Unfair to Colt Brennan?
Colt Brennan is probably better off not starting at this point in his career, but this IR thing doesn't seem fair to him. He is basically fine, but the Skins are keeping him under contract and out of play for 2009, just so they can include some more-likely-to-play guys on their 53 man roster. I see it strategically from their point of view, and I'm a fan, but I feel bad for Brennan that a year of possible play is taken away from him. If you're second or third string, there's at least a chance you'll play.

this is
an old Gibbs trick. Colt will be fine. He admitted that the hip thing was causing the hamstring problems. If he’s smart, he’ll spend the time learning the playbook inside and out. Then, when he can start moving, he can work on his footwork. He wasn’t gonna have any impact this year, but, if he shows them how hard he’s working AND shows progress, he could earn the #2 next year. He should probably get a new life coach as well.

Not necessarily

Quarterback Colt Brennan often said he would not make excuses for his poor performance during the preseason.
As I’m finding out now, it appears Brennan had, at least in part, one legitimate excuse: a left hip injury. Brennan suffered the injury in the Redskins’ preseason opener Aug. 13 against the Baltimore Ravens at M&T Bank Stadium.
The Redskins did not reveal the injury when it occurred, and Brennan – who had surgery to repair a slightly torn labrum in his right hip in April 2008 – continued to play despite the discomfort. But the injury had an effect on Brennan’s mechanics, a league source told me today, and made it harder for him to operate within the offense.
So evidentially Brennan’s injury was more of a concern than we all thought. The injury was severe enough for it to hinder his play within the offense. I’m not 100% sure it was necessary for him to be put on IR, but the injury seems to be more hurtful to him than we all knew.
wah wah
If anything, they’re sparing him right now. The way he was playing this offseason/preseason, no one should have been surprised to see him get cut. The team expected him to compete for the #2 spot on the depth chart. Instead, he had to fight off Chase Daniels to even keep a job, which he kind of kept, but not really.

for playing a game and call it whatever you want, fair, unfair, I won’t care.
The other side of the coin
This was a nice move on management’s part. They get Colt healthy and keep him with the team. But the real up side to this is it has to make Jason feel better that his potential replacement is not sitting on the bench behind him. High marks all around.
