A look ahead
I know this is premature and its only a conversation piece. Who does everyone like RIGHT NOW in college to be our first pick next year? I must say, I'm salivating over Taylor Mays, safety USC. He reminds so much of Sean Taylor. Sean was more athletic IMO though. But as a safety Taylor Mays is a punisher. Dont take this the wrong way, Sean Taylor will always be my personal favorite at that position and to me he is irreplaceable but its always nice to dream.

I think we got all the depth we need at safety right now, laron, horton, reed, moore i’m not to high on he seems more interested in making the big play than playing his role. Lets not forget about Lendy Holmes, is he leading the team in tackles? I can’t remember but I believe he’s been having a strong camp and preseason

he may end up getting cut anyways, because of the depth we have

O-linemen
Best available.
I'm worried about the beer supply. After this case, and the other case, there's only one case left- Barney Gumble

Charles Scott, RB, LSU
I like the look of Taylor Mays, obviously. But I’m happy with our depth at both safety positions. And Mays is projected top 10 right now, where I don’t expect us to be (though rankings a year away are pretty useless).
No secret that Portis is getting up there in age, so I think it would be smart to draft a running back to learn behind him for a year or two. Charles Scott is around the same height and weight, with a similar play style, and projected in the late first round (again, pointless, but where I expect the Redskins to be).

would you really wanna spend a 1st round on a rb?
we can get quality lineman and other positions, and still get a quality running back in the later rounds.

Offensive Lineman
Like CptChaosSidekick has said, I think we have to draft the best offensive lineman available. As of right now that is our biggest need. Our offensive line is one of the oldest (could be the oldest, not sure) lines in the league, and even though they’ve looked pretty good in the preseason they’re still regarded as the weakest point on our team. What offensive lineman we could possibly pick is beyond me because I don’t look at college football one bit.

if we don't
draft SEVEN offensive linemen next year I will be extremely disappointed. We have paid so little attention to the O-line in the past 10 years, it is pitiful. Much is constantly made of the number of QB’s who have come and gone around here. How many of them do you think there would have been had we had HOGS?
Yes we need RB’s. (Though, some people on here would say Marcus Mason can fill that hole) But they can be found later or, if need be, in FA. Either way, it won’t matter without an O-line. The rest of our weaknesses this year have become strengths (D-line, LB, WR). Which leaves QB. I’m not gonna get into the Campbell debate AGAIN. All I’m gonna say is that if we have a rookie QB next year, the season will be written off, and will probably be the last for Portis, Moss, ARE, Samuels, R. Thomas, Rabach, etc, etc, etc.
Bottom line – you build an offense around your line. None of the other positions matter before that.

One – Jeff George.

Brandon Spikes, LB, Florida
While we all know we need o-line help, and I’ve personally heard some good things about Ciron Black in the first, there are a few other areas we really should draft. Our line backing core while possibly improved with a converted college DE still has a few question marks. While some like Blades in the middle, I think its worth looking in the draft to try and fill out the unit with more young talent. I mean if our d-line does ever get to be as dominant as we hope, it would be a waste not develop the rest of our front seven. I personally like Spike’s fire, and if we’re not in a position to get a worthy o-lineman in the first we should just go BPA.

tough call
We haven’t even played week one and you’re making a call on a position that we have quite a lot of depth on. Horton impressed me too much last year so I’m not sold on writing him off. We obviously need depth on the O-line, it hurt us the most last year and was only moderately upgraded during the off-season. The three starters we need to look at this season are Campbell, Heyer and Orakpo. I believe Campbell will have good season, Orakpo and Heyer are the real 2 question marks. Orakpo is learning a new position and I think Heyer won’t be all that great. If I’m wrong about this then that’s even better, we could add depth at another position on the o-line instead, which we desperately need.

I want to
help you out here before you get attacked. I’m hoping guessing that you are saying Orakpo is a question mark at LINEBACKER. If that’s what you mean, I agree. I think he has the talent, smarts and ability to make the switch. I hope I’m right. If not, I hope the team is smart enough to end the experiment and put him at DE. I know it’s early, but I think he is a better DE than either guy we have now. Obviously the right side is a better fit for him, and I would jettison Carter in a heartbeat if need be. But here’s to hoping that he becomes the monster we all envision at SLB.
