Everyone's Talking About the Offense...

But how do you all feel about the defensive game plan? I know we did well against the run and only gave up 1TD and 3 FGs but is that enough? Is trying to stop the big play and stop the run enough to help our anemic offense? Eli did virtually whatever he wanted in the passing game, imagine if he had Plaxico Burress without the gunshot wound. I know the CBs didn't look anywhere near as good as we all expected them to, but I would have liked to have seen more man-to-man coverage from our defense, especially since that's our corners' expertise.

I want a defense that not only wants to stop the run and big plays, I want a defense that wants to stop the offensive opponents from gaining 1 yard the entire game. I want a defense that blitzes like the Ravens and Steelers and scares the crap out of offenses in the league.

Instead of our defense saying "well, at least we only gave up a FG" I want them to say "we shouldn't have given up those 25 yards, we have to limit them to 10 yards next time." I feel we are being too passive on defense and lack the aggressiveness that championship defenses have. Yes, the offense is a whole lot more passive than the defense and needs serious help, but I feel we can still improve on defense as well.

How do you all feel about the defense? More importantly, how do you all think Snyder feels about the defense?

I'm not trying to imply that Blache should be fired, but we all saw what Snyder invested into this defense. If it isn't getting the turnovers and pressure that Snyder wants he will make a change, and the change isn't likely to start with the players.

Poll
Do you think the defense is good enough to win games for the offense?
Maybe a few games, but not like the Ravens or Steelers

No, this defense is too patsy for me

the last one. I think the PLAYERS are good enough, I just think they need to be put in a better position. I hate saying that, because I really like Blache. But he seems to have lost his aggressiveness. You know, the aggressiveness he had IN CHICAGO? I don’t know if it’s his old age, or what, but he doesn’t seem to want to try anything creative. He said himself our defense is about lining up and stopping the other team, not about gimmicks and misdirection. But the best defenses do both. I wanna see us line up 5 LB’s on one play, then 5 linemen on the next. And EVERYONE run to the ball. ATTACK!! Full speed ahead, take no prisoners, I’m coming to get you no matter WHERE YOU HIDE!!!! In other words, don’t just keep ’em guessing, KEEP ’em SCARED SHITLESS!!

Exactly

I think this is where Blache’s old school mentality is hurting the team. It seems that he isn’t willing to use any trickery or exotic blitzing in order to stop offenses. It’s almost as if he just tells our defense to go out on the field and stop their offense, without any true game planning or defensive schemes. Sometimes this philosophy works, but a lot of times it doesn’t. Nowadays, defenses are evolving almost as much as offenses, Blache needs to step into the 21st century and maximize our defensive player’s capabilities.

Sorry

IS it ANNOYING?
No, I just get FIRED UP when the season starts. My wife won’t let me scream and headbutt her when the kids are around, so BOLD WORDS are my outlet.

Zorn

Zorn just stated that the CBs definitely played too far back, and that they will be playing much closer to the WRs this week….sounds like both the O and D are works in progress and learning as we go.

Thank god, we never press or jam anyone, and we should be physical with Donnie Avery this week.

by god

I think they’ve got it.

Do you think they’re reading this blog? If so, do you think they will use all the young receivers like we’ve all been begging? And, do you think they’ll run Marcus Mason like Va_Skin wants us to do?

That's a blessing to my ear

But if Zorn felt the CBs were playing too far off, why didn’t we have them play more man to man during the game, or at least after halftime?

do you think

he even knows what defense we’re running? I’m not sure he has much of a grasp on that side of the ball.

by CJHutch on Sep 16, 2009 11:45 AM EDT up reply actions

He may not

But it doesn’t take a genius to see that the Giants’ WRs were practically open on every play. So if their WRs were open and had a lot of space around them, maybe it would make sense for us to… ummm… take away that space by playing closer?

Besides, Zorn himself said that the CBs were playing too far off so why didn’t he go to Blache during the game and say something? Maybe Zorn is scared of Blache?

Head Coach

The problem with the Heach Coach being the Offensive coordinator
He can’t be the Head Coach, yes some have did it and others still do it today but I would guess they are more seasoned.

for some reason

it is very easy for me to picture Zorn averting his eyes when he passes Blache in the hallways. He probably sends an assistant to ask Blache if the defensive gameplan is ready because he doesn’t wanna ask himself. Then Blache says “it’ll be ready on Sunday, don’t ask me again.”

Other

The Washington Redskins does not need a defense to win games for the offense.
The Defense is fine, and can be tweaked to get better and will provide the team an opportunity to win, just like last year.
The offense needs to score points

Exactly
The Defense is fine, and can be tweaked to get better

That’s essentially what I was saying is that the defense is good, but it can be better. I wasn’t trying to infer that the defense was a problem for the team or anything like that. We all know that the offense is the team’s weakness.

We may not need a defense to win games but we need a defense that is going to get opposing offenses off the field. The more chances our offense has to score, the more likely it is going to happen. However, our defense did not do well in getting the Giants off the field, which led to less opportunities for our offense to score. The defense, but more importantly the offense, is going to have to improve if we want to take the next step from being just an 8-8 team.

defense

well i think the defense is pretty good i think they would be a whole lot better if OUR offense could stay on the field A LITTLE LONGER because our defense stays on the field ALL the time it seems like and all its doing is wearing them down and thats why they are not doing as well
