Injury Report: (after the jump...everyone healthy for WAS)

It's hard to believe the Redskins have only hosted one playoff game at Fedex, yet it was against the Lions. Redskins have owned Detroit with a 27-10 career record. The Skins have a 0 +/- ratio for turnovers while Detroit has a -2 ratio (thanks to Stafford's five pickles through 2 games). There's no reason the Redskins shouldn't get at least two on Sunday. I really envision one sack fumble and some easy interceptions due to bad decisions from a hurried rush. Orakpo was on the Lavar Arrington show on Friday, and he is ITCHING to get that first sack in the books.

As for all the experts picking the Lions, they're going to get embarrassed on Sunday. There is simply too much talent on the Redskins. Zorn has remained professional through all the media questions about being on the hot seat. The Redskins are CLEARLY not taking this game lightly and that will show. Even though the Redskins squeaked out a win in DET last year, they still put up huge numbers:

JASON CAMPBELL: 2-0 vs. the Lions with 126.3 passer rating.  He's posted his 2 highest rated games of his career against the Lions (127.4, 125.3) & aims for 3rd in row vs. Detroit with 125+ rating

SANTANA MOSS: I50-yard rec. TD & 80-yard PR-TD.  Finished with 9 catches for 140 yards.

CLINTON PORTIS: Rushed for 345 yards (115 per game) in 3 career meetings.

My Prediction: Redskins 33 - Lions 13

HTTR.

Moss is finding a lot of space

by snowburnt on Sep 27, 2009 1:15 PM EDT reply actions

nice grab by kelley

by snowburnt on Sep 27, 2009 1:16 PM EDT reply actions

Wow, grabs by Moss, Thomas AND Kelly. And in the same drive!?

by superjuan on Sep 27, 2009 1:17 PM EDT reply actions

they threw

the Fade!! Woo hoo. Prob’ly won’t do it again since it didn’t work

by CJHutch on Sep 27, 2009 1:17 PM EDT reply actions

but they’ll do a few more half-back options cause they’re fun

by snowburnt on Sep 27, 2009 1:18 PM EDT up reply actions

yeah

especially for the defense

by CJHutch on Sep 27, 2009 1:20 PM EDT up reply actions

Oh boy

Is this gonna be another FG?

I’m looking for a HB option.

by superjuan on Sep 27, 2009 1:19 PM EDT up reply actions

here we go

stupid draw play, even dumber time out. Better score after TO

by CJHutch on Sep 27, 2009 1:19 PM EDT up reply actions

fake field goal on 3rd down

by snowburnt on Sep 27, 2009 1:19 PM EDT up reply actions

naaa

even if we miss, I’ll take our defense against the rook at the 2

by CJHutch on Sep 27, 2009 1:22 PM EDT up reply actions

even if they make it, it's a dumb move to go for it

I love our Def at this spot and know they won’t drive it on us, that’s not the point though. If they go for it it shows me that Zorn is feeling the heat from the fans and the press about their red zone struggles, he should do the correct thing and kick the field goal, we will score TD’s later.

by tourist178 on Sep 27, 2009 1:24 PM EDT up reply actions

I don't mind

going for it, but this is Zorn feeling the heat. He KNOWS they have to get TD’s

by CJHutch on Sep 27, 2009 1:22 PM EDT up reply actions

or he thinks we’re getting 5 downs

by snowburnt on Sep 27, 2009 1:23 PM EDT up reply actions

another f’ing outside run

by snowburnt on Sep 27, 2009 1:24 PM EDT reply actions

I’m torn. I hate the play call, but I like the ballsyness.

by superjuan on Sep 27, 2009 1:25 PM EDT up reply actions

if he really had balls he’d call a play up the gut or something that had a chance to get in the end-zone

by snowburnt on Sep 27, 2009 1:26 PM EDT up reply actions

Why didn't we pass

When it was obvious they were geared towards stopping the run

by bigrm18 on Sep 27, 2009 1:24 PM EDT reply actions

yes, especially if it leads to a touchdown

//can you smell the sarcasm

it was dumb

you are on the one yard line run between the damn tackles..

by confederate_gent on Sep 27, 2009 1:28 PM EDT up reply actions

I feel like JC needs to step up and call an audible there

by snowburnt on Sep 27, 2009 1:25 PM EDT up reply actions

why did we

extend Sellers if he can’t block one yard for us?

by CJHutch on Sep 27, 2009 1:26 PM EDT up reply actions

that play call turned a 1 yard rush into a 5 yard rush

by snowburnt on Sep 27, 2009 1:28 PM EDT up reply actions

im in

sorry…dropped the ball

by Kevin Ewoldt on Sep 27, 2009 1:40 PM EDT reply actions

maybe we should change the saying “dropped the ball” to “let the Lions drive 99 yards.”

by superjuan on Sep 27, 2009 1:42 PM EDT up reply actions

Zorn should be fired after this game

His play-calling is idiotic, the team knows he is shit and doesn’t seem to show up for him against the Motor City Kittens. I would rather take an impetuous decision to fire him early before it gets more poisonous and offensive to fans than keep him on in some ethereal belief in “stick with him”. I am so sick of this guy

by Grand Tanyon Sturtze on Sep 27, 2009 1:43 PM EDT reply actions

funny

what happens when you HIT the quarterback

by CJHutch on Sep 27, 2009 1:48 PM EDT reply actions

cool

now they only hafta go 95 yards. Will look better for our defense

by CJHutch on Sep 27, 2009 1:50 PM EDT reply actions

Am I in the twilight zone right now?

What is going on? Our defense looks like garbage.

by bigrm18 on Sep 27, 2009 1:52 PM EDT reply actions

we really are

a bad team, aren’t we? We’ve been stopping the gut runs until now

by CJHutch on Sep 27, 2009 1:52 PM EDT reply actions

I swear if I read another long post

detailing how we should just be patient, I will be sick to my stomach

by Grand Tanyon Sturtze on Sep 27, 2009 1:53 PM EDT reply actions

it’s not like we are reading tea leaves to recognize that this guy Zorn sucks ass

by Grand Tanyon Sturtze on Sep 27, 2009 1:53 PM EDT up reply actions

Okay

Now I’m calling out Blache, something just isn’t right at all.

by bigrm18 on Sep 27, 2009 1:54 PM EDT reply actions

I can't believe all those

dumbasses who picked Detroit to beat us in a squeaker

by CJHutch on Sep 27, 2009 1:54 PM EDT reply actions

why?

by the way we are playing they will blow us out?

by confederate_gent on Sep 27, 2009 1:56 PM EDT up reply actions

Believe me

Danny’s already calling them right now. His private jet is being sent out to pick one of them up.

by bigrm18 on Sep 27, 2009 1:56 PM EDT up reply actions

i hope daniel snyder reads these posts

, or at least someone prints them out and shows him

by Grand Tanyon Sturtze on Sep 27, 2009 1:58 PM EDT up reply actions

HA! Do you honestly

Think Snyder needs persuasion from fans to change head coaches?

by bigrm18 on Sep 27, 2009 1:59 PM EDT up reply actions

excellent point

at this point I am so fu*king sick of Zorn’s humiliating leadership and game-calling that anything which can expedite this process of getting him out, and someone else in, is what I want

by Grand Tanyon Sturtze on Sep 27, 2009 2:02 PM EDT up reply actions

I think Danny needs to give up…either sell the team or hand the reigns to someone else. Change isn’t gonna happen unless he’s out of power

by snowburnt on Sep 27, 2009 2:39 PM EDT up reply actions

its been that way for years now

by bane007 on Sep 27, 2009 2:40 PM EDT up reply actions

if Stafford

was any good, we’d be getting killed

by CJHutch on Sep 27, 2009 1:56 PM EDT reply actions

I really

didn’t think we were this bad.

by CJHutch on Sep 27, 2009 2:00 PM EDT reply actions

A lot of people

Were saying it would be a disaster to change coaches mid-season. Can it really be any worse than losing to the Lions?

by bigrm18 on Sep 27, 2009 2:00 PM EDT reply actions

Is anyone "truly" surprised so far?

Im not really. What has the offense proven?

by ACo on Sep 27, 2009 2:01 PM EDT reply actions

I’m surprised the defense has laid down for a 99 yard drive and now a 65 yard drive.

by superjuan on Sep 27, 2009 2:02 PM EDT up reply actions

I have to admit

I am surprised. I knew we were struggling, but I didn’t know we were awful.

by CJHutch on Sep 27, 2009 2:02 PM EDT up reply actions

I'm more

Surprised by the defense. We’re letting them any and everything they want to. Maybe it’s execution, but I’m really disappointed in Blache as much as Zorn right now.

by bigrm18 on Sep 27, 2009 2:03 PM EDT up reply actions

Haynesworth hurt?

Wow. Just Wow.

by superjuan on Sep 27, 2009 2:02 PM EDT reply actions

With a sack that good, why bother getting up?

The Daily Forehand -- SB Nation's Tennis Destination.

by Ben Rothenberg on Sep 27, 2009 2:02 PM EDT reply actions

I think

he gets hurt everytime he makes a big play. Someone tell him they’re kicking a FG, he doesn’t hafta come back out for another 2 minutes

by CJHutch on Sep 27, 2009 2:03 PM EDT up reply actions

I am retiring from watching this on Gamechannel, this team and Jim Zorn make me beyond pissed, and if he is not fired after this game I will not watch them live or on TV again until that happens

by Grand Tanyon Sturtze on Sep 27, 2009 2:07 PM EDT reply actions

technically

that would not be after the game and you can never watch a Redskins game, because he was not fired after the game

by a hay on Sep 28, 2009 1:48 AM EDT up reply actions

I don't think

the Lions fans know what to do. They are dominating someone

by CJHutch on Sep 27, 2009 2:09 PM EDT reply actions

At the very least, we know the Lions have been here before, since they were beating the Vikings 10-0 last week.

Too bad we don’t have the offense the Vikings have…

by superjuan on Sep 27, 2009 2:14 PM EDT up reply actions

WTF is up...

With being a yard short on every 3rd down.

by superjuan on Sep 27, 2009 2:10 PM EDT reply actions

we're making progress

now they only have to go 85 yards

by CJHutch on Sep 27, 2009 2:12 PM EDT reply actions

If we lose this game we’ll never hear the end of it. It would be worse than getting swept the Cowboys.

by Facestealer on Sep 27, 2009 2:12 PM EDT reply actions

by bane007 on Sep 27, 2009 2:13 PM EDT reply actions

hands on hips already. Fletcher looks tired

by CJHutch on Sep 27, 2009 2:16 PM EDT reply actions

I don't know

why they don’t just skip right to 3rd down. Big play every time

by CJHutch on Sep 27, 2009 2:18 PM EDT reply actions

I don't know

what’s worse. Our offense or our defense

by CJHutch on Sep 27, 2009 2:19 PM EDT reply actions

Uh, I was told there wouldn’t be any math.

by superjuan on Sep 27, 2009 2:22 PM EDT up reply actions

Why people say that the better team doesn’t always win

by bigrm18 on Sep 27, 2009 2:20 PM EDT reply actions

what makes

you say that? I’d say they’re loads better than us right now.

by CJHutch on Sep 27, 2009 2:21 PM EDT up reply actions

Well

They’re definitely playing better but are they really more talented than us? They’re an 0-19 team for a reason.

by bigrm18 on Sep 27, 2009 2:22 PM EDT up reply actions

Our Defense truly isnt that good. Unless someone says otherwise, they are not even in the top 15 best.

which means

Blache isn’t even a good option to take over

by CJHutch on Sep 27, 2009 2:30 PM EDT up reply actions

Based on today's performance

They aren’t top 20. However, there’s no way you can convince me that we somehow got worse on defense this year when we were 4th last year. Right now, I’m hating Blache as much as I’m hating Zorn. And I never thought I would say that.

by bigrm18 on Sep 27, 2009 2:31 PM EDT up reply actions

me too

we play too conservative on both sides.

by CJHutch on Sep 27, 2009 2:32 PM EDT up reply actions

No Haynesworth, no Orakpo? We’re worse now

I might sound a little crazy but...

How would you feel if BMitch were hired as head coach? I think he has a similar mindset as Mike Singletary and would tell the team if they were playing like crap, instead of Zorn saying that we fought hard when we lost to the Lions. I know this won’t happen, but I’m just going over all of the possibilities right now.

by bigrm18 on Sep 27, 2009 4:41 PM EDT reply actions

First – Snyder doesn’t like him.

Second – I think B Mitch would rather throw darts than catch them

by CJHutch on Sep 27, 2009 4:43 PM EDT up reply actions

Well

What I should have said was that I want a head coach with the personality of BMitch or Singletary- a tell it like it is coach that doesn’t take any crap and is willing to go all out to get the win. That’s what this team needs.

by bigrm18 on Sep 27, 2009 4:47 PM EDT up reply actions

his play-calling at the end was straight from the pansy old man prevent. Never rushed more than 4 and the last few plays only rushed 3. Completely balless playcalling on D.

Nah, I don’t think he’ll get canned. But this is just one more nail in his coffin. Not that anything has changed: he needs to go deep in the playoffs or he’s gone. Same with Campbell. Now, if we’re sitting at 1-4, 2-5?…

by soup du jour on Sep 27, 2009 5:27 PM EDT up reply actions

I agree

It just sucks. I really think this team has the talent to make the playoffs. But Zorn is clueless sometimes. I readily admitted that we were bad under Spurrier. I’m just flabbergasted because I truly did not think we were THIS bad.

by CJHutch on Sep 27, 2009 5:31 PM EDT up reply actions

I agree

We are awful. There is no question that getting rid of Zorn is the first step, for the first time Snyder moving briskly to make a move will be in the best interest of the organization.

by Grand Tanyon Sturtze on Sep 27, 2009 5:46 PM EDT up reply actions

and Blache

I thought that he sounded like an old fool when he insisted that the defense was incredible because of our rankings despite the incredibly conspicuous lack of turnovers OR sacks. We should have been in the Detroit backfield all day, but instead we can’t even stop what was the worst team in the NFL from marching down the field in the air and on the ground.

by Grand Tanyon Sturtze on Sep 27, 2009 5:48 PM EDT up reply actions

he should be gone too

the defense is living in the stone-age if turnovers and a significantly higher sack total are not in the making, we have so much money invested and I don’t think we should reflexively worship old man Blache simply because he picked a fight with a dopey reporter, he needs to be canned too, a new coach hired, with a completely new staff. I know I’ve ranted earlier, and won’t anymore, but this head coach is trash, and his associate coaches are likewise garbage.

by Grand Tanyon Sturtze on Sep 27, 2009 5:50 PM EDT up reply actions

Screw the Zorn apologists

who say come on, the Lions are much better this year, and frame the debate as if the intelligent desire to get RID of Zorn is based on an impetuous reaction to just one game. Snide fools. As a Skins fan it incenses me that we’ve let it go this far. This game is a summation of what we have had and what our future will be with Jim Zorn. Do you think, as he learns on the job, that he will be able to both teach himself how to be a head coach AND gain all of the ground Andy Reid, Tom Coughlin, and (even) Wade Phillips have on him in terms of both their inherently superior coaching skills + as their strategies get more honed as the season goes on & they know how to work their personnel to maximize their teams’ abilities? I realize that was a run on sentence, but bear with me. COME ON. We need to wake up and wash our hands of this piece of garbage wearing hte coach’s uniform and disgracing our organization, our fans, and the number of great players we have on our roster this year, whom are too numerous to lose like we have been, leading up to our loss to the Detroit Lions.

by Grand Tanyon Sturtze on Sep 27, 2009 5:40 PM EDT reply actions

a bunch of goddam* apologists, Campbell: “the Lions are better this year,” what kind of statement is that? Absolutely pathetic excuse for a team that has personnel way too talented to lose to that bunch. That’s what they implied when we beat the Rams with a score more deserving of an MLB game. Every team is going to be better this year with Zorn making the game-call.

Please Daniel Snyder, for the first time in Redskins history under your authority, moving briskly will be a great thing. Can this Carlesimo of football Jim Zorn and repair your franchise with a head coach with a legitimate NFL CV.
