Larry Johnson as a Redskin?

I saw Larry Johnson last year in Vegas during Super Bowl Weekend. I've know him for some time now, and was friedly with him during our time at PSU. I was throwing the BS with him over a drink at the Palms, and we got talking about his time in KC. He told me he wasn't happy there, and didn't feel like he was wanted. We were talking about other teams, and how he saw himself fitting in. He mentioned the NFC east. I asked him about the Redskins, and he said he always liked thier organization, and liked the way they always devoted themselves to the run.  He also mentioned getting back on the east coast so he could be closer to his family.

He did turn 30 in November, but he didn't take the pounding this season as he had in the past after playing behind Benson and Scott in Cinn. He's really only had 3 full seasons of beating in the NFL, so as far as mileage goes, he's got a lot left in the tank.  It doesn't seem that he is in Cinn's long-term plans, and will prob hit the FA market in March. If we let Portis(cap reasons) and Bett(injury) go, he could be a nice addition.  I know he has had some off-field problems in the past, but trust me when I say, he is a good person, who comes from a very good family. If he is surrounded by the right people and the right coach, he can still be very productive as both a player and a citizen.

I do not imagine he would break the bank as a FA.  He may be a good addition to split time if we were to grab a rookie in this years draft.

i live in kansas, larry is no good for the locker room and has a ton of of the field problems! i think he is still talented enough to be a good running back in this league, but i dont lke is attitude and he seems very selfish from what i have seen living in chiefs country!

Larry Johnson

Why bother with old, injury prone, trouble-making running backs when you have a Clinton Portis (and Betts and Ganther and Alridge) on the team?

As I said in the 2nd paragraph of my post

if surrounded by the right people and the right coach, he will not be a problem either on or off the field.

Madness.

If thats not the pot calling the kettle black, mr we need to sign Josh Cribbs, and give up picks to get him.

Tiller, Please you want to give up a second Rd draft pick for TIM TEBOW. Giving up a 2nd rd for TIM TEBOW is maddness in itself.

Why don’t you post this as a poll? Who would you rather have for a second rd pick TEBOW or CRIBBS. Just in case you forgot mentioning the second rd for Tebow thing, here is the link. http://www.hogshaven.com/2010/1/30/1284150/please-draft-tebow

Not really needed

I don’t think is running style is going to transfer over well to Shannahan’s system. Even if it did, we could probably get some production out of a cheaper RB with less problems and a better injury history.

It's just a thought. Not implying it is going to happen

I don’t think he would be a bad fit for the zone blocking scheme.

I'm not saying you did, I'm just putting another perspective out there

Look at it this way, we have Hall, smoot and haynesworth who have all had their drama in the past. We have Portis who sometimes says things that are taken to the media and are run down even though they aren’t significant. We just had a horrible season marked with discouraging headlines the entire year. The last thing we need is another troubled player on the team.

I dont think so, 30 for a runnback is like being 35 at any other position.

I like Larry Johnson I just feel the redskins could be better served by going to the draft. There are too many good rookie running backs who can come in and produce for the Redskins to pick up Larry Johnson.

If being around more positivity would actually change his persona then I wouldn't mind

But I’m sure we can all agree that it would be better to bring in a fresh set of legs. I’m sure Shanahan is going to keep Alridge but it’s time to keep bringing in younger players.

LS is a whiner

and he’s more done than CP so it would be a move backwards, not an improvement.

Would have to disagree based upon the mileage of each back.

Go check it out and you’ll see LJ has a lot less carries over his career than portis. Portis has taken far more punishment over his career than LJ.

LJ's career

Much of his success was the OL and when their OL took a nose dive so did his performance.

LJ was a backup (behinf Priest Holmes) then he ran behind a great OL (Willie Roaf, Will Shields, etc) and looked good. When the great OL dropped because Roaf and Shields retired his performance was average but with an ego that exceeded his performance, even during his best years.

I think there are a lot of rookies who could give better performance without the locker room problems.

I am not a Larry Johnson fan.

He might still have ability, but with his track record, it doesn’t appear to be a good fit.

Props for looking after a "homey"

but I don’t really see this happening unless we get another injury bug this mid-season and he hasn’t been picked up (after unloading Portis, Betts, etc.).

Time flies like an arrow. Fruit flies like a banana.
