Redskins finances in the future?

It's looking more and more like 2010 is going to be an uncapped year. This has skins fans all abuzz. There's lots of discussion about all the players will be able to sign away, because we won't have to worry about the salary-cap. need a new offensive line? No problem, Danny boy's got another 25 mill  around somewhere. You would think that Danny and Jerry are going to be the NFL's version of the Yankees, Red Sox rivalry.

but step back and take a breath and think for a moment; do you think the other 30 owners in the league are going to let this happen? I could easily see an NBA like restriction on teams that are grossly over the salary cap when it returns. Just because the team has millions and millions to spend, doesn't mean we should do it. I fear that the Redskins ownership might look at this as a one-time opportunity to buy a championship. And I certainly don't think that that strategy works well in the NFL; we as Redskins fans probably know that better than anyone.

So when talking about restricted free agents or trading players with large salaries, try to keep in mind that just because there isn't a salary cap next year doesn't mean a responsible team won't act like it. Is Reggie Bush really worth 13.5 million to this team? Sure, we need an upgrade at punt returner, but do we really need to go out and spend a couple million on one or can we find one on the team? We might have a couple of players that would suit another team's roster better than ours at the moment, but are their contracts too big to make a trade?

Ownership is not going to tolerate a negative cash flow situation. How much are you willing to spend on Reggie Bush jerseys? How much more are you willing to spend on parking and concessions at FedEx? What about seat licenses and ticket prices?
