Most of the questions were pretty standard, Campbell, Haynesworth, etc. But the question 'Was Antoine Randle-El worth 31 million dollars over seven years?' stumped me a bit. What is your opinion?

Is he worth $4.4M per year?

Probably not, but he’s not horribly overpaid. Especially if we manage to get him to his natural position in the slot.

It shows a big difference in team strategy what roles they pay and what roles they just try to fill on the cheap. Steelers almost always fill Return spots on the cheap, probably why we are frequently weak there.

Randle-El is signed through 2015

Going to make $5mil next year, 3.8 mil in 2011, 4.2 in 2012…then slight approx $4 the rest of the way out. Not TOO bad.

It’s quite comical that Durant Brooks is costing us $87K against the cap this year.

’Was Antoine Randle-El worth 31 million dollars over seven years?

You guys actually have to think about that?

Love how badly the Steelers guy butchered his name, too.

well...

who else was there to take his spot if they didn’t overpay for him. Todd Pinkston?

by Roastbeef on Aug 21, 2009 3:06 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

That smells like a shot at the Eagles...

And I’ll agree… Pinkston is a black mark on our organization and the city of Philadelphia as a whole. But just for fun, let’s compare Pinkston and Randle El…

On a per year basis…

Pinkston (5 NFL seasons)

36.8 catches, 563 yards, 2.8 TD

Antwaan Randle El (7 NFL seasons)

42 catches, 526 yards, 2.1 TD

OUCH!

Pinkston

Alligator arms (pussy moves) – 312
Randle-El – 0

Imagine Pinky’s numbers if he wasn’t afraid to get hit?

Haha...

Hey, I’ve already made it clear that Pinkston has left a black mark on our fine city which we can never erase – Was just pointing out that this abomination of a football player has similar stats to Randle El.

actually

I think Pinkston was a better receiver for you than FredEx. That guy was the epitome of a dud. Of course, it was exasperated by his wind-up jaw.

I happen to agree...

Pinkston was scared. Period. But… Opposing defenses at least had to respect his speed and his ability to occasionally get open deep. At the very least, he was effective stretching the field… and then I run out of positive things to say.

But FredEx did nothing for us. Nothing.

And both were high picks… Pinks was a 2, Freddy was a 1. Ouch.

FredEx? At first I thought you were talking about Fred Barnett…I loved that guy for some reason. I kept drafting him on my fantasy squad in the early days and he was money when he played…but got hurt too often. The eagles were not that good back then so it was okay for me to like him.

The funny thing is

With only 593 rec. yds., 254 PR yds., & 4TDs, ARE still put up better 2008 numbers than these other Eaglet abominations:

K. Curtis – 390 yds., 2 TDs
R. Brown – 252 yds., 1TD
H. Baskett – 440 yds., 3 TDs
J. Avant – 377 yds., 2 TDs

RAK EM UP!

you are missing 6 return tds and 4 td passes. i think he throw one to lock up the super bowl once. with the salary cap at 129M, using the rule of 51 gives us 2.5M per player. 3.5-5M per year for the #2 wr and punt returner is okay…he has not been great, but clearly within reason, unlike some of our other signings/trades.

b/c the last few years of Redskin contracts are always voidable or team options, plus they are back loaded. not to mention that they always restructure for lower salarys w/ bonus and a guaranteed year or two. so we have no idea what the contract is actually worth.

by liger99 on Aug 21, 2009 3:33 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

ummm I would say

imho based on the production received for said contract, no

I used to be disgusted, now I try to be amused....

it basically

depends on the organization. The Steelers and Redskins operate on totally different wavelengths. While I really like the way Pittsburgh runs their franchise, they aren’t overly loyal to their veteran players year in and year out. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that, but some may. Fan favorites who are still productive end up elsewhere because of this way of doing business.

by CJHutch on Aug 21, 2009 5:49 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

big deal

they always fill the holes left open by the veteran players.

it’s not about being loyal to your veterans, it’s about winning.

by Boney on Aug 23, 2009 4:08 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

few teams are loyal to the veterans

it’s the way roster mgmt ends up working in the NFL

by smutsboy1 on Aug 23, 2009 12:00 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

not true

the Redskins are overly loyal to veteran. Maybe not in the traditional sense, but they do keep them around way too long. It’s mainly because they redo contracts every year, making it hard to cut these guys. That’s why Jansen was just cut this year, and he STILL hurts our cap. But we will be paying for guys like Portis, Samuels, R. Thomas, Griffin, etc, etc, etc, long after they’re gone.

by CJHutch on Aug 23, 2009 12:26 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

good point.

few teams are loyal out of loyalty.

the Redskins are loyal out of cap shennanigans.
