Story Lines for the Redskins 2010 Opponents

I need a break from the Zorn/Shanahan talk for a second...that OK with everyone? The NFL PR just emailed out the Redskins 2010 opponents, so I thought I'd take a look at some brewing headlines for next year:

Home:   Dallas Cowboys, New York Giants, Philadelphia Eagles, Green Bay Packers, Minnesota Vikings, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Houston Texans, Indianapolis Colts

Away:   Dallas Cowboys, New York Giants, Philadelphia Eagles, Chicago Bears, Detroit Lions, St. Louis Rams, Jacksonville Jaguars, Tennessee Titans

There will be some headlines the media will surely love to talk up and which will undoubtedly create some great nuggets for Skip Bayless to endlessly ramble about, including:

1.) Haynesworth is going back to Tennessee
72 straight hours of hearing that the trade was not worth it....as the media still complains about Haynesworth playing on average 73% of the plays per game...his average in TEN.

2.) Snyder will get a first-hand look of Cutler in Chicago, aka "the one who got away"
He has to be thanking his lucky stars that trade never panned out

3.) The Redskins will get a chance to redeem themselves in Detroit.

4.) Brett Favre coming to Fedex?
We probably won't know until September 1st if Favre will play "one more" year. I definitely can't handle another year of Favre flip-flopping and ESPN's 24-hour coverage of it.

5.) Bruce Allen faces his old team as the Buccaneers return.
I know Tampa Bay fans would hate to lose that game.

6.) Kyle Shanahan coaching against his old team, the Texans
(added at 6:44pm via the comments section of user 'artmonk4ever')

It'll be interesting to see how many Redskins fans show up to the games next year. I'll be adding polls on that topic soon.

Favre

should just come out and say “you all know I’m not going to make up my mind till preseason, so when I decide I’ll let you know. Until then, fuck off.”

by travisjh86 on Jan 5, 2010 1:11 AM EST up reply actions

That would be awesome

but then the media would just dwell on that statement all offseason.
I think the best football-season commercial this year was Favre in the best-buy store shopping for televisions. Classic.

by CarverM on Jan 5, 2010 10:43 AM EST up reply actions

don't forget

Kyle Shanahan coaching against his old team, the Texans.

by artmonk4ever on Jan 4, 2010 6:24 PM EST reply actions

Excellent...

Added that in.

Kyle.

If Shanahan’s tenure is good here in DC, do you think it’s possible Kyle could become head coach when his father leaves?

by travisjh86 on Jan 5, 2010 1:12 AM EST up reply actions

I thought the same thing

and then I realized that means our organization would be grooming our own HCs in house. That is SO not the Snyder-era Redskins.

by CarverM on Jan 5, 2010 10:45 AM EST up reply actions

That seems like an

awfully tough schedule for a 4-12 year. Did I count 7 games against playoff teams (including 4 games with Dallas and Philly)?

Time flies like an arrow. Fruit flies like a banana.

by Scott E on Jan 4, 2010 6:37 PM EST reply actions

previous year doesn't dictate much for the schedule

I think our ’09 finish only effects 2 games for ’10, otherwise, everything is based on division.

(2x division games, 1x AFC division, 1x NFC division)

Don't the teams match up in the divisions

1X AFC Division 4th place vs our 4th? I guess that only counts for a couple as you say.

by Scott E on Jan 5, 2010 12:40 PM EST up reply actions

right. prev year dictates 2 games

the other 14 are independent of prev year

Everyone in our conference plays the NFC North and AFC South

but our non-common opponents are Tampa Bay and St. Louis. Dallas has the Saints and Cardinals. NY has the Panthers and Seahawks. Philly has the Falcons and 49ers. I think we made out the best in that department.

And there you go.

We have some tough home games, but overall I think its a decent draw for a rebuilding year.

I actually am today...

Will be totally all smiles once we know for certain it is Zimmer coming over.

Favre's Soap Opera makes me sick

but he suprised me this year. Pretty impressive for a 40 year old guy.

With the away game at Jacksonville a London game may be possible…

But I do remeber hearing something about that.

Keep them.

I’ll buy them so you wouldn’t have to get back on the list. You know you won’t be able to stay away for long.

they're club level tickets = over-priced

trying to move down to lower….given the way they treated Ken in the past, our relationship with the organization, and the repercussions if they don’t move us to lower (ie – tell the story on HH), we’ll see what comes out of it. But I’m not doing another season of Club or upper level with this current product and the financial implications for me..

Has anyone

started the talk of us trading for Brandon Marshall? Looks like he’s gonna be available. I think it would be stupid, but you never know around here.

by CJHutch on Jan 4, 2010 7:28 PM EST reply actions

By the way

James said you’re the reason he stopped commenting. He said that he couldn’t comment all day and then talk to you about it all night. So I blame you that my man-crush doesn’t post anymore.

by monk81 on Jan 4, 2010 7:30 PM EST up reply actions

Now I know

you’re lying. I never talk to James at night. That sounds kinda gay.

by CJHutch on Jan 4, 2010 7:40 PM EST up reply actions

I'm just saying...

We had a great dinner a couple of weeks ago. We really connected and he told me that he talked to you in the morning maybe, do you guys have opposite work schedules? I think it something to do with that.
Are you jealous that I had dinner with him?

by monk81 on Jan 4, 2010 7:43 PM EST up reply actions

uh, no

But I will definitely tell him he has a manadmirer.

by CJHutch on Jan 4, 2010 7:46 PM EST up reply actions

so is TO

the Bills will let him go. That would be such a great pick-up. He’s such a team focused guy and alway concerned about his quarterback…..He is better than Santana Moss for real..

you do know

that James is married, right?

by CJHutch on Jan 4, 2010 7:44 PM EST up reply actions

yes

He’s currently married. I went to college with the wife and actually just hung out with the whole gang the other week. I just wanted to give you a hard time because I’m bitter that I’m still at work. This is Joe by the way.
Quite frankly, my man-crush is nothing to compared to his. It gets down right awkward when his wife is around. The kid also put a kink in things.

I am hoping we don’t try for Marshall. But I would be livid if we even TALKED about signing T.O.

by CJHutch on Jan 4, 2010 7:42 PM EST up reply actions

Agreed,

That is one person I feel like I can say we are definitely not signing.

by travisjh86 on Jan 5, 2010 1:16 AM EST up reply actions

we shouldn't sign any of those guys

We need to cut ARE, and keep Moss, Thomas, Kelly, Mitchell, Cooley, and Davis. That is a kick ass offensive front. There are always five options there and they are all threats. You can do 4 WR’s and 1 TE or 3 WR’s and 2 TE, you could split Davis or Cooley out wide. You could do a ton of things with those guys right there. Hell, I could be persuaded to throw Moss into the slot. He would out-welker Welker.

It got started and immediately deep-sixed.

Along with the stupid notion of bringing on TO. Our receiving corps, if you include all 3 TEs, will be great if we just take care of the OL. We shouldn’t waste a drop of time, energy, or money – and certainly not draft picks looking at any other teams WRs. Marshall is a cancer and he and TO team wreckers. We’ve got enough bad attitude on the team as it is.

There are enough suckers out there

There will be people who will buy this “change” as real change. They will buy into this hook, line, and sinker. Therefore, there will be as many people attending games at FedEx next year as there was this year, if not more.

by killianskid34 on Jan 4, 2010 7:28 PM EST reply actions

if i dont renew my tickets then they will be in the playoffs..

and I’ll be kicking myself……I can’t say..If I do thats its like a divorce…..sleepless nights drinking..etc not good

by blan442 on Jan 4, 2010 7:39 PM EST reply actions

I will be going

to every game next season. There are a bunch of teams that I haven’t seen play, and regardless of who the coach is, things will at least be interesting for the first few games.
Packers, Vikings, and Colts- all playoff teams- will be cool to see. Of course, it will suck if we get toasted, but I think I could handle watching it. Who knows, maybe Peyton will have a career day.

by jdubz on Jan 4, 2010 10:25 PM EST reply actions

Will Dan Get It Right This Time?

I really hope we can finally get some stability because this losing and circus atmosphere that seems to never leave this team is way beyond old.

by Beltwayboy on Jan 4, 2010 11:05 PM EST reply actions

Tickets

I’m considering dropping my seats or at the very least going from 6 to 4 or 2. I’ll lose one of parking passes if I do but I just cant see spending the same amount of money again on this team. Of couse it’s January, give me 2 months of no football and I’ll probably be chomping at the bit to write the check

Also, like the guy above I’m sure the minute I cut them loose they’ll be back in the playoffs so maybe I should just do it for the good of team.
