As much as I hate to see Thomas go, could it be a blessing in disguise

Thomas is a great lineman, but if Rinehart is ready (if not he shouldn’t be on the team) then this incident may make the team stronger for the future. Rinehart and Heyer can be a solid right side of the line for several years, allowing the Redskins to draft and groom others for the future.

That's exactly

What I was thinking when I heard he would be out for the rest of the year. Nothing against Thomas, but he’s getting up there in age (he’s probably already up there actually) and this line HAS to get younger and more talented. Hopefully this can be Rinehart’s year to get his feet wet and “learn on the job” so to speak. Then maybe he’ll become a permanent starter next year.

me too

I am not the least bit upset about this. Rinehart will fill in fine, and if he doesn’t, Montgomery will. I think Thomas has been using his veteran card to get my the past few season. He’s no longer the dominant pulling guard we got from the Jets.

that's wishful thinking

not trying to be a jerk, but just saying.

Reinhart is in his 2nd year and he’s not even active on game day.

Rinehart will fill in fine, and if he doesn’t, Montgomery will.

true but

it still hurts the overall OL depth. I don’t think injuries are ever good news. And signing another older guy is a desperation move.

I know

but you have to think about why he’s not active. I’m pretty sure they leave Montgomery available because he can step in at two different positions in a pinch.
And I don’t think you’re “trying to be a jerk.” I think you ARE a jerk.

Just kidding. Actually, I agree, it is wishful thinking. Or at least an uninformed assumption. But it’s all I got right now while trying to remain positive. But I stand by me claim that Thomas isn’t exactly striking fear in defensive linemen these days. It’s time for someone else to step up, and it’s time to see if Rinehart belongs on this team.

Personally

I think Thomas was still our 2nd best olineman which shows the sad state of affairs.

I understand the thought

but respectfully disagree. Personally, I don’t feel like Heyer is the *ONLY reason they weren’t running to the right. If nothing else, Rinehart is strong as hell. Hopefully he can open some holes over there to balance out our running attack.

my friend told me that's a common steroids injury

not trying to start rumors, but that’s what he claims.

well to take a different approach

TY RT for your valuable years of service. When healthy, you helped anchor our line and helped display Portis to best effect and helped us to the playoffs despite noodle arm Brunell. You’ve earned your paycheck, now go heal up.

I used to be disgusted, now I try to be amused....

WaTimes writer...

just tweeted that Pete Kendall texted him he has not been contacted by the Redskins, but is interested.

agreed

it’s time to cut the cord on the washed up veteran pipeline

by CJHutch on Sep 21, 2009 2:43 PM EDT up reply actions

I don't mind

Bringing in Kendall for depth purposes, but I most certainly want Rinehart to earn and keep the starter spot. We have to learn to get younger in all areas of our team.
