How Long Does It Take To Learn How To Get The Most Out Of Jason Campbell?

As evidenced by the end of game 1, Jason Campbell with a split second more time is truly awesome. The coaches need to leave him in shotgun and trade for a better offensive line. All the teams will play the run and make the pass beat them. We tend to only throw on predictable downs. Definitely not First Down unless way behind. Let's be less predictable. Give Jason 30 throws a game at least. And let's win.

I could go for this

and trade for a better offensive line.

Do you think the Giants, or maybe New would go for it? I’d be willing to throw in Mike Williams as well. Ladell Betts and/or ARE as well. Let’s make it happen.

I'm not sure the Giants would trade their line to a division rival.

But maybe we could overpay for the Vikings line… ? Or hope for an uncapped year and sign a decent O-line from free agency.

The fallacy is...

The players you mention are really not trade able commodities. OK role guys (and Williams is still a project), but no one is going to give us someone better than say Stephon Heyer or Corey Raybach, just to use as examples, for say ARE.

Now, if we are sold that Fred Davis is a good pass catching option and Yoder can block and catch, we should trade Chris Cooley for some real O-line talent. (But I didn’t say that because that would be blasphemy around DC. LOL) I’m just sayin’ you’ve got to be willing to give something good up to get something worthwhile in return and its possible that we’re really, really strong at TE, if Fred gets the chance to prove it and he is the real deal.

Also, SSF...

bq.“As evidenced by the end of game 1…”bq.

The end of game 1 only proved that anyone can move the ball against a prevent defense. Being in the shotgun helped the O-line by simplifying their blocking scheme and it did give JC more time, but the results would not have been as dramatic had NY been in their normal D in my opinion. Trying not to be a downer and definitely not a whiner, but the reality (until they prove me differently on the field) is that we are closer to SI’s strength rating (#26 in the league!!) than the better than average team I expected us to be coming into NY.

but it's not

just the Giants game we’re talking about. Campbell has shown throughout his career that he is better in the shotgun.

Not just JC:

Football Outsiders search for shotgun – http://tinyurl.com/n3xvk2. The shotgun is not anything new. Billy Kilmer did well with the shotgun in San Francisco before he had a serious auto accident. (Yes, he was at one time an excellent runner, i.e., 1962 San Francisco 49ers 478 yards; 1961 San Francisco 49ers 509 yards as well as UCLA. NFL teams eventually defensed the shotgun back then).

The Patriots have been very successful running the shotgun with both Brady and Cassel..

Too Predictable...

I know its already been said but here it is again…Zorn is so freaking predictable. Our run plays are horrible, its like the guys aren’t even trying to gain yardage. Then we aren’t using Ladell at all…why? He’s good and proved himself when Clinton went down a few seasons ago. I think he could easily be a starter for another team. We have such a talented offense but only put up 9 points? This is sooo sad. So what do you think will happen if we lose to the Lions? Zorn fired perhaps? Lets hope so.
