Mike Shanahan as per Wikipedia

I just got done looking up Mike Shanahan on Wikipedia and was VERY impressed by what I saw. Most of the negative posts I've seen about him go something like this "Ya ..he ain't dun nuttin' since Elw...Alw...Allway reti...reet...rttir....err quit". You can tell the quality of the posters by the aforesaid sentence.  In any case, he has done LOTS of good things. One notable was that he was the offensive coordinator for the San Francisco team that held  the league record for most points scored in a year (since broken by Belichick's Patriots).  Read the Wiki stuff and hope we actually get him here.

Please describe....

what you saw on the Wikipedia entry that impressed you. Was it the 91 wins and 69 losses in the last 10 years or the one playoff win? Was it the dominating defenses? Was it the revolving door quarterback? Or was it the two Super Bowl wins he got with a leftover defense from Dan Reeves, and a Hall of Fame quarterback?
The record he set with San Francisco was first broken by the 91 Redskins. It was then broken by the Vikings somewhere around 2001 and then broken by the patriots. What has his offense done in last 10 years?

Wikipedia is usually a good place to ananlyze and decide who to hire in the NFL.

So is Playboy.

I recommend PB over the two.

One good thing

is that he has produced O-lines that have produced highly effective running games. If he does not go too light with his linemen so they can handle a more smashmouth style, then Jason could work out well in a run first format.

Also, if he brings in Zimmer, we could have a killer D.

If we get an average Special Teams coach or keep Smith, things could really look up for us quicker than some expect. A lot depends on how clean he wants his new house and how effective we are on draft days.

Ah the love

It’s great to be loved by all the posters about my Wikipedia comment. Thanks much guys for the accolades. I’m sure I deserved them. (Scott, you can snicker along with me).

Re-visiting Karl Mecklenburg's comments on Shanahan

Mike is a huge upgrade for this franchise…and not in comparison to Zorn, but his expertise in general. Snyder is moving aside.

I think that Shanahan is still a good coach and is an excellent strategist. He is even a good play caller. He just needs to ease up on the control issues and stick to coaching because he has a bad history with personnel decisions. If his ego can handle having a GM partner, he will do wonders for any team he decides to go to…Rumor has it, that Shanahan is trying to bring [Defensive Coordinator] Bob Slowik with him. Bad Move.

soooooo.

if Bruce Allen isn’t a personnel guy, and Shanahan has a history of making bad personnel decisions, and Danny boy is allowed to meddle anymore, how the heck is that going to work? When Bruce Allen got hired everybody said don’t worry he’ll defer to the coach to make the decisions on players. Now everyone that once Shanahan hired says don’t worry, the GM will make the decisions on the players. When we question what will happen to the defense everybody says don’t worry Slowik’s not coming, Zimmer is.
I’m starting to become very worried again

Yes, cause for concern

It’s time to see it in the results…

I'm going to make this a post and explain further, but to clear up

Shanahan was in over his head doing all the GM work and coaching. GM is not just draft day…it’s pouring over the practice squads, trade possibilities, etc.

Shanahan does well with drafting Offensive guys, not defensive. He rotated his defensive coordinators every year, so there was no continuity. The Bengals D is VERY solid…so with Bruce Allen handling all the GM duties…Zimmer and Shanny can deal with the talent out of college.

Shanny

has been watching college football all year too….I think he’ll have a step ahead of who he likes. (fingers crossed)

I keep hearing

that he’s good at drafting offensive guys, but to my knowledge Danny hasn’t found the fountain of youth, and at some point the defensive side of the ball is going to need to be addressed in the draft. Who handles that?

I think I'm going to stop worrying

about this anymore right now and wait to see who the hires are. I think we can count on Danny not to drag this on too long if he indeed has Shanahan in his pocket. If he doesn’t, then we’re going to have all sorts of other non-warm and fuzzy moments in the coming weeks.

+10000+1

I really hate playing off-season Redskins “what-if” but it’s all Snyder has provided. It would be great to talk about a real football game…during the playoffs, I mean redskin’s off-season

What’s the “bad move” about?

All other rumors pointed to Zimmer. What's up?

Slowik’s D’s are generally at the bottom of the league and one of the reasons Shanny got fired – which makes me wonder just how much he has learned over the year. Please make it Zimmer!!

dude

this crap is confusing me now. Somehow I got Slowik and Zimmer (damn europeans, except you pommy) mixed up.

Carry on with scheduled programming.

Sorry...

That was an old rumor…it’s likely Zimmer
