Hmmmm... Interesting

Vinny Cerrato was on ESPN 980 yesterday and spoke about the potential 53 man roster. Here's what he said:

Via D.C. Sports Bog

He said "there's a good chance" of the team keeping a fifth running back. His radio voice made it seem like a very good chance.

"I would say that's probably, there's a good chance of that," he said. "Because what you want to do Kevin, it'll probably be 25 on offense, 25 on defense and three specialists. So it's just how you want to divide your numbers. If you want to go less at one position then you make it up on the practice squad by adding more at that position and less at the position you keep more at. So it's probably the same number of bodies, but some may be on the practice squad and not on the regular squad."

Can anyone say Marcus Mason, 5th running back? (CJHutch has said it one or two hundred times lately)

But Wait!... There's more! This is what Cerrato said in regard to there being a surprise move.

"I think there's a chance that you guys may be surprised about something," he said. "You'll just kind of wonder about it, but then you may say, 'Hmm, you know what, when you think about it, it's probably right.' "

Hmmmm... interesting...

I have no clue as to what the surprise move may be. Hopefully it'll end up being a "yes, finally he's gone!" surprise move and not a "what the hell are you doing?" surprise move. I'm not even going to try and think like Vinny Cerrato. I'll leave the guessing open to you all. How does this change your 53 man roster? Does this change it at all? Will Vinny Cerrato every be liked by anyone beside Snyder? Will Kevin and Sugar ever profess their love for one another? Will CJHutch's mancrush on Marcus Mason continue if Mason makes the team? How many times will this comment be posted on tonight's game thread?

I like what's happening

I like being in the game against a good team. That speaks well of our starters. Need to see them keep it up coming out.

Most importantly, will Kevin be able to get Sugar to wear that yellow cheerleader's outfit he bought him?

All of this and more will be answered on the next episode of... just joking :-)

Oh, and when asked what Denver wanted in order to obtain Brandon Marshall, Cerrato said this:

"I don't have the faintest idea," Cerrato said. "We like our locker room."

Is Cerrato defining Sellers as one of the RBs?

Because some personnel ppl lump FBs in with TEs, not with HBs. If he’s saying 5 RBs and not considering Sellers one of them, that’d be even more interesting.

I think so

I think Cerrato was putting Sellers into the RB group. The five man group would include Portis, Betts, Cartwright, Sellers and the mystery fifth running back.

Oh OK

Because I wouldn’t mind cutting Yoder, classifying Sellers w/ the TEs, and having room for 5 HBs. They’ve apparently all been looking good to the coaches this offseason (with the slight exception of Dorsey, who has been injured too much).

Who wants to bet

that the “surprise” he’s talking about is referring to who our 3rd string quarterback will be. (Or he’s referring to him keeping all the people he drafted)
I also don’t believe it will be Mason that makes the team, but AA. There’s liability with his injuries, but I think he’ll shine tonight against the jags and earn himself a roster spot.
I don’t care who the 5th running back is, as long as their decision is based solely on who would contribute the most to this team.

The surprise is...

We traded Cooley and our 1st round pick next year for Tavaris Jackson.

whoops spoiled it

I as well would like to see us keep AA

His speed is dynamic and he is the only true change of pace(from Portis) back we have.

You guys all

act like I LIKE Marcus Mason. I told you, he just promised me tickets to the met preseason game if he makes the team.

by CJHutch on Sep 3, 2009 3:08 PM EDT reply actions

I kinda like Mason I just think he’s in a tough spot to make the team due to our current roster and needs.

I think the surprise he's talking about is...

We’re trading next years second round draft pick for…. Wait for it….. JASON TAYLOR!!!!

I'll second that it's probably Aldridge

JReid wrote that Vinny is “raving about” him and that “if Alridge makes the team, Cerrato would have had a big hand in making it happen.”

Alridge

Maybe they want him on the team for whenever Mike Shanahan takes over week 9. sigh
