JC
Yes, this topic has been done to death. On one side, you have the JC fanatics (he needs an OL, tall WR's, and a running game, plus some consistency). Yeah, OK, what QB wouldn't want that for an offensive supporting cast? On the other, you have the JC bashers (misses open receivers, slow making reads, panics under imaginary pressure, plays way too conservatively, inability to adapt). Yeah, OK, he does all those things. He's streaky as the Ravens, and that's why no one can get a precise, accurate read on him. Here's how I'm breaking it down:
Yeah, the OL needs to be rebuilt. Grab someone early in free agency, either a swingman or a pure guard, get a quality Ol in the draft and give the line time to build consistency.
Jason was drafted to be a play-action, throw-da-bomb-downfield-QB, not a West Coast, dink-and-dunk passer. However, he has been limited by:
A) the OL
B) his mediocre field vision
C) his "Captain Checkdown" status
D) Clinton Portis' fall from awesomeness
E) Changing offensive systems
F) Inconsistent accuracy
In fact, if you threw a Bills jersey on Campbell, sometimes I'd swear I was watching a more durable, more mobile Trent Edwards.
If he gets a line, a decent running game, and Thomas and Kelly start clicking with him, then he could be good. He will not be Top 10, or Top 15, but he will be a good starter. That's a lot of ifs, but he has the Shanahans to work with. If he fails there, he's doomed to backup duty for the rest of his career.
-Powerful OL that gets push off the snap
-Decent run game
-Tall receivers that have worked with the QB
-Straightforward offensive playcalling
Three of these are in place. The OL comes together, we could see a different JC people. Sorry for the length, but I needed to get this noticed somewhere.

Good post
You seem during it you like JC but are willing to admit his downfalls

Wash, Jason Campbell is a top 15 Qb despite the fact that we have a horrible Offensive line.
To say that he will never be a top 15 QB is pure stupidity. I am curious does anyone check out NFL.com ? Jason Campbell’s QB rating puts him at # 15 and his passing rating puts him at #14.
Please people try and understand just how good your QB Jason Campbell can be with a running game and some blocking. Why is this so hard for some of you to understand this? Look at Tom Brady his Qb rating was 49.1 against the Ravens. The amazing thing about this is he was only hit a fraction of the times that Jason was during a game.

hahahahahahha
Knew it wouldnt take you long for you to snipe.. like he said “Nothing new”. We all can sit here and speculate as to what is gonna happen next season. I really enjoy all of the “2010 Draft possiblilities” and the posts about FAs over rookies but we all just need to realize that everything has to be rebuilt before any player choices are made. I can promise you that the staff they are putting together will create the best team possible and each year here after will get better and better. I have a feeling that we will ALL be pleasantly surprised.
"When the rich wage WAR its the POOR that die!!!"
Not a bad post LJP.
I have to agree with the majority of this. I was looking yesterday at the FA options(I posted on this also) at OL this offseason, and they are very limited. I agree, a swingman, or a solid G would be the likely scenerio in FA, and a stud OT in the draft is certainly needed. If we can get those 2 pieces, and grab a RB and another linemen, we just may have the makings of something descent for the future. I still wouldn’t mind picking up a Colt McCoy in the second if he was there; because as you eluded to with JC, you just never know.
Campbell-BYE-BYE-BYE,WILL USE YOUR PICK ON FUTURE QB IN DRAFT
C.McCoy and T.Tebow will be there in 2nd round of draft, will be a steal if we get 1 of them.

NO
No QB is the 1st, 2nd, 3rd rounds. None of the QBs coming out this year are going to be all that good in the NFL. Don’t be desperate Mr Allen.
How in the hell can you make this comment?
Maybe instead of being a professional fan, you can get a front office job as a NFL scout, since you seem to be able to see into the future. No one can predict these things with college QB’s.
Excellent Analysis
Honest & true, not fanatical…
with a common-sense approach to the current state and projected future state of Jason Campbell and the Redskins Offense.
Each indivdual QB is slightly different and works effectively or not with the offensive system depending on the players around them but the dynamics of the system as well as the QB performance comes into play as to the overall performance.
While rebuilding the line, running game and offensive philosophy JC should remain the QB.
well said but not new
From the forums I’ve read most people have this same opinion. While Campbell is our best current option, he’s not an elite QB, but then again 98% of the QB aren’t. Plenty of non elite QBs have won Super Bowls so it’s not like Campbell alone will determine our success.
The funny thing is...
Campbell was a top 15 quarterback THIS year (86.4 QB rating…which ranked 15th). If you were able to cut out half of his QB hits and sacks…who knows where the Skins would be. Probably 8-8.
"It was one of those things where everyone in the building was suddenly excited again," Cerrato said. "And all the women in the building were the most excited. They couldn't believe we were getting the guy from "Dancing With the Stars."
if QB rating were the only criteria
but it’s not. There were several games this year where an elite QB could have pulled out a win and Campbell didn’t.
You sir just Hate Campbell with a statement like that
A team will win or lose a game not one player….
Peyton Manning is a beast
never been a Colts fan really, but I respect that man. Seems like he could pull a snowball out of Satan’s ass if it got him the win with less than 2 minutes less.
SpottieOttieDopaliscious
everyone is in LJPs eyes unless
they agree that Campbell is better than Tom Brady.
So I guess you can add me to the list even though in every post I’ve stated I think Campbell is our best option.
Season review: Quarterbacks By: John Keim
http://tinyurl.com/yapswt9. Keim looked at Jason’s season as a changing phenomena as it moved on. His analysis was that Jason improved (see the details). He rated Jason as an overall “B” – first half “C,” second half “A”. I basically concur with Keim’s assessment.
Keim did not think higher quarterbacks with better offensive lines could have done much better with the Skins OL
key comment
“Maybe others could have done better; but many would have fared worse.”
As I’ve said elsewhere, Campbell is our best option right now but he’s not an elite NFL QB. But I know that will be miscontstrued so that I’m a “Campbell hater”.
System and playcalling
are factors for the poor performance of the entire offense this year too and that effects everyone’s statistics. I think Santanna Moss can still be very productive if he’s allowed to go back to running the routes he used to run and we get away from this WCO nonsense.

aFan, We saw what Tom Brady looked like with getting hit just a little bit and without his "gamechanger" Wes Welker. How would he have looked playing for the Redskins he is to slow to avoid the "jail break" blitz that Jason Had to deal with this year
by LETJASONPASS on Jan 11, 2010 6:00 PM EST up reply actions
very true LJP
that is Brady’s problem exspecially after his injury.. He is affraid of the blitz. Thats why he needs that dependable dump off.
"When the rich wage WAR its the POOR that die!!!"
I'm not sure if it's been asked before.
But will Michael Vick be available? Maybe we should look at him…
:)
He will be.
The Eagles have an option on him, but all indications are they will not excercise it. 5.5M
qb
Some off you are in a dream world if you think jc will take us to the playoff .Never happen cb good backup.
Ummmmm dude we already got to the playoffs with Campbell
sorry but its true…
