Brian Mitchell get's it right on the Boo's - humbles Robert Henson's emotional rebuttal to the fans:
"Listen to me, these fans pay a lot of money," Mitchell concluded. "These fans have been given a lot of promises. You've been told by Jim Zorn and whoever else about we're gonna be ready to play offensively. They weren't booing everybody. They were booing the offense today. Believe me. And when you're booing the offense, the offense needs to step up and do their job, and the person that runs the offense is Jim Zorn. He's the head coach and also he calls the play. He needs to get his offense up to par with the defense. The fans have a right to do that."

I don't agree with BMitch a lot, but this is very on point

Especially this:

You’ve been told by Jim Zorn and whoever else about we’re gonna be ready to play offensively. They weren’t booing everybody. They were booing the offense today. Believe me. And when you’re booing the offense, the offense needs to step up and do their job… He needs to get his offense up to par with the defense…

Fans have a right to boo sometimes, and yesterday we had that right.

This is the third offensive head coach we’ve had in a row, and none of them have consistently put a decent offense on the field.

We haven’t scored 30 points in a game since 2007.

I was

EXTREMELY disappointed in Henson’s disrespectful comments. I don’t boo when I go to games, but I do understand the sentiment. But taking shots at fans is no way to start out your career.

by CJHutch on Sep 21, 2009 12:20 PM EDT reply actions

I didn't know

That fans were throwing things at the players.

I was really upset about being booed and things being thrown at us and I said some things that were out of line.

If this is true I’d be pretty upset at the fans as well. Throwing things at your own players? Moreover, throwing things at them after a win? That’s taking it too far and taking it down to the level of Philly fans. However, as BMitch said, the fans were booing the offense so he had nothing to do with the boos. I can’t speak for everyone, but if I were booing at Fedex it would be because I expect better from my team and I am disappointed in their performance. I don’t boo because I think my team sucks or because I suddenly hate the players.

Henson has to realize that we as fans expect excellence from our team, so was there really a reason to cheer when we couldn’t score a TD against the Rams?

by bigrm18 on Sep 21, 2009 12:47 PM EDT up reply actions

I agree

that things shouldn’t be thrown. But this statement by Henson has been called into question, and I wonder myself if it wasn’t Henson thinking up something to justify his words.

We're on good terms with Henson and his agent after our last piece...

I’ll see if I can get a follow-up with him about everything…maybe even get some facts on what the F is going on w/ the O.

We’re on good terms with Henson

Not after he finds out YOU were the one who threw that $9 hot dog at him.

hee hee hee.

by CJHutch on Sep 21, 2009 1:19 PM EDT up reply actions

I boo'd at half-time...

One of those things being hammered. I definitely would never have thought to start it…but it seemed appropriate. After all, we were losing at home to the Rams.

Booing at the end of the game when we won wasn’t right, however. The players need to know their fan-base is behind them. They’ll get ripped this week by the coaches, don’t need to hear it from us. They certainly have the right. Either way, tensions have to be high behind closed doors…who’s going to be the first player to pop against their coach?

i vote Cooley

he has been eerily vocal about problems he’s had with people so far this season.

I'm to young to Die Danny...don't make me do it tomorrow....

Cooley was pretty pissed about the boos this game. He sounded really frustrated at the fans in his post game quotes.

Case in point that the fan reaction is starting to cross a line

Cooley has been in the league for a bit, now. If this was something that was just part of the game, you wouldn’t hear a single comment on it from any of the players. We’ve created a monster people. I’d say get out the torches and pitchforks but I can see that the angry mob is already marching.

Or...

Case in point that the organization is reaching critical mass in terms of jerking the fans around.

Every single money grubbing instance of Snyderism is coming to term and the peasants are restless. From attempting to manage the football side of things to wringing his constituency dry, Lord Snyder may have a major case of karma on his hands soon.

CP.....thats a bold prediction there....

How about Rock Cartright going all postal with words, not bullets of course and he throws everyone under the bus, all the while laughing maniacally and reaching to the sky with both hands….

We all know Portis speaks his mind

Without hesitancy, so If Zorn calls out Portis (for some reason) he will gladly tell Zorn exactly what he thinks, and it probably won’t be an “I love you” type of message.

by bigrm18 on Sep 21, 2009 12:50 PM EDT up reply actions

I REALLY

hate to say this, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see it from Haynesworth. All the reporters are saying that he is refusing to speak to anyone. I’m wondering if something is building with him. There’s no doubt this is a completely different situation than he’s used to. Tennessee is a portrait of stability, and I don’t think he likes all the attention he gets here from the media, not to mention the naysaying from fans.

Again, I hope I’m wrong, cuz I really love Big Al’s play.

by CJHutch on Sep 21, 2009 1:11 PM EDT up reply actions

I definately think you are wrong. I think Al is just a low key guy that keeps to himself, he does his job and moves on with the day. Its not like I saw a lot of comments from him in Tennessee. He’s been on a 5-11, 4-12, and 8-8 team before and never really did much. And don’t forget he’s been through VY “suicide” and his team not letting his starting QB even work out with the team.

by Parks Smith on Sep 21, 2009 3:10 PM EDT up reply actions

I hope I'm wrong

which, while always a possibility, is a seldom occurrence.

by CJHutch on Sep 21, 2009 4:23 PM EDT up reply actions

I just kind of see Big Al as having tunnel vision, like someone that doesn’t even know the score but wants to go out and dominate on every play he’s in. He got an awesome ovation yesterday and I didn’t quite realize how big he was until I saw him in person.

What was up with the secondary coming out all at one time? Cool or lame? I know one thing it wasn’t as lame as the moron in Philly running out with a Jason mask.

by Parks Smith on Sep 21, 2009 4:26 PM EDT up reply actions

you want to hear the booing stop?

tell your teammates to get their craniums outta their collective anal canals and execute. It’s pretty simple, less fumbling, more catching, fewer penalties and more scoring= happy fan base. No one was booing the defense from what I understand.

I used to be disgusted, now I try to be amused....

by piratedan7 on Sep 21, 2009 12:55 PM EDT reply actions

and one other thing

all you have to do is ask Mr. Henson, if would have glady paid the price of tickets, parking and refreshments for that performance, and if he can put on a straight face and tell you yes, then the guy needs to run for public office.

I used to be disgusted, now I try to be amused....

The link doesn't work

But I still think the booing was unnecessary and IMO alot of those people weren’t actually booing what Mitchell was talking about. But they were booing that we were kneeling the ball to end the game. People around me wanted were booing and yelling to go for the TD which would have been the worst playcalling we would have seen from Zorn if he actually did run it instead of taking a knee.

whats all the fuss?

the owner does not care or he would hire a competent front office GM staff- like every top tier team employs

the management he did hire (VC) doesn’t care or he would not fail to address the starting point for the offense- the offensive line- for five plus years.

the coach might be the problem and the qb can be improved but none of it matters because the offensive line is not up to snuff and has no depth.

they have way too much invested in people trying to catch the ball and not enough on people protecting the guy throwing the ball or opening up the holes to run.

the good news out of yesterday is that the shotgun consistently offered JC at least 2 seconds to throw the ball…and he stepped into the pocket to avoid the rush several times.

zorn just has to get over that bias against it because it is the only shot this offense has to produce. dallas ran the draw effectively using the shotgun last night.

I think the ticket office fiasco a month ago has shown that the organization’s competency issues are endemic.

Jason’s looking better and the pass blocking looked very good. He’s going to have to start using Jason more. I think Jason’s up to the task also, we just need to get him some plays.

by snowburnt on Sep 21, 2009 3:09 PM EDT up reply actions

when they start keying off of the pass, it should open things up for portis also.

by snowburnt on Sep 21, 2009 3:13 PM EDT up reply actions

if we lose next week in Detroit, I dont’ think Zorn will be able to ride back on the plane. He’ll have to fly back commercial.

Not his fault. I don’t blame him for this. I blame Snyder and Vinny for hiring someone who wasn’t ready.

by killianskid34 on Sep 21, 2009 3:46 PM EDT reply actions

jim zorn is more ready to coach than vinny and dan are to run a quality football organization.

exactly who do you think will win in the nfl with no offensive line? they should just start ethan albright at center and long snap every play…jason can throw to portis to get him running near the line of scrimmage- or short snap it directly

by les boulez bomber on Sep 21, 2009 3:49 PM EDT up reply actions

zorn is set up to fail…why do you think a good coach will not come here unless they can take over the entire football operations? (which does not work either)

by les boulez bomber on Sep 21, 2009 3:51 PM EDT reply actions

I don't like booing

I can’t remember ever booing anyone (it’s probably happened once or twice though) mostly because I can’t see how it could ever really be helpful. I seriously doubt anyone (except the other teams) are happy with the production coming out of the offense and I’m sure they’re doing everything they can to fix the problem. I just wonder when or if that will happen.

by ZakInOmaha on Sep 22, 2009 2:22 PM EDT reply actions

I boo

everytime my mailman brings me nothing but bills. I’d throw a tomato at him, but I can’t afford one.

by CJHutch on Sep 22, 2009 2:29 PM EDT up reply actions

Fans need to vent sometimes

If we booed a lot (a la Philly) I think that’s bad.

But being frustrated at that offensive performance was somewhat warranted.

by smutsboy1 on Sep 22, 2009 3:17 PM EDT up reply actions

It was warranted

I just don’t do it myself much. I don’t blame anyone for venting or feeling frustrated. besides if the players REALLY don’t like it they can go get a different job – just be aware it won’t pay anything like the NFL.

I’ll glad get booed everytime I step on the field for the league minimum. It’s not like I’ve never been yelled at before by a boss.
