Malcolm Kelly - 44
Devin Thomas - 17

All these young guys are on the field, they're just not making plays. Week 3 = Breakout?

DT could have made one...

I'm to young to Die Danny...don't make me do it tomorrow....

Yeah

I don’t mind laying the blame on Thomas for the TD, but that stuff happens. My problem is those guys can’t make plays if they don’t get the ball. Maybe Jason isn’t looking for them, I dunno. He seems to throw to ARE and Cooley a lot.

BUT, the biggest thing, is that ALL those guys need to be in in the red zone at some point. I actually think that Mitchell or Kelly would’ve caught that Portis pass.

There was one

to El in the right corner that drew a flag that was picked up. It may have been a broken play, but he was going for the corner. All JC had to do was get it close to El and we were first and goal. But in typical JC fashion, he throw the ball into the stands instead of taking a small risk and putting the ball were only El could get it. El should not be in the game for that route and JC should take a little more risk.

No wonder

It all makes sense now

by bigrm18 on Sep 22, 2009 12:13 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

yep

Danny needs to go to an MMA event and bring in Michael Westbrook, then go get the headbanger from whatever bench he’s sitting on, and teach these guys the value of a fade route.

Zorn insisted in his Monday news conference that they did

All the reporters were kind of dumb-founded, as was I. Maybe thats the issue; Zorn thinks the fade is the option pass which is why he keeps calling it. He’s only giving us what we want to see people!

by Boo. on Sep 22, 2009 12:02 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Zorn knows his job is on the line, right?

when is he going to get to desperation mode and go, ‘ok, JC, just throw it man. try to get big yards to the young’uns’

by smutsboy1 on Sep 22, 2009 12:09 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Who is it?

As Cj said, maybe Campbell isn’t looking for the young guys, maybe their route running isn’t up to par, or maybe Zorn just isn’t calling enough plays for them. Whatever the case, they’re on the field but aren’t producing or aren’t given the chance to produce. Something from someone needs to change and change quickly if we want to score more than just FGs and not have our 2nd round draft picks already being called busts.

by bigrm18 on Sep 22, 2009 11:53 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

what I see

is Campbell starting his progressions by looking at the sideline route. It’s obvious that those are the long balls they want to throw. I don’t see any attempt to throw the deep middle passes. This is obviously Zorn, because if JC simply wasn’t doing it on his own, I would think Zorn would say something to him.

by CJHutch on Sep 22, 2009 12:12 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

They may be on the field Kevin

But being at the game, I’m sure you saw (as did I) that they are rarely the 1st option for JC. Most of the time they are just decoys. Moss is still Campbell’s # 1 priority and target, and everyone in the stadium (including the visiting team) knows it. We need to try harder to get these other guys involved.

Yes, It's time

Paging Jim Zorn, ZORN, Jim Zorn
Your play calling can be read from miles away, time to become inovative which is not gagets and trust the young players, QB and RB to do their job or let them fail and get rid of them….

we did

didn’t you see that last run play? On 4th down? We were spread out all over the place.

by CJHutch on Sep 22, 2009 1:01 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

there were at least 3 times Sunday where Moss had single coverage on the outside

and JC went elsewhere.

Not sure who’s fault that is, but I was disappointed. Sitting in the upper deck I realized Santana is most certainly not double teamed every play.

by smutsboy1 on Sep 22, 2009 12:08 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Not every play

but there’s always seems to be a safety lingering in his vicinity. I’m really amazed that we haven’t seen more out of our young bucks. They are way too talented to be this underutilized.

by VA_Skin on Sep 22, 2009 12:27 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I feel like Zorn strongly urges JC not to look their way

how else to explain the absence of any fade routes?

by smutsboy1 on Sep 22, 2009 12:54 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

either way my pitchfork hasn't been pulled out yet, but.....

All these young guys are on the field, they’re just not making plays. Week 3 = Breakout?

This statement is NOT TRUE for yoder.

by TheOverLordMarshl on Sep 22, 2009 12:39 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Ha!, yer right

he established himself as a premier, grade ‘A’, backup tight end a LONG time ago.

by CJHutch on Sep 22, 2009 1:04 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Malcolm is holding his own out there

He still needs to improve, but I have a lot of confidence that he’ll do that. But this stat:

Todd Yoder – 0 plays (thru 2 games)

is exactly why I said we should cut Yoder. Yes, he can block and play special teams. But is he really that good at any of those things? Why should we carry 3 TEs?

I think

Yoder is one of those utility players that every team needs. I remember the same things being said of Donnie Warren when Clint Didier was our stud tight end. Yoder blocks a LOT better than Cooley (and Davis), and he can catch the ball if in the end zone. He’s just not gonna burn anyone with his superior athleticism. I don’t mind having Yoder. Plus, without Colt around, Yoder gives Cooley someone to hang out with.

by CJHutch on Sep 22, 2009 2:10 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

not really

that means that Anthony Montgomery, Kevin Barnes, Ed Williams, etc, etc, are wasted spots. Yoder doesn’t need to be an offensive focal point, but he will contribute eventually.

by CJHutch on Sep 22, 2009 2:26 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I understand your sentiment

but I disagree. I think Yoder is a necessity until Cooley and/or Davis learns how to block. Yoder will come in handy when Heyer needs help or (please lightning don’t strike me) Samuels goes down.

I think you just have an aversion to bald white guys.

by CJHutch on Sep 22, 2009 3:37 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I do dislike my own people

(white, not bald)

but if Yoder’s not playing, then he’s not needed to help out Davis & Cooley

by smutsboy1 on Sep 22, 2009 3:48 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

boy

you REALLY don’t want Yoder around, do you?

Like I said, he is important to Cooley, and integral to Cooley’s pregame preparation. This shows how hard he pushes CC before games.

And if that doesn’t do it for you, you have to respect his crossover appeal.

I don't think

You’d say that about Rinehart, who is probably going to be our starting guard come next week. He wasn’t getting on the field, but more importantly he wasn’t even activated in either of the games.

by bigrm18 on Sep 22, 2009 2:37 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Well

The same principle can pretty much be applied here though. You never know what’s going to happen, but better yet, Yoder is able to do certain things better than Davis and some things better than even Cooley. And it’s not like Davis has done a whole lot as of yet either so just because Yoder hasn’t contributed yet doesn’t mean that he won’t be utilized later in the season.

didn't you hear?

JC17 and CC are bosom buddies, i think Colt was just the chick on the side

I don't think anyone's

closer to Cooley than WIT-DAWG
