Game Preview: Washington Redskins vs Jacksonville Jaguars
TV:

Radio: 980 AM, 730 AM (Spanish), 94.3 FM and 92.7 FMThursday, September 3, 7:30PM
Jacksonville Muncipal Stadium
(Didn't get the memo it's no longer Altell Stadium)Weather: It's Florida...Perfect...High 70s
Not expected to play: LondonFletcher, Carlos Rogers, Albert Haynesworth, Clinton Portis, Randy Thomas
What I am watching for:
1.) Colt vs Chase - Week 4 of pre-season is the Super Bowl of meaningless games, so the excitement level is not too high. I'm 99.9% sure Colt has the 3rd spot locked up, but what fun is that? I expect Colt will shine.
2.) HITTING. A lot of these guys are playing for jobs, so you know they'll be letting it all out. I want to see Rayner take someone out.
3.) Kickers - I would love for Comcast/NBC to put a split camera up when one kicker is kicking and the other is watching tentatively. I would expect if Rayner nails a 44 yarder, you'd see Suisham make a grimacing face (and vice versa).
4.) Beards - Al lot of the Jaguars are growing beards for team unity, including Jack Del Rio [USAToday]
The Redskins have to cut 22 players to get their roster down to 53 by this Saturday, Sept. 5. Then the team can set an 8-player practice squad of rookies and first-year players.
Rock Cartwright is in the starting lineup for kick returns and Randle-El is also penciled in as the starting #2. Am I the only one worried about Carlos' calf injury? Calf injuries have killed the Redskins the last few years (Shawn Springs and Jason Taylor).
What will you be watching for?

Boring
Kicker competition and 3rd string QB battle do not intrigue me the least. The beards are probably the only thing that will have me tuning in briefly this evening.

I apologize
I’m sorry I don’t get hyped up about who our 3rd string QB will be or who our kicker will be. Perhaps I should drink some red bull and screem at the television ever time the kicker that I like hits a FG, or the 3rd string QB that I love throws a TD pass against defensive players who won’t even be in the NFL come week one of the regular season.

O don’t worry man we’ll fill you in on what happened and who makes the team and why. I don’t know why I fan of a team would want to see that team compete and who actually makes on the team, damn what the hell was I thinking.

Ok-It practice
No one is competing here and I too do not go out of my way to watch a preseason game, except the 3rd game which typically sets the standard for what the season will bring.
2008: Bad showing against Carolina
2009: good showing against New England

Anything Redskins related I'm watching
I love the Redskins so I seriously get excited for even the preseason games, including the one tonight. So once the regular season starts expect me to have a mini orgasm.

+1
I'm worried about the beer supply. After this case, and the other case, there's only one case left- Barney Gumble

I'm watching
cuz I’m STILL waiting to see Keith Elois jump over a D-lineman. Also, I want to see David Garrard. Ya know, there’s a good chance……ah nevermind.

On to the regular season
Let the orgasms begin. Kevin, I don’t think it’s fair to evaluate the playcalling of Jim Zorn in pre-season game 4. Basically, all Zorn is trying to do is call plays to evaluate what certain players are capable of. I expect his playcalling during the regular season will be MUCH different since his motivation for playcalling will be to win a game rather than to evaluate specific players. Those are two completely different drivers behind the plays that are called. Same thing in Philly. One thing I did take away from this game was the BEAUTIFUL deep ball that Campbell threw to Randel El. It appears Randle El got a case of aligator arms as he braced for the hit from the safety otherwise I think he would have caught that ball. Granted it was a tough catch due to his vision being screened by the defenders, but Campbell definitely threaded the needle on that one.

Who doesn't love a kick off?
I say we go for no TDs just kick from the 30 every time.
I don’t think there is any way in hell that they will cut Colt. Even if Chase throws a couple of TDs and Colt looks like he has all preseason, throwing big picks. I just think Colt is really marketable and he makes Danny some money with jerseys, etc. Plus if he was cut it would ruin the Danny’s addition of the Luau Burger at Johnny Rockets.

Brennan v Daniels
Daniels has practice squad written all over him. I sort of hope he doesn’t play that well just so he makes it there. Next season, we can have a legit battle for the No. 2 spot (after Campbell’s pro bowl season).

Practice Squad
I’d rather we use a spot on it for someone we might actually use instead of having it occupied by a 4th QB.

Like whom?
I think there’s a definite potential for benefit by keeping Daniels around for another year — familiarity with the system, players, etc. (Of course, this assumes that Zorn will be back for 2010-11).

Who knows
We might actually use Daniels, at least by next year. Todd Collins will turn 38 in November! So how much longer do you anticipate him playing for us? Maybe Todd Collins will play until he’s 83 like Vinny Testaverde, I don’t know, but I don’t expect Todd Collins to be here for much longer.

Practice squad is practice players not team players
The practice squad is just that players the Redskins use in practice, but ANY of the 32 teams can sign a player at any time without talking to Redskins. All players must pass waivers prior to going onto the practice squad.
It’s nothing more than practice players who sometimes move forward enough to make the 53 man roster

I’m looking for:
- No injuries!
- Carlos Rodgers to perform well and not have a setback with his calf.
- Anthony Alridge to maintain or even build upon his ridiculous 5.4 yd/avg.
- Marco Mitchell to take another step forward or at least not take a step back.
- Mike Williams to show why he should make the team.
- Jeremy Jarmon to get a sack.
- Justin Tryon to improve and maybe even get a pick.

did they make a decision on whether carlos was playing or not?
I'm to young to Die Danny...don't make me do it tomorrow....

I would doubt he would play...
I think the good news is we shouldn’t have to worry about his matchups in the regular season right away. The Giants don’t need have any primetime threats to really worry about. It will be interesting to see who we put on Avery from STL and I’d imagine DHall would cover Johnson in Detroit. It seems like DHall is going to draw most of the bigger/better receivers.
Steve Smith and Somewhere over Dwayne Bowe, should be interesting matchups for us.

matchups I’m not really looking forward too.

I'm worried
about Carlos’ injury. I’ve had nagging calf injuries before and they’re some nasty shit.
Also, I’m back.

Yeah,
been more involved with the Dbacks over the past couple months, but now we’re getting back to Redskins season.

Does this mean I have to shave off my Beard now?
I don’t wanna look like I’m in solidarity with the lowly Jags

Not only that,
but beards are usually Communist. (See 1970s/1960s Latin American facial hair. Commies always grew beards, while Capitalists grew mustaches.)

I've always felt......
that you can’t trust a man with a beard. Behind every beard is a mustache and you DEFINITELY can’t trust a man with a mustache.

Definitely concerned about Rogers
I think he’s our best corner and not having him will leave a big hole.
RAK EM UP!

Agreed, I don’t trust D Hall for covering. I think Carlos is a better shutdown guy but Hall is obviously better at getting turnovers. But to think that Smoot and Hall could start at CB is scary to me, I think we’d get thrown all over if that was to happen.
I don’t think other teams respect our corners at all. IMO It’s our weakest position on D (not that they’re horrible).
