. Anderson throws twice as many interceptions and can’t even complete 50 percent of his passes on a regular basis, and his offensive line was better than campbell’s last year.

THE RAMS...

I am pretty sure your ass could move the offense against the RAMS… but Campbell couldn’t.
